An More In Depth Look At The Jaeger Mech In ‘Pacific Rim’

A behind the scenes featurette has surfaced that takes a look at the Jaeger robots of Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. It’s pretty cool, and it’s always fun to watch del Toro talk about his projects, he’s always brimming with enthusiasm.

In theaters July 12, “When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Robert Kazinsky, Ron Perlman, Max Martini, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Diego Klattenhoff and Brad William Henke all star. READ MORE

The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop a pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.

What Did It Take To Create Metro: Last Light’s Incredible ‘Enter the Metro’ Trailer? (Spoiler: A Lot)

A few weeks back we witnessed the beginning of the apocalypse in the fantastic ‘Enter the Metro’ live action trailer for Metro: Last Light. As far as trailers go, it was a work of art, and while I really don’t need any more reasons to be pumped for Last Light–it certainly did the job. A lot of work went into making that trailer a reality, as you can see in the making of featurette after the break. The game doesn’t come out until next year, but I’ve already started packing my apocalypse survival bag. Speaking of which, anyone know where I can get a handheld Geiger counter and a military grade gas mask?

New ‘Prometheus’ Featurette Shows You The Design Behind “Space Travel”

Prometheus International Banner 51712 New Prometheus Featurette Shows You The Design Behind Space Travel

Another featurette for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus actually goes pretty light on spoilers and instead talks about the design of the film’s titular space craft. It’s pretty standard, but interesting behind the scenes stuff – especially if you’re a geek for design and/or space travel.

With ‘Prometheus,’ Scott creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

In theaters June 8, Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Guy Pearce, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green, Benedict Wong, Emun Elliott, Ben Foster, Patrick Wilson all star.

New ‘Prometheus’ Featurette “Origins” Examines Life On Other Planets

For better or worse, it’s growing increasingly common to post on Ridley Scott’s Prometheus almost every day. Sometimes twice a day. Such is the glut of material that surrounds the film. But featurettes like this one – entitled “Origins” – are well worth your time. As brief as it is, it’s always a pleasure to hear Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof wax philosophical about the big idea in their Alien prequel.

Lollipocalypse

Don’t Worry, It’s Only Another Lollipop Chainsaw Featurette

Much like how rainbows fly from the open wounds you inflict on the hordes of undead in the next month’s Lollipop Chainsaw, the game itself has a soft, romantic center hidden under all that blood and rock and roll. It’s kind of like TJ–beneath that bloodied, brutish exterior lies a kind young boy just waiting for someone to come and give him a big hug. In case you were wondering how the hell they managed to mix lollipops, rainbows, cheerleaders and romance with zombies, gore, chainsaws and severed limbs, this new featurette could answer some of your burning questions. I had a burning question once, but I got some ointment and it cleared up after a few weeks. Anyway, head past the break for a new behind the scenes featurette!

Directed by Chris Gorak, and starring Olivia Thirlby, Emile Hirsch, Rachael Taylor, Joel Kinnaman and Max Minghella, the 28 Days-like thriller follows five young people who find themselves stranded in Moscow, fighting to survive in the wake of a devastating alien attack. Prototype 2 Featurette Shows Off Its Pulsating Tendril

Prototype 2 is all about having fun. It’s like Just Cause 2 or Saints Row in that you’re given a huge world to explore and a vast assortment of tools with which to destroy it. I really enjoyed the first game, despite its flaws, and the next one looks like it’s taking everything to a whole other level. How many games let you karate kick helicopters and throw your enemies halfway across the city? I can’t say for sure but I think it’s safe to say there aren’t many that offer that type of fun, and now it looks like we can add “pulsating tendril action” to the ever-growing list of amazing features in Prototype 2.

Usually when I whip out my pulsating tendril in a public space I’m met with wide-eyes and a lot of laughter. Thanks to Prototype 2 that laughter will be replaced by screams and bloodshed when the game releases sometime next year. READ MORE

This F3AR Featurette Is A Gun Nut’s Wet Dream

In case you missed it, FEAR 3 is out and it’s a damn fun game. Sadly, much of the scares have left the series at this point but the gunplay is fun, the co-op is great, and Paxton Fettel is a sexy beast. One thing that’s stayed true across all of the FEAR games is the stellar sound effects, so if you’ve found yourself wondering how they get the guns to sound so damn good, here’s a video that’s more than willing to answer your questions.

From now on I’m referring to my nether regions as “The Big,” if only to be ironic. I remember going through a gun phase, fueled by my love of Resident Evil and the need to be prepared for when the inevitably turns to shit. I’ve had the chance to handle a couple different weapons ranging from a 9mm Beretta to a 12 Gauge Shotgun, but nothing as cool as some of the guns that guy got to use. I’ll admit I might be just a little bit jealous. READ MORE

FEAR 3 Featurette: John Carpenter Plays Games?

Alright, so John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing, though really, did I need to say that here?) being a gamer isn’t really the news here, but I’m just having trouble picturing it. I mean, now all I can think about is how I might’ve unknowingly played against him online and beat him, or worse yet, maybe he beat me? Anyway, the video below has John Carpenter and Steve Niles (30 Days of Night) talking about how much fun they had with the FEAR series and how great FEAR 3 is, though I’m sure the latter is to help sell copies of the game, it’s still a fun watch.

My only issue is Steve’s comment on making characters we can empathize with. I agree with the statement, as it’s impossible to be scared for a character you don’t care about, but FEAR 3′s sibling protagonists might very well be two of the least interesting characters, right up there with the likes of Duke Nukem. I mean, come on, one of the guys is called Point Man for Christ’s sake. I might be able to find room in my black heart to care about a Jim or a Steve, but fucking Point Man? With that said, the game looks like more good fun. READ MORE

It’s a Dead Space 2 Featurette Extravaganza!

Happy Tuesday folks because I have not one but three incredibly awesome featurettes for the upcoming Dead Space 2. The first gives us an in-depth look at the game’s thrills and chills and after the break you can check out the other two videos that are all about protagonist Isaac Clarke and the game’s kickass multiplayer. The only questions is, can you handle all this awesome at once?

Whether Dead Space 2 would be as strong in the scares department as its predecessor was has always been a concern for many gamers, including myself. Thankfully, EA seeks to soothe our worries by saying the game will be just as terrifying and the pacing and action will be much improved as well. So what about our other worries? Head past the jump to see what’s been changed about Isaac Clarke and what you can expect from the game’s Left 4 Dead style multiplayer. READ MORE
