Elizabeth Olsen, Glenn Close, And Tom Felton Team Up For Ghostly ‘Therese Raquin’!

OlsenRaquin20812 Elizabeth Olsen, Glenn Close, And Tom Felton Team Up For Ghostly Therese Raquin!

Elizabeth Olsen, who was amazing in Martha Marcy May Marlene, seems to have a taste for darker material than her more famous twin siblings. At first I assumed that the sole deciding factor for her role in MMMM was the quality of the piece. But it may have been the tone as well. After all, she can pretty much write her own ticket now and her dance card is still full of darker stuff like Silent House and Red Lights.

Now we can add Therese Raquin to her resume of thrillers. She’ll be costarring with Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs, Fatal Attraction) and Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter).

Per Deadline, “Tom Felton is in negotiations to star opposite Elizabeth Olsen and Glenn Close in Therese Raquin. Written and set to be helmed by acclaimed theater director Charlie Stratton, the film’s being produced by William Horberg and Mickey Liddell. Close is attached for the role of Madame Raquin, and Olsen for Therese, who, with her lover Laurent, murder her husband (Felton), a sick boy that Madame Raquin forced Therese to marry. After Therese later marries her true love, the couple is haunted by the ghost of the dead husband and it poisons their love into all-consuming hatred.

That actually sounds like a cool, albeit mean-spirited, idea for a ghost story. I hope it sticks the landing. READ MORE

‘Red Lights’ Character Posters Are Red (And Orange-ish)!

RedlightsLand420312 Red Lights Character Posters Are Red (And Orange ish)!

Rodrigo Cortes’ Red Lights debuted at Sundance to mixed word of mouth (Mr. Disgusting’s review here). The Buried director’s psychological thriller stars Sigourney Weaver, Robert De Niro, Cillian Murphy and Elizabeth Olsen.

Acquired by Millenium Entertainment for theatrical distro, the pic begins “when a psychologist’s investigation into paranormal activity focuses on whether or not a world-renowned psychic is actually a fraud, her results are far from expected.

And now some character one-sheets are beginning to emerge. I kind of like these, they’re slightly derivative but look cool. And I’m still eager to see the film, hopefully I like it more than some of the other people I’ve spoken to.

[Sundance 12] Interview: Red Lights Director Rodrigo Cortes

Rodrigo Cortes’ film Red Lights (review) divided audiences at Sundance. Some viewers really dug it. Cortes could tell I was not a fan, even though my questions were objective and diplomatic. It was cool though, he welcomed my discussion anyway.

Red Lights is named for the giveaway clues that something doesn’t belong. Cillian Murphy and Sigourney Weaver play scientific debunkers of paranormal hoaxes, faced with their match (Robert DeNiro), who either can circumvent all their countermeasures, or he really has psychic powers.

In his introduction to the premiere screening, Cortes told the audience not to expect anything. Now that you may have heard, we present my discussion with Cortes from the Sundance Film Festival. READ MORE

Open Road Films and Liddell Entertainment have released yet another ho-hum look at Silent House (review), their horror thriller starring talented newcomer Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene) and co-directed by filmmaking duo Chris Kentis and Laura Lau (Open Water). The image displays yet another look at Olsen (I know it’s hard to show anything else, considering most of the movie consists of Olsen walking around a house), only it looks like a low resolution screengrab. Come on guys! Thankfully, the trailer is beyond badass. I seriously cannot wait until March 9. How many of you guys plan on checking it out? Have you seen the original?

Real-Time, Real Fear Promised In Official ‘Silent House’ Trailer!

Real Time, Real Fear Promised In Official Silent House Trailer!

I love a film that keeps all of their cards close to their chest and then explodes leading up to release. Thus far, we’ve seen an clip that revealed nothing, along with a handful of stills featuring Martha Marcy May Marlene star Elizabeth Olsen. Now, Open Road is exploding out of the gate with an excellent trailer for Silent House, their remake of the Spanish La Casa Muda that was directed by Open Water‘s Chris Kentis and Laura Lau. Bloody Disgusting saw the film at its Sundance world premiere last January; Ryan Daley quite liked it.

In theaters March 9, the trailer promises real time fear, a kind of new spin on the genre (even though [REC] already did it). “Moment by moment, second by second, the silence will kill you…” states the trailer.

[Interview] Elizabeth Olsen, Sarah Paulson, John Hawkes and Sean Durkin On ‘Martha Marcy May Marlene’!

MMMMLand101911 [Interview] Elizabeth Olsen, Sarah Paulson, John Hawkes and Sean Durkin On Martha Marcy May Marlene!

Martha Marcy May Marlene opens this Friday, October 21st and, frankly, it is a magnificent film (my review here). While it may not overtly belong in the horror genre, it’s so unsettling and tense it deserves a look from anyone who likes to be on the edge of their seat.

It’s not a film for everyone, though I would certainly recommend it to many people. It’s also not a horror film, but I would certainly recommend it to many horror fans (especially if you respond to paranoia, suspense or creeping dread). First time writer/director Sean Durkin has crafted a film that will likely make you grapple with your own feelings of uncertainty and the fear of where you do and don’t belong (if anywhere).

Late last week I had the chance, along with several other journalists, to speak with director Sean Durkin and stars Elizabeth Olsen, Sarah Paulson and John Hawkes about the film.

Robert De Niro, BluBlockers and ‘Red Lights’!

Way behind on my movie watching, I just recently caught Rodrigo Cortes’ Buried On Demand (I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love On Demand) and was blown away. This guy is for realz….

Next up for Cortes is Red Lights, and having his name attached isn’t enough excitement for you, how about the casting of Sigourney Weaver, Robert De Niro, and Cillian Murphy?

Lights, now in post-production, turns on a psychologist, played by Weaver, and her assistant whose study of paranormal activity leads them to investigate a world-renowned psychic (De Niro). Below you’ll find your first look at a badass (and blind?) De Niro.
