Circus

An American family is driving across the Nevada desert, along an endless empty highway. Suddenly a tiger crosses the road ahead of them, causing an accident. What the hell was a tiger doing in the middle of the highway?

In the distance they see a station wagon, which draws level and pulls to a halt. Its three odd-looking occupants offer them a tow: they live nearby.

At the end of a twisting, turning dirt track, they reach their destination… a circus!

The rest of the troupe is waiting for them – a bizarre welcoming committee of clowns, animal trainers, trapeze artists, strongmen, little people and acrobats. These fantastical characters greet their visitors, surrounded by the dust and dirt of their run-down camp and their half-starved animals.

Without much choice in the matter, the family accepts an invitation to stay the night. While his family sleeps, Frankie, the eldest of the children, goes exploring among the circus people’s caravans, hoping for glimpse of a beautiful circus girl. But to his horror he finds the whole troupe gleefully destroying the car.

Frankie runs to warn his family: they have to escape. But where can they run to, in the middle of the desert?

It’s too late – the show has begun. The family tries to get away as best they can, but run up against one bizarre and sinister character after another, each set on using their circus skills to deadly effect.

[AFM '12] The Poster For ‘Summer Camp’, From The Makers Of ‘[REC]‘!!!

Yesterday we reported that the production house responsible for the [REC] franchise is developing the new horror project Summer Camp to shoot in 2013. They debuted the poster today at the American Film Market in Santa Monica.

While there are no details just yet, Sleep Tight screenwriter Alberto Marini will be making his directorial debut on the film and co-wrote the screenplay.

The plot is under wraps but Marini commented to Variety, “There’s a game common to the majority of kids around the world, both in and out of summer camps: “Tag, you are it”…. The fun of the game is that the roles are constantly changing: The pursuer becomes the pursued, the cat becomes the mouse.” He added, “We wanted to capture this idea in a horror-filled, adrenaline-pumped movie…. A film in which you’re never sure who your friends or who your enemies are, a game you’d never wish to be part of and where, sometimes, in order to escape the only option is to attack.” Jaume Balaguero (Sleep Tight, [REC], [REC]2) executive produces.

Scott Kosar (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Crazies, Amityville Horror, The Machinist) will pen the screenplay that’s described as a twisted adaptation of “Robinson Crusoe,” where the story’s protagonist, Robert Maitland, a wealthy architect, finds himself stranded in a manmade ‘island’ (a section of fenced-off wasteland in the middle of a motorway intersection) between the Westway and M4 Motorway in West London, forced to survive on only what is in his crashed Jaguar and what he is able to find. First Official Casting for ‘REC: Genesis’!

Fans of Filmax’s REC franchise get ready for two more films as co-creator Paco Plaza is now in pre-production on REC: Genesis, the third film that set up the fourth and final REC: Apocalypse.

Bloody Disgusting learned exclusively that Leticia Dolera (pictured) – who ironically played a reporter in the REC spoof Spanish Movie – and Diego Martin will topline the Spanish-language film that’s shooting to be completed in 2011.

The action in REC: Genesis encompasses the events of the first two films and after the sense of claustrophobia previously experiences. The action now takes place miles away from the original location and partly in broad daylight giving the film an entirely fresh yet disturbing new reality. The infection has left the building. In a clever twist that draws together the plots of the first two movies this third part of the saga also works as a decoder to uncover information hidden in the first two films and leaves the door open for the final installment the future REC: Apocalypse.
