Legendary’s now-filming Godzilla reboot, helmed by Monsters director Gareth Edwards, has had a fair amount of set footage leaked – nor from the film itself, but from people photographing the production. And lots of news outlets are airing footage, which we try to be discerning about providing. There’s so much stuff out there, we don’t want to overdo it. That being said, this video has a nice look at the aftermath of what seems to be a warzone.

Legendary’s now-filming Godzilla reboot, helmed by Monsters director Gareth Edwards, has seen a lot of news footage leak out of the military exercises they’re shooting right off the bat. To some degree, this stuff is interesting. But you reach a certain saturation point with it. Now, we’ve got a video that’s actually pretty cool – a well-shot look at one of the rappelling stunt sequences in this section of the film.

Airing tomorrow. Sunday, March 31 is the season finale of “The Walking Dead”, episode 316 “Welcome to the Tombs.” I figured this would be as good of an occasion as any to post my interview with star Dallas Roberts who plays Milton Mamet on the show. We talked about the longterm effects of being on “The Walking Dead” and how the cast reacted to switching showrunners from Glen Mazzara to Scott Gimple for the upcoming fourth season.
“In the ongoing third season, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his fellow survivors continue to seek refuge in a desolate and post-apocalyptic world and soon discover that there are greater forces to fear than just the walking dead. The struggle to survive has never been so perilous. Season 3 also introduced new characters, including the Governor (David Morrissey) and fan-favorite Michonne (Danai Gurira), along with her zombie pets.”
The show was recently renewed for its fourth season. Head inside to see if Roberts can talk about it! READ MORE

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla. is still on its’ first week of production under director Gareth Edwards and there’s already a second set video. In a way I think it’s smart that they’re doing these, but part of my wants to be blown away sight unseen when I enter the theater. But for those of you who are aching for it, it seems like they’re giving you what you want on the destruction tip.
Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Aaron Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Juliette Binoche and David Strathairn all star. Frank Darabont polished the most recent draft and Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing with Mary Parent and Brian Rogers.

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla. has started production in Vancouver under the guidance of helmer Gareth Edwards. Last month I guessed that the film probably wouldn’t start shooting this month because of new writer Frank Darabont’s small window of time in which to turn around a new draft. Well – I’m eating my words (and I’m happy to do it). They’re shooting now. Warner Bros. has also announced that Ken Watanabe (Inception) has joined the production as well.
He joins the previously cast Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Aaron Johnson, Juliette Binoche and David Strathairn. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing with Mary Parent and Brian Rogers.
Godzilla will roar on May 16, 2014.
As we mentioned earlier, AMC announced today that the cast and crew of “The Walking Dead“ return to Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, May 6th to begin production on season four. Season 3 is currently about to wrap up, but it’s also considered the strongest run in the series to date. And it’s certainly the highest rated, which is why it’s a bit of a mystery that showrunner Glen Mazzara is leaving and handing the reigns over to Scott M. Gimple.
While Gimple has been a writer on the show for years, it’s still a shocking move that caught many off guard. Luckily Scenestr caught up with Mazzara and got quite a few quotes that shed some light on the situation and what it means for the (already written) 4th season of “The Walking Dead.”

Pack another good actor on to the pile for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla. Per Variety, Juliette Binoche (pictured above; Dan In Real Life, Cosmopolis) is in negotiations to star in the film to be directed by Monsters helmer Gareth Edwards. As always, character descriptions are being kept under wraps.
While Legendary awaits Frank Darabont’s polish on the script, it’s worth noting that apparently none of the talent will be officially signed until he turns in a draft. This includes Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene, Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad”) and Aaron Johnson (Kick Ass).
Pic will bow May 16, 2014, with production expected to start next month. I’ll still believe it when I see it re: that production start date. READ MORE
While ousted producers Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes, Gangster Squad) and Roy Lee (The Departed, The Strangers, The Grudge) move forward with their lawsuit against Legendary Pictures, newly hired screenwriter Frank Darabont (Shawshank Redemption, The Mist, “The Walking Dead”) is hard at work on his pass of Legendary and Warner Bros.’ Gareth Edwards directed Godzilla remake.
Darabont has to be in a bit of a rush (the film starts shooting in March), but he took some time out to speak with io9. The conversation is encouraging. “What we’re trying to do with the new movie is not have it camp, not have it be campy. We’re kind of taking a cool new look at it… We want this to be a terrifying force of nature. And what was really cool, for me, is there was a very compelling human drama that I got to weave into it. It’s not that cliched, thinly disguised romance or bromance, or whatever. It’s different, it’s a different set of circumstances than you’re used to seeing.” When pressed on if he was going to connect Godzilla to a different contemporary issue he replied, “Yes I am, but I’m not going to give it away.”
Interesting. Godzilla is still (sort of) expected to hit theaters May 16th, 2014. READ MORE
Update: Per AICN the film starts shooting on March 14th in Vancouver and Hawaii and will operate under the working title of “Nautilus.”
Legendary and Warner Bros.’ claim that their Gareth Edwards directed Godzilla remake is due to start shooting in March – but it hit more than a few snags over the weekend. One potentially good development is that Frank Darabont (Shawshank Redemption, The Mist, “The Walking Dead”) has been hired to do a pass on the script. I’m not sure how they can fully accomodate and implement a rewrite in time for a March start date, but weirder things have happened. Then comes the news that producers Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes, Gangster Squad) and Roy Lee (The Departed, The Strangers, The Grudge) have been let go from the project.
This could potentially head to lawsuit country, there have been some reports that the parting is amicable, but this morning it appears as though all is not well. Per Deadline, “Actually, it could prove as toxic to Godzilla than the time the fire breather took on the smog monster Hedorah. This one’s going to wind up in the courts, I’m told. My understanding is, Lin and Lee refused to reduce the fees they signed on for when the original deal was made. Legendary brass feels it has the latitude to get rid of them, and is doing just that, exercising a pay or play clause and paying them upfront money to go away, with no back-end or credit on the film. The potential back-end on a global franchise is where the big bucks are.”
Yikes. Godzilla is still (sort of) expected to hit theaters May 16th, 2014. READ MORE
“Remember This?” is a new feature that highlights cool anecdotes from the horror genre’s storied past. It’ll pop up from time to time, giving your brain a spark of an insane memory before you move on with your day.
A few weeks back I was feeling a little soul sick. Not in a hugely existential way, but the movies I was watching were getting me down. I had watched a bunch of screeners and, while I loved many of them on a critical level, an emotional level and even a visceral level, they just weren’t much fun. I’m not complaining, I know I’m immensely lucky and I wouldn’t trade a “bad” week of watching screeners for a “good” week anywhere else. But after watching a seemingly endless parade of movies that were either incredibly serious, post apocalyptic, or just brutally depressing – I needed a palate cleanser. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for bleak horror, but there are so many other colors to our gruesome tapestry that have increasingly gone unused.
I’m not sure what it is but I sometimes feel like a lot of modern horror filmmakers are trying to “out hardcore” each other in terms of sheer dourness. That’s an odd competition to me. I’d rather see more writers and directors try to top each other in inventiveness, scares, characters, plotting and good old fashioned splatter.
That Friday night, I happened upon Chuck Russell’s 1988 The Blob remake. Written by Frank Darabont (it’s Russell and Darabont’s followup to their success with A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors) and starring Shawnee Smith and Kevin Dillon – it was just what I needed. An amazingly fun 1st act, a 2nd act that flew by and a 3rd act that went absolutely apesh*t (with added conspiracy theory)! Lots of gore, interesting characters, a good sense of humor and near perfect pacing. It was such a breath of fresh air.
What about you? There’s all kinds of room for more serious fair, but what are some horror movies you think are truly fun? And are there enough of them?
Now that AMC’s second season of The Walking Dead has come to an end, the cast and crew have already taken aim at the forthcoming third season that promises to up the ante with the introduction of David Morrissey as iconic The Governor and Danai Gurira as the badass Michonne, the legendary heroine from the Robert Kirkman comic series on which the zombie drama is based. Below you’ll find a video where the cast looks ahead, while us fans can now sit back and dream of the chaos that’ll ensure when the group take shelter in a prison…
“‘The Walking Dead’ tells the story of the weeks and months that follow a pandemic zombie apocalypse. County Sheriff Rick Grimes travels with his family and a small group of survivors, constantly in search of a safe and secure home. But the constant pressure of fighting off death on a daily basis takes a heavy toll, sending many to the lowest depths of human cruelty. As Rick struggles to keep his family alive, he will discover that the overwhelming fear of the survivors can be far more dangerous than the mindless walkers roaming the earth.” READ MORE

Spoiler Warning
A month after casting David Morrissey as iconic Big Bad The Governor, AMC’s “The Walking Dead” has brought in “Treme”‘s Danai Gurira (pictured below) as the badass Michonne, the legendary heroine from the Robert Kirkman comic series on which the zombie drama is based, reports THR.
While I have yet to watch the finale, the hooded, sword-wielding badass made her onscreen debut in the final moments of Sunday’s season two finale, saving Andrea (Laurie Holden) from an almost certain death when she arrived — with a pair of armless and jawless walkers chained behind her — to put down an approaching zombie.
Based on the character in the long-running comic series by Kirkman, the hooded Michonne arrives much the same way she did in the AMC series: Saving Otis from a group of walkers and joining Rick and company in the safety of the prison, which was featured in the final scene of the season Sunday.
The third season begins this coming October with much anticipation as the creative crew behind the series is quite aware of the pacing issues. In fact, things have been on the up and up IMO. What say you? READ MORE
We’ve just now added a second preview clip from AMC’s “The Walking Dead” episode 02.11, “Judge, Jury, Executioner.” Check out a preview from next Sunday’s episode below, which airs March 4 at 9/10c.
After an incredibly lackluster first half of the season, it took me three weeks to buckle down and watch the last trio of episodes. While the show is still lacking in various departments, it was 110% more entertaining, jam-packed with action and really pushing hard on the characters. It takes more than 3 episodes to repair the damage done, so I expect the build to the season to finale to be incredible. Only time will tell.

Earlier this month it was announced that “The Walking Dead” was renewed for a third season and bumped up to 16 episodes. That’s up from 6 episodes in Season 1 and 13 in Season 2. Just recently Tom Savini (who is lobbying for the part) said that John Hawkes was the producers’ choice to play Philip Blake, aka “The Governor”, in next year’s season.
Apparently that’s not the case. An update from Lilja’s Library drops a bomb on that rumor along with some additional Season 3 tidbits.
“The small town of Senoia in Coweta County is about to become zombie central for the filming of a hit cable show The Walking Dead. The show is scheduled to shoot in the town in May and construction of zombie sets will begin next week, which will involve 60 local carpenters. Scott Tigchelaar of Raleigh Studios Atlanta says people can expect to see the town a little dirtier than normal to fit the look of the show… It was earlier rumored that John Hawkes would play Philip Blake, the psychotic zombie-killer who declares himself the Governor of Woodbury. Now, it looks like that won’t happen. Hawkes’ publicist states quite plainly that “John is NOT appearing on The Walking Dead.” ”
