Rapper Ill Bill has released a new song entitled “Paul Baloff”, which comes from his upcoming album The Grimy Awards (out Feb. 26th). The song is a tribute to the ex-singer of Exodus, one of Bill’s favorite bands from his teenage years. Bill explains in an interview with Spin, “He’s been an unsung hero of real heads. Real old-school heads who really know the real-deal stuff always give props to Paul Baloff…”
For all you metalheads who have been desperately wanting some new reading material while you do your holy business on your porcelain throne, authors Howie Abrams and Sacha Jenkins may very well have provided you with your next big thing: The Merciless Book Of Metal Lists! This book is a compendium of dozens of factual, random and often outrageous lists that celebrate the best and the worst aspects of metal.
Contributions come from such authority figures as Scott Ian (Anthrax), Gary Holt (Exodus), Max Cavalera (Sepultura/Soulfly), Danny Lilker (Nuclear Assault/Brutal Truth), Katon W.DePena (Hirax), and many others. There will also be lists from Metal Blade CEO Brian Slagel, Eddie Trunk, Monte Conner, and many more.
Per the official press release: “You want to know about album covers that feature goats on them? What Motorhead icon Lemmy’s warts might tell you if they could speak? The achievements Iron Maiden would never have reached had their original vocalist Paul Dianno remained in the band?”
Several new acts have been added to the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival XV today, including Allegaon, Alpha & Omega, Born Low, MurderDeathKill, Dark Sermon, Trapped Under Ice, and The Dillinger Escape Plan. Tommy Victor, axe-master and vocalist for metal band Prong, has officially announced that he has teamed up with Schecter Guitars for a signature guitar. He will be showing it off at NAMM on Saturday, Jan. 26th alongside Exodus, Jeff Loomis, and Chris Poland.
Victor comments, “I am so happy to finally have my own signature model being released! And to have it done through Schecter is an honor and a highlight in my career. We put our minds together to design an intense model that we know guitar players and collectors of all sorts are going to appreciate. I’m personally impressed with the outcome. It’s amazing!
“To help celebrate Schecter’s dominance in new designs and innovation and quality all around, along with the release of the Tommy Victor signature model, PRONG will be supporting Exodus at the Schecter NAMM Party Saturday Jan 26th at the Grove in Anaheim. Also performing is my old friend Chris Poland and his band Ohm, and one of the world’s top shredders Jeff Loomis. The incredible Gary Holt with the rest of us will be doing a signing at the new upstairs Schecter booth at NAMM (which will have my new model on display) Friday Jan. 25 at 1pm. See you at NAMM!”

Thrash metal legends Anthrax recently announced the shocking news that lead guitarist Rob Caggiano had quit the band, just a month before a heavy touring schedule was set to begin. However, the band also stated that they would not be hosting auditions for a new lead guitarist. The reason for that is now obvious as it has been announced that Shadows Fall guitarist Jon Donais will be filling in as lead guitarist while the band tours over the next few months.
Scott Ian states, “Jon is a bro and he’s also a total fucking ripper. I’ve worked with him twice before on side projects and he tears it up. I’m excited to have him on my right burning up the stage with Anthrax. 13′s gonna be a good year.”
Donais adds, “I grew up on Anthrax, they’re the thrash scene, they’re one of The Big Four, I’d be crazy to not want to play with them. Initially, Rob called and told me he was leaving the band, and asked if I’d be interested in filling in. Then Scott called me and everything fell into place. Rob and I are using Skype to work on solos and other guitar parts, so he’s being great. I also have to give special thanks to my band – Brian, Matt, Jason and Ed – who have been incredibly supportive and encouraged me to do this.”
You can see all tour dates that Donais will be on below. READ MORE
Thrash metal legends (and one of the Big Four) Anthrax have announced tour dates for the upcoming ‘Metal Alliance’ tour, which you can check out below. The band will play their 1987 album Among The Living in its entirety during the tour. Support will come from Exodus, Municipal Waste, and Holy Grail.
Guitarist Scott Ian comments, “Holy crap am I so excited about this year’s Metal Alliance Tour! It’s been a great year and a half for us since ‘Worship Music’ came out and to cap it off with a Grammy nomination. This is such a perfect lineup. To make this tour even more special, we will be playing our ‘Among The Living’ record in its entirety. I can’t wait to play ‘Horror Of It All’! Come on out and worship with us, my friends. You do not want to miss this. USA on Hell one more time.”
A demo version of metalcore band Killswitch Engage‘s song entitled “No End In Sight” has leaked onto the internet, resulting in the band performing the track live. It is the first track to feature original KSE vocalist Jesse Leach on front vocals since he left the band after the release of 2002′s Alive Or Just Breathing (he did guest vocals on two tracks on 2004′s The End Of Heartache). The track is a rough demo and, according to Adam Dutkiewicz in an interview with Guitar World, “It’s actually the one tune that’s pretty different from the other stuff. Overall the rest of the album is a little faster, a little meaner, a little growlier — thrashy but with lots of clean parts. We’re going a little more extreme this time.” You can hear “No End In Sight” below.
The band is currently in the studio mixing their upcoming album with producer Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Exodus, Nevermore). The as-of-yet untitled album will be released sometime in early 2013 via Roadrunner Records.
As many of you know, last night The Big 4 rocked New York’s Yankee Stadium. The show is, as of yet, the only East Coast show from these thrash metal giants but one can hope that this arrangement will keep on posting shows. To celebrate their rocking out on the East Coast, all of the bands, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, and even members of Exodus, came out and jammed out on Motorhead‘s classic song Overkill.
