Review: ‘Evil Ernie’ #2

The first issue served as a solid introduction to Ernie Evil and his back story, and he’s already out for blood in the second issue. #2 opens with a flashback scene from Ernie’s childhood where he suffered horrific physical abuse at the hands of his father. The flashback acts as the catalyst that sends Evil Ernie into a bloodthirsty rampage as he shreds through prison guards to get to his father. The issue offers a whole lot in the way of action, but does not deliver enough on the character front. READ MORE

Jesse Blaze Snyder and Jason Craig are heading full tilt into the revamp of Evil Ernie, making sure it’s as wacky and bloody as ever. The first issue offered a solid intro to the vile anti-hero (review here), and we’ve got little doubt that the creative team is about to dive into the bloodwork for this first arc. The series is written by Jesse Blaze Snider (“Muppets”, “Toy Story”) with some amazing artwork from Jason Craig (“ReAnimator”, “Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash”). We’ve been excited about the launch of this book for some time and we’re eager to get our filthy hands on the first issue.

The series is written by Jesse Blaze Snider (“Muppets”, “Toy Story”) with art from Jason Craig (“ReAnimator”, “Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash”).

Bloody-disgusting broke this news back in March, but now it’s official. Dynamite Entertainment has announced that “Evil Ernie” will indeed be returning with the creative team of Jesse Blaze Snider and Jason Craig. “Evil Ernie” evokes memories of Iron Maiden’s Eddie mascot with his big scary face and badass leather jacket. Ernie is the tale of a kid gone from good to bad, as he gains the power to take vengeance on those who wrong him.

Snider is a long time fan of the series and he seems excited to put a new spin on the character. When speaking with CBR he said “I think that everyone will be surprised by how much this book has to offer. Scares, laughs, philosophy, action, Heaven & Hell, violence, the Devil, murder, possession, revenge, Angels, sinners, executions, gratuitousness, everything else!” Dynamite acquired the rights to the character back in 2010, and now we can rest easy knowing “Evil Ernie” will be back. Dynamite Entertainment has kept somewhat tight lipped about the upcoming re-launch of the classic Chaos Comics characters, including the upcoming Evil Ernie series. Jesse Blaze Snider (Muppets, Toy Story) has been confirmed to be writing the EVIL ERNIE reboot for quite some time, but announcements have been made with regards to an artist.

Bloody-Disgusting did some creeping around and found a tweet from artist Jason Craig (ReAnimator, Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash) that reads, “Starting my morning before 6am on a Saturday to kick some ass on the new EVIL ERNIE relaunch with a kick ass script from @tweetjesse”. The tweet can be viewed online here.
