Did you miss our initial post on regarding the Deadite Of The Day contest? If not – don’t worry. We’re accepting submissions up until until the end of the day at [email protected] (head inside for the full list of rules)! Winners will be announced daily from March 25th – April 5th (weekends excluded). Submissions will be open the whole time, so if you see something you think you can top… TOP IT!

Today’s winner is Dennis Carter Jr.! He has an amazing, HUGE collection of Evil Dead memorabilia. Much of it official. I’ve included 17 images – but would you believe I had to pare that down? I think I got dozens more! In his own words, “My collection consists of actual movie props, replicas, toys, books, promo items, CD’s, photos, and collectables. Some of the highlights of my collection are:

1: The only surviving movie prop of Ash’s possessed hand from Evil Dead 2. There were two that were made for the stop motion sequences. One was destroyed years ago. This one is the only one that survived. 2: One of the Lost Pages of the necronomicon from Evil Dead 2 showing the Winged Deadite. This one was used during filming and has some of the fake blood used on the actors on it. 3: A production made but unused Winged Deadite head from the Winged Deadite in Evil Dead 2. It was made and painted by one of the people who worked on the film.”

Are you ready for April 5th? Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead hits theaters on that day but if for some reason you’re still itching for more content, we’ve got this behind the scenes featurette. It’s got a few quotes from Alvarez and Sam Raimi but nothing in the way of new footage. Be sure to stay tuned tomorrow for my exclusive interview with Fede Alvarez and Jane Levy!

Director Fede Alvarez dropped a bomb on WonderCon audiences during an Evil Dead panel this Sunday in the Anaheim convention center n California.

Back when the red band trailer had been released, We had pointed out some interesting imagery that suggested that maybe the new Evil Dead, in theaters April 5, was actually a sequel. Alvarez confirmed this to the WonderCon crowd, while also adding something major.

He told audiences that an Evil Dead 2 (followed by a planned Evil Dead 3), and the recently announced Army of Darkness 2, will eventually crossover for the ultimate cult horror movie Evil Dead 7, reports Movieweb. So, after two sequels to the current remake – the remake universe will collide with the old “Ash” universe in a film that will amount to be the 4th installment in both franchises.

At this time, Sam Raimi and his brother Ivan Raimi are working on the screenplay for Army of Darkness 2, which will continue the story of Ash as seen in the original The Evil Dead from 1981. While Fede Alvarez might have been joking, suggests the site, who was on hand for the panel, he seemed serious when he said he plans to join both his new franchise together with Sam Raimi’s old franchise.

In his words, “I wanted to capture the iconic elements of the film while focusing on the horror one would feel by being overcome by an entity outside of themselves. The image of a fearful eye, crying, with the iris/logo overtaking that was something I wanted to come through. The cabin was always secondary to me, as the design implies. The new Evil Dead film will be coming out next Friday and it seems like the entire horror fanbase is on pins and needles awaiting its release. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve seen such hype for a horror release since I began here at Bloody-Disgusting back in late 2009. From the look of it, it’s a film that not only respects the horror fanbase but is a film made for us. Still, having not seen the film, I can only wait with you and hope for the best.

Today’s winners are Luke Bramley, Gigi Saul Guerrero and Raynor Shima. Since they all worked on the same project, it only counts as one entry – but it’s a cool one. It’s a retelling of the original Evil Dead (with a visual nod to the remake) in 60 seconds. Per Bramley, “‘d like to submit our recreation of the original Evil Dead done in 60 seconds for the Deadite of the Day contest. Created by myself (Luke Bramley), Gigi Saul Guerrero, and Raynor Shima (with the help of our fantastic cast and crew), we submitted this to the Virgin Radio Fake Film Festival, and although we didn’t win 1st place, we came in the top 5 and received a lot of positive feedback from Evil Dead fans everywhere.”

With the Fede Alvarez-directed Evil Dead remake coming out next Friday, it’d be a crime to not report on composer Roque Baños‘ score for the film, which many are hailing as nothing short of brilliance. On April 9th, LaLaLand Records will be releasing the soundtrack as a digital download AND as a deluxe CD edition, the latter of which will feature 25 minutes of additional music not featured in the digital download. The CD version of the standard edition will be available on Amazon and all other major online retailers May 7th.

Today’s winner is Theodore Holmstead-Scott, who is only 15 years old. He runs The House Of Marrow blog and has made a cool short, The Woods Themselves, expressly for this contest. In his own words, “I first saw the Evil Dead films around this time last year and immediately fell in love with them. When I saw the contest post on your site I immediately set to work. I built the prop (an ancient victim of the ‘angry molesting trees’) over the last week and filmed it in the woods on the weekend – it was pretty exhausting, but absolutely worth it. ‘The Evil Dead’ is one of my most favorite films, and also one that inspired me to get into filmmaking.”

I really dig how Theodore’s short uses that low-roving camera angle, and that jump over the fallen tree near the end is what sealed the deal for me. That one moment captures the playful vibe of the original trilogy so well. Sadly, Theodore hails from Wellington, New Zealand. So if he wants to be eligible for the signed poster he needs to have someone in the US it can be mailed to. Though – again – we still have 8 more winners to announce who are also eligible. [SXSW '13] Corey Mitchell’s Day 3: ‘Cheap Thrills’ Provides Quality Discomfort

I was bummed close to midnight of the opening night of SXSW. I had just sat through the debacle that was the Evil Dead remake (I refuse to use Fede Alvarez’s pet phrase “re-birth”). Granted, I was fortunate enough to watch the masterful Bruce Campbell completely steal the show from his ED contemporary thespians during an extra long-running Q&A. After that was E.L. Katz’s Cheap Thrills, starring the adorable duo from Ti West’s The Innkeepers, Patrick Healy and Sara Paxton.

I figured I’d start this off with a bang and announce a winner with one of the most extensive collections of anything I’ve ever seen! His name is Sean Gooding (@GonzoSean on Twitter) and he also runs the site Deadites Online. In his own words, “Up until a few years ago I owned a very large Evil Dead Collection, these pictures were from the height of my collecting days, I still own the full Scale replica of Ash’s chainsaw from Evil Dead 2 and some boxed figures and Blu Rays.” He also included a sketch of Ash that he did that’s pretty badass too.

5 Favorite Moments From ‘Army Of Darkness’!!!

If you looked at my Evil Dead Month Rankings, you’ll notice that Army Of Darkness came in last. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t love it! I recently watched the film again (which still loses me at that damn windmill scene) and the stuff that works for me works just as well as it ever did. So in the spirit of Evil Dead Month, I figured I’d catalogue what worked for me (like I did in my 5 Favorite Moments From Evil Dead 2 piece).

As I said in the rankings, “While Army Of Darkness regains its footing towards the end with its massive battle, it never fully learns how to make the medieval setting engage Ash in an interesting way beyond its initial “fish out of water” conceit. Again, I’m not slamming the movie. I’m just saying that what starts out as an “A+” effort eventually ends up as more of a “B-”.”

I saw Evil Dead, the Fede Alvarez-directed remake of Sam Raimi’s 1981 classic, again last night and it confirmed my feelings about the first screening. Not a perfect movie (some rough spots in the beginning), but once it gets going it’s such a f*cking blast it’s unbelievable – which is why I’ve been calling it a “near perfect experience.” Anyway – here are 5 more pics to tide you over!
