[Interview] Taylor Momsen Of The Pretty Reckless

Gossip Girl Taylor Momsen has taken the rock and roll world by storm with her band The Pretty Reckless. The band’s 2010 debut album Light Me Up was pretty much critically acclaimed and the band has been touring extensively, including an opening slot on Evanescence‘s recent tour.

Now, the band is back with a five-track EP entitled Hit Me Like A Man (iTunes). In anticipation of this release, BD Music caught up with singer Taylor Momsen to discuss the current state of things with the band as well as Taylor’s opinion on how women are seen in the rock and roll world. Next week sees the release of Enslaved, Soulfly‘s eighth studio album (iTunes preorder). In anticipation of this release, BD Music caught up with singer/guitarist Max Cavalera to discuss the album, his autobiography, and the video for World Scum. Rather than transcribing this interview, I chose to leave it as an audio interview because the passion of Max when talking about the fans is something I feel needs to be heard. It just wouldn’t have worked in writing.

Just the other day, I had the chance to chat with GWAR frontman and leader of the universe, Oderus Urungus himself. We spoke about his upcoming role in the FEARnet original, Holliston, which follows directors Adam Green and Joe Lynch as they chase their dreams of being horror directors. Oderus has taken on the role of Adam’s imaginary friend and resides in his closet, coming forth here and there to offer what seems to be truly dreadful advice that should not be heeded.

[Interview] Jim Matheos Talks OSIs Fire Make Thunder

A band that I’ve been a big fan of for many years is OSI, which features Jim Matheos (Fates Warning) and Kevin Moore (ex-Dream Theater). There is something old-school, yet incredibly futuristic about their approach to prog-metal. I can’t exactly explain it, but listen to their albums and you’ll understand what I mean.

So, with great excitement, I got the opportunity to speak to Jim regarding the upcoming album Fire Make Thunder (out March 27th). We spoke about everything from the title to specific songs to how many of the sounds were created. Check out this exclusive interview below.

Bilateral, the third studio album from Leprous, is easily one of my favorite releases this year (review here). The mix of prog with metal combined with a vintage feel but a modern sound all came together to create an album that I just cannot stop listening to. So I was beyond excited when I got the opportunity to chat with vocalist/keyboardist Einar Solberg. We discussed the album, the sounds and tones used, the artwork, and Einar’s thoughts on horror. Five Finger Death Punch are undoubtedly one of the biggest acts in the hard rock/metal scene today and the proof is in their latest single, Under and Over It. The track was number one on iTunes and when news of its release came out, the FFDP server crashed due to the overwhelming number of listeners and supporters. Already, it’s making its way to becoming the most requested rock song on radio stations all over the country.
