Let’s Go Behind the Scenes With This New F3AR Featurette

Last month we witnessed what it takes to make gunfire sound real (hint, you record real gunfire) and now we get to go behind the scenes with F.3.A.R. yet again to see how they captured the graceful animations in the game. In the video below you can watch them record the movements of a couple actors that are then used in the game to make the character movements more realistic then animating them by hand.

I would love to be a mo-cap actor, if only so I can have a reason to come into work every day dressed in tight fitting clothing covered in little balls. I could totally pull that off. READ MORE

This F3AR Featurette Is A Gun Nut’s Wet Dream

In case you missed it, FEAR 3 is out and it’s a damn fun game. Sadly, much of the scares have left the series at this point but the gunplay is fun, the co-op is great, and Paxton Fettel is a sexy beast. One thing that’s stayed true across all of the FEAR games is the stellar sound effects, so if you’ve found yourself wondering how they get the guns to sound so damn good, here’s a video that’s more than willing to answer your questions.

From now on I’m referring to my nether regions as “The Big,” if only to be ironic. I remember going through a gun phase, fueled by my love of Resident Evil and the need to be prepared for when the inevitably turns to shit. I’ve had the chance to handle a couple different weapons ranging from a 9mm Beretta to a 12 Gauge Shotgun, but nothing as cool as some of the guns that guy got to use. I’ll admit I might be just a little bit jealous. READ MORE

These Trailers Prove The Critics Love FEAR 3

So FEAR 3 is getting some solid reviews. Critics seem to be enjoying it, but really, who cares about them? Sure, 1Up calls it a blockbuster and GamesRadar has good things to say about its multiplayer, but what about me? In case you missed it, I enjoyed the fuck out of FEAR 3, but alas, none of my praise can be found on the game’s edited launch trailer. So to remedy this, I have an exclusive accolades trailer, made up of quotes from our review. Check it out below.

What?! That last quote was taken out of context! I’ll have you know I’m only mildly fond of cannibals. Moving on. I’m positive that trailer’s a little narcissistic but it’s all about me, so it’s alright. If you’d rather see what other sites have to say about FEAR 3, though I don’t know why you would after seeing that incredibly well made trailer above, you can check out the real video after the jump. But really, you don’t need to. READ MORE

FEAR 3 Review: There’s Nothing More Beautiful Than Brotherly Love

Since the first game, and excluding the expansions which I’ve never played, I’ve been a big fan of the FEAR series. It’s blend of action, horror and tight gunplay brought much of what I love about video games (namely gore, flailing limbs, and slo-mo gunplay) and threw it all together in a neat little package. The first FEAR was a damn terrifying game; on the horror meter (that I made up just now) it wouldn’t rank at shit-out-your-spine terrifying, but it’d definitely score in at oops-I-think-I-just-peed-a-little.

Fear 3 Is Out, Let The Horror Begin

Today is a good day. Why? Shadows Of The Damned came out, and Fear 3 as well. Horror fans are going to have a busy week. Fear 3 is out on the PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360, and for those who don’t already know, it’s going to focus much on the 2 player co-op campaign. The game revolves around 2 brothers, Point Man and Paxton Fettel. The brothers are the spawns of their currently pregnant (potentially with a demon baby?) mother Alma.

FEAR 3′s Launch Trailer is All About the Brotherly Love

While it might look like one on the surface, FEAR 3 isn’t a horror game. Instead, this is a game about brotherly love, a PSA of sorts that’s telling you to walk up to your sibling and give them a big hug. Because when the shit hits the fan and the world is a post-apocalyptic wasteland filled with ghosts and monsters just waiting to tear your ass in half, you’re going to want some backup. Of course, it helps if your sibling is really good with guns, can slow down time, or has an assortment of supernatural powers that give them the ability to possess, levitate or explode enemies. Wait, what was this about? Oh yeah, FEAR 3′s launch trailer. Check it out.

If the apocalypse does come, or when it comes, people like me are screwed. Being an only child means I have no sidekick to shoot in the forehead so they can come back and be my beat ‘em up pal. Oh, and FEAR 3 hits store shelves on June 21st in the US and the 24th for those across the pond. READ MORE

FEAR 3 Featurette: John Carpenter Plays Games?

Alright, so John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing, though really, did I need to say that here?) being a gamer isn’t really the news here, but I’m just having trouble picturing it. I mean, now all I can think about is how I might’ve unknowingly played against him online and beat him, or worse yet, maybe he beat me? Anyway, the video below has John Carpenter and Steve Niles (30 Days of Night) talking about how much fun they had with the FEAR series and how great FEAR 3 is, though I’m sure the latter is to help sell copies of the game, it’s still a fun watch.

My only issue is Steve’s comment on making characters we can empathize with. I agree with the statement, as it’s impossible to be scared for a character you don’t care about, but FEAR 3′s sibling protagonists might very well be two of the least interesting characters, right up there with the likes of Duke Nukem. I mean, come on, one of the guys is called Point Man for Christ’s sake. I might be able to find room in my black heart to care about a Jim or a Steve, but fucking Point Man? With that said, the game looks like more good fun. READ MORE

New FEAR 3 Trailer Is All About Friendly Competition

F.3.A.R. is due out next month and so far it looks like it’ll offer plenty of scares, gore and crazy fun multiplayer modes that we’ve come to expect from the series. Our third foray into a crumbling world of ghosts and insane psychic pregnant women will also bring with it cooperative play, a first for the series. Sure, you’ll be working together, as brothers, but you’ll also be working against your partner to get the highest score. I’m always up for a little brotherly competition.

Test your skills when F.3.A.R. releases for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on June 21st. READ MORE

Let’s Have A Better Look At F.3.A.R.’s F**king Run Multiplayer Mode

I’m really not the type of person that enjoys running, or even jogging. Hell, getting up to replace my empty soda can is almost too much work for this particularly lazy individual, but despite all that I’m very much looking forward to F.3.A.R’s multiplayer mode called F**king Run. Despite those strategically placed asterisks I’ve taken it upon myself to decode this mode’s true title, and that’s FUCKING RUN! What are you running from? Check it out below.

If you’d like a better look at the many modes included in F.3.A.R’s multiplayer offering you can check out a satisfying look at all of the game’s online modes. The game releases on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on June 21st, after a brief delay. READ MORE

We’ll Have to Wait An Extra Month for F.3.A.R.

Look, I’ve got some good news and some bad news. You want the bad news first? Alright, I’ll oblige. The bad news is if you were looking forward to some steamy supernatural action later this month, you’ll now have to wait just a little bit longer before you’ll be able to get your F.3.A.R. on. An extra month, to be more exact. And to be even more precise, the game’s been delayed to June 21st for us nasty Americans and the 27th for everyone across the pond.

Delay Well Have to Wait An Extra Month for F.3.A.R.

Since I like to look on the bright side of things, the silver lining if you will (and you will), I’ve found a way to twist this into something positive. First, this means they’ll have an extra month to polish up the game, and secondly, this only makes June even more amazing for us horror fanatics. Also in the early summer reserves is Alice: Madness Returns due out June 14th (6/16 for Europe) and Shadows of the Damned that’s aiming for the exact same release date as F.3.A.R. READ MORE

Is Fear 3 A Little Confusing To You? Me Too.

I must admit, I’ve not been the biggest fan of the FEAR series thus far. Also, I have been a little confused as far as the Pointman and Fettel characters are concerned in Fear 3. But the video below definitely helped me clear up all that jazz. So if you have also been a little lost check it out.

F.3.A.R. will be out on the PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360 on May 24th. READ MORE

This F.3.A.R. Trailer is All About the Multiplayer

The third game in the supernatural FPS series looks to be shaking up its multiplayer offering a bit with a few fresh modes. We have the Contractions mode where you and some friends tear up wave after wave of baddies. It’s similar to Gears of War’s Horde, Halo’s Firefight or Left 4 Dead’s Survival mode, but with a twist. Instead of holding out in one area it looks like you can search out new weapons and barricade yourself in certain areas so whether you’re the offensive or defensive type you’ll be rewarded for either. Then there’s the Soul Survivor and Soul King modes that introduce phantoms and possession into the mix, forcing you to fight against your former allies.

By far my favorite is the F**KING RUN mode where you do exactly what the mode’s name implies: fucking run. I like that this one really requires you to work as a team in a unique way, helping incapacitated teammates and clearing the road of bad guys before the wave of death and destruction catches up to you. I’ll admit I’ve never been a big fan of the series’ multiplayer but there are definitely a few modes I’ll be checking out when F.3.A.R. releases on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on May 24th (and May 26th for those across the pond). I Don’t Think You Guys Are Too Into The Fear Series, Confirm Or Deny?

Views tell me everything. If I post news about a game and nobody looks at it, I get the assumption nobody likes it, or no one is into it. As far as the Fear series goes, it’s a fairly big and popular game. I mean, they cranked out 2 sequels fairly quick since the originals release in 2005. But you just aren’t giving it the time of day.

So that makes me wonder, do you like the series, hate it, meh it? Tell me, I’m curious. Also, the story trailer above will give you some insight on the fucked up family that is Alma and her two sons, Point Man and Paxton Fettel. Fear 3 this May on the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. READ MORE

What Do F.E.A.R. 3 And Julius Caesar Have In Common?

Well, that would be today. March 15th. The same day that Caesar was betrayed by his friends and his brother Brutus. And not just betrayed, but murdered as well. In the video below (which the press release was VERY specific about age gating. Even though the video isn’t really bad like some others I’ve seen. So go ahead and read this yourself.) brothers Paxton Fettel and Point Man talk about their killing, sort of. This video may only be displayed if it is behind an age-gate that: (1) is age-neutral (i.e., requires the user to input their date of birth or select it from a drop-down bar; (2) employs reasonable technical measures to keep underage users from re-entering their age after initially being denied access; and (3) does not display any age rating information on the video player or the age-gate itself. Failure to implement these requirements may jeopardize your ability to obtain material of this nature from us in the future.

Nice warning right? Gotta love Warner Brothers. Fear 3 will be out this May on the PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360. READ MORE

Play As Paxton Fettel in FEAR 3′s Single Player

Paxton Fettel is a bad, bad man. If you’ve seen his work in past FEAR games you know he’s be awkward to have as a friend, with that his cannibalistic tendencies and such. However, for those of you who enjoy treading the dark side FEAR 3 will give you the option to play as this undead badass, and all you have to do is beat each chapter as Point Man to unlock Fettel as a playable character.

Sounds good to me, I don’t know about you but the game just got a little more interesting knowing I can crush skulls, possess my enemies and throw them about the room with my evil dude superpowers. Head past the break for some screens. READ MORE

This Bunch of New F.3.A.R. Screens Look Scary Good

Originally planned for a release next month, F.3.A.R. was recently pushed back to a yet-to-be-revealed May release so it could get a little extra time for polishing. So to tide us over Warner Bros. has provided our hungry eyeballs with a bunch of brand new screenshots, all of which can be seen after the jump.

1 This Bunch of New F.3.A.R. Screens Look Scary Good

In case you aren’t too familiar with the goings on with this game, it’s a cooperative shooter set firmly in the action/horror genre where you and a friend (or assorted stranger) can team up and kill a metric fuckton of baddies. You’ll be able to choose between the Point Man, your basic gun-wielding, cover-taking soldier who also just so happens to have a miraculous ability to slow down time. Or, you can choose his brother Paxton Fettel, the series’ longtime villain who comes armed with some snazzy supernatural abilities including possession and telekinesis. Our Horror Game Wish List for the Sony NGP

The PSP2 has been unveiled and it’s looking like more than a worthy contender to the Nintendo 3DS. Its 5″ OLED touch screen, rear touch panels, Six Axis, 3G/Wifi functionality and snazzy look leaves little complaints to be had. Well, it is slightly larger than the PSP 3000 so I’m sure that’s disappointing to a few people, but other than that the future is looking bright for Sony’s next handheld.

1 Our Horror Game Wish List for the Sony NGP

Good looks and impressive tech will only get you so far though, so the NGP’s developer and publisher support will be crucial to its success. Lucky for us, if the list below shows how strong third party support for the console is. With companies that have major stakes in the horror genre included in the list (check out the full list after the jump) my head is buzzing with all the possible horror games we could see on the platform. Here are the most exciting games we’d like to see make it to the NGP. READ MORE

F.3.A.R. Co-op Looks Like Bloody Good Fun

F.3.A.R. marks the series’ first assault on the world of cooperative gaming and if the following video is any indication it seems to be shaping up pretty nicely. In it you’ll be able to choose between Point Man, who has the ability to use cover and slow down time, or Paxton Fettel who has more supernatural abilities such as telekinesis and possession.

F.3.A.R. releases on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 this May. Head past the jump for a look at the game’s collector’s edition that includes a statue of a pregnant Alma, and who doesn’t want one of those? READ MORE

F.3.A.R. Almaverse Trailer

The previous Fear games were scary no doubt. But this trailer for Fear 3, this makes me think the 3rd game in the series will be the scariest. Why? Well, Alma is pregnant. Which is only opening up more insane doors and possibilities for more Fear games. And on top of that, not only do you have crazy bitch Alma to deal with, but her insane demon seed baby as well.

In the 1st 2 Fear games, we only really got small glimpses into Alma’s mind. But as she gets closer and closer to giving birth, she starts losing it and you become engulfed in her insane world. Check out screens and more game info past the break. READ MORE

F.3.A.R. Fettel Trailer, Screenshots

You got to see Pointman in action, so, how about Fettel? Pretty much a total badass. Check out some screen shots past the break, and look out for a ton more videos and screenshots from F.3.A.R. seeing as they overloaded us with them from Fear 2.

“Alma returns in F.E.A.R. 3 but this time her sons Point Man and Paxton Fettel are characters available to play in divergent co-op, giving players distinctly different abilities affecting their own play as well as the experience of their co-op partner. Gamers participate in single player or co-op modes as Point Man, and they can play cooperatively as his conniving brother Paxton Fettel whose incredible telekinetic power has given him life beyond the grave. “ The game is looking at a 3rd quarter release this year on the PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360.
