Saga-12

Review: ‘Saga’ #12

This month’s issue of Saga has been the topic of some controversy due to the vulgar nature of Fiona Staples art; oddly enough this style is also a reason why her art is so appealing. I’ve heard talks of comic shops not allowing this “Saga” into their stores, and for a brief stint the popular comic website ComiXology was not offering the book on Apple devices. This outrageousness is a shame because it overshadows the incredible chapter that is Saga #12. READ MORE

Review: ‘Saga’ #5

Saga steamrolls back onto into the scene this week with a heart wrenching issue that’ll have you feeling some serious empathy. As always BKV and Fiona Staples use their skills to create an amazing comic, the amount of talent it takes to pull this book off is beyond measure. After every issue, I let myself believe that there is no way the book can be topped, until I pick up the following issue…This month is no different. READ MORE

5 Skull Review: ‘Saga’ #10

Saga continues its incredible pace and adds a tear jerking element to this week’s issue as this current story arc comes to a climatic head. Every issue of “Saga” has given the story extra levels of depth that showcase BKV’s incredible writing skills and imagination. This issue brings us back to Marko, Alana, and the gang as The Will and Gwendoyln close in on their position. READ MORE

Review: ‘Saga’ #9

It’s that time of the month! Saga drops with another outstanding issue brought to you by Brian K. Vaughan, Fiona Staples, and Image Comics. “Saga” is easily my favourite series to drop this past year, every issue brings new elements, plot twists, and, best of all, world building. Anyone who has read an issue knows that BKV is next level when it comes to the all-encompassing world he’s created and Fiona works magic with the pencil. Issue #9 is just another example of their combined prowess. READ MORE

Review: ‘Saga’ #8

Week after week I find myself shivering with anticipation for a new release of Brian K. Vaughan’s Saga, thankfully this week brings issue #8 and I find myself “wowed”, once again, by the uniqueness of the book. This issue further expands Vaughan’s intergalactic environment, coupled with a dramatic backstory for our unlikely couple. It’s insane how well this book mixes genres. Vaughan’s imagination is incomprehensibly vast to be able to take a “Lord of the Rings” idea, mix it in with “Dune”, and cap it all off with a little bit of horror. READ MORE

[NYCC 12] Speculative Fiction and Image Comics Panel

Image Comics just held their sci-fi panel featuring creative teams of Brian K Vaughaun and Fiona Staples, Brian Wood and Mind Doyle, as well as David Hine, Joe Harris, and Glen Brunswick. Though the official title for the panel was “Wondrous Worlds, Fractured Futures: Speculative Fiction and Image Comics”, it really just covered their sci-fi and fantasy books. The creators spoke in depth about their work, and their views on science fiction in comics. READ MORE

IDW Takes A Major Stab At ‘Twilight’ This Fall With Grisly ‘Done To Death’!

One of my absolute favorite things to do in life is poke fun at/and/or humiliate the name that is “TWILIGHT”. In fact, taking a page out of my good friend (and fellow BD staff writer) BJC’s book, I usually don’t even dignify the series by calling it by its proper title, and instead get away with reffering to the litter-ature as “TWATLIGHT”. However, it is always nice to see when other outlets and creators take the same initiative, and that is exactly what publisher IDW is doing this September with scribe Andrew Foley’s “DONE TO DEATH”. The all new graphic novel hits shelves this Fall, and below you can get all the deets…

IDW Takes A Major Stab At Twilight This Fall With Grisly Done To Death!

WRITTEN BY: Andrew Foley
ILLUSTRATIONS AND COVERS BY: Fiona Staples.

“Fed up with receiving poorly written Twilight knockoffs, editor Shannon Wade did what any reasonable person would: she started killing the worst of the would-be authors sending them to her. Meanwhile, Andy, a stuttering, overweight vampire has targeted those who portray vampires in a light he deems unrealistic. Not exactly novel but terribly graphic, Done To Death follows Andy and Shannon’s paths towards a collision as darkly funny as it is ridiculously violent.”

“DONE TO DEATH” Drops This September From IDW Publishing! (MSRP – $19.99 Page Count – 144) READ MORE
