Review: ‘The Goon Volume 12: Them That Raised Us Lament’

Laugh-out-loud and with plenty of action, The Goon Volume 12: Them That Raised Us Lament makes for an entertaining read. While playing tribute to B-movies, writer/artist Eric Powell adopts a cartoony style that is well-worth your attention. By the time you finish reading, you’re definitely going to become a fan of “The Goon” series. READ MORE

Review: ‘Billy The Kid’s Old Timey Oddities And The Orm Of Loch Ness’ #3

If you’ve been following Billy The Kid’s Oldtime Oddities, by now you should know what to expect in issue #3. It’s a wacky adventure that lacks any gravity whatsoever, but has a unique and entertaining take on pop mythology and horror conventions. The art is solid, the story is fun, and that’s about it. What makes issue #3 unique is the presence of – or the attempt at – gravity and loss. Ultimately this attempt falls flat, and it highlights some of the weaknesses of the book. SPOILERS AHEAD. Review: ‘Billy The Kid’s Old Timey Oddities And The Orm Of Loch Ness’ #2

The latest issue of Billy The Kid’s Old Timey Oddities finds the gang as the encounter an unexpected resident of Loch Ness – Dracula. Yes, that Dracula. In keeping with the series, the content here is decidedly ludicrous and the issue has a pretty quick pace. There’s no subtext or commentary to speak of, and none of the characters are terribly fleshed out, but that’s alright. This is “Billy The Kid”, people! You’re here for action and excitement. And you’ll get at least one of those in this issue. READ MORE

Review: ‘Billy The Kid’s Old Timey Oddities And The Orm Of Loch Ness’ #1

Billy The Kid’s Old Timey Oddities continues with the first issue of “The Orm of Loch Ness”. It’s a new arc that sees Billy and company hot on the trail of their captured associate Callahan, who’s being taken to – you guessed it – Loch Ness. It’s a largely uneventful issue, but it manages to engage in some brief exposition, moves along at a brisk pace, and is enjoyable throughout. The end has a delightfully absurd twist that will ensure readers will be nothing if not curious to see where the story goes from here. READ MORE

Obama Announces Anti-Monster Weapon -MechaGodzilla!

Today President Barack Obama faced the entire world, and announced his newest budget-busting idea, the deficit feeding, prehistorically inspired behemoth – “MECHAGODZILLA”. The announcement hot off the heels of the announcement that the President would be putting together a crack-team of numerically inclined “professionals” to help think-tank new ideas on how to cut the National Debt. When asked if these Super Minions were also bionic the President chuckled and replied dryly “At their tender age, let’s face it, who isn’t?“, to which the room erupted into laughter. From Eric Powell: “We are really excited about the release of our new album “Beating Dead Horses” on Metropolis Records. This album really achieves that perfect mixture of the heavy rock and electronic elements that we are known for. The album start to finish is our strongest I think. We also have a music video coming out for the song “Burn”. It’s a story about my father who died this year of alcohol abuse. I end up killing him in the video.
