[BEST & WORST '12] David Harley’s List of the Best Horror Films of 2012!

I can’t believe 2012 is almost over. Partly because the year flew by, but mostly because not many films that came out truly left an impression. As horror fans, I think we’re in the same sort of position we were in at the tail-end of all the torture crap; we need a new movement. A new direction. A new something. Anything. We’ve gone through a few trends in the past few years (found footage, ghosts, and vampires to name a few), but nobody is doing anything interesting with them at the moment.

The reason I’m doing all this complaining as a preface for my Best Of list is because this is the first year since I’ve been writing for the site that I haven’t been able to come up with a Top Ten. Either I pulled a Rip Van Winkle and slept through the year or 2012 was a huge bummer. Below are my five favorite horror films of the year, along with a really fun honorable mention that just barely didn’t make it onto the list. READ MORE

[Horror In Your House] June 11th, 2012

A Hollywood box office bomb, and a handful of “swing and misses” fill out this week’s Horror In Your House. Nic Cage’s Ghost Rider sequel is here, but you probably don’t care and I wouldn’t blame you. And Monster Brawl, a UFC style monster fighting spoof, rings it way into stores. Check out the rest of the releases below and let me know what you’re picking up.

THE DARK CRSYTAL / LABRYNTH (Blu-Ray) (1986) – Sony Pictures
Jim Henson’s beloved fantasy films together on Blu-ray in a collectible box set featuring new art by Brian Froud.

DEVILMAN (2004) – Tokyo Shock
Best friends Akira and Ryo (played by real-life twins Hisato & Yusuke Izaki) are just your average high school students until they receive word that Ryo s father has accidentally unleashed a horde of demons while conducting experiments in Antarctica. Akira becomes Devilman, a powerful entity who somehow retains his human conscience, and it is up to him to battle with the heartless demons including his erstwhile friend Ryo in a climactic, apocalyptic showdown! Troma’s ‘Father’s Day’ Blu-ray Will Be 4-Disc Set

Troma Entertainment has announced that the limited edition Blu-ray release of Father’s Day, just in time for Father’s Day, will now be a four-disc set. The set, which will contain the film on high definition blu-ray and standard definition DVD, plus a DVD of extra features, and a CD soundtrack EP with songs from the movie including “The Hunter” and “We Are the Universe” from acclaimed musician Smokey Miles, will be available June 12.

The gritty, gruesome, VHS throwback ‘Father’s Day’ follows that classic story we all grew up with: boy watches father raped and murdered, boy grows into a vengeful one-eyed man, man teams up with a priest and a male prostitute to take down his father’s killer.
