Ceren Lee, Erica Gimpel (pictured above in “True Blood”) and Steve Brand (Wrong Turn 2: Dead End) are starring in “Enormous,” a live-action web series adaptation of the Image Comics comic book series being made by Machinima, reports Heat Vision.
BenDavid Grabinski (who helmed the Brandon Routh-Mary Elizabeth Winstead short “Cost of Living”) is directing the pilot, which goes into production Friday in Los Angeles, with Garret Coffey, Billy Miller and Charles Melton also in the cast.
“The story certainly has large-scale ambition. Created by Tim Daniel and artist Mehdi Cheggour, the story is set in a world where humanity is under attack from gigantic monsters.”
Says the site, Lee will play the lead, a women who works for the United Nation’s Search and Rescue division looking for abandoned children. Gimpel’s character protects Lee’s rescuer. Brand is the story’s antagonist, a soldier of fortune making a living in this post-apocalyptic world.
Grabinski wrote the script with Andre Ovredal, the Norwegian filmmaker behind Troll Hunter.
After scoring with live action web series based on the “Halo” and “Mortal Kombat” video game franchises, Machinima is turning to comicbooks for new programming. Variety reports that the online entertainment player, whose audience is made up mostly of young males age 18-35, has paired with producer Adrian Askarieh to produce a 10-minute pilot based on “Enormous,” a graphic novel that revolves around a cataclysmic ecological event that creates massive beasts that overrun human civilization and puts mankind at the bottom of the food chain.
Askarieh’s Prime Universe Productions will produce the pilot for Machinima before turning it into a full-fledged series that can play on various digital platforms the company appears on, including the new Xbox One.
BenDavid Grabinski, who helmed the short “Cost of Living” (more details here), will direct the pilot whose concept is a blend of Cloverfield and “The Walking Dead.” Grabinski penned the script with Andre Ovredal (Troll Hunter).
The project is in the midst of being cast, with a December shoot in L.A. being eyed. READ MORE
Daniel Cheggour’s “Enormous” takes place “in the midst of a planetary battle for food and fuel, a vast ecological cataclysm spawns “the enormous,” massive beasts unlike anything ever witnessed. Humankind struggles to stave off extinction.”
It was revealed back on October 9 that Producer Adrian Askarieh and Andre Ovredal, the Norwegian director of Trollhunter, are teaming up to tackle a transmedia adaptation of the monster apocalyptic comic published by Image.
Tim Daniel has been a busy man following the success of his hit, oversized monster book, Enormous. The series is set to return next fall as an ongoing series with a new publisher, plus the series has been slated for a film project headed-up by Trollhunter director Andre Orvedal.
