SundanceNOW and IFC Midnight’s Antiviral, directed by Brandon Cronenberg, opens on VOD and in limited theaters this Today, April 12th. So we figured we’d do two things, the first of which is to remind you to read Mr. Disgusting’s review (excerpted here),”The expectations may have been unfairly high (being the son of a legend demands some sort of competence), yet he surpasses them by delivering a deep, engaging, and beautifully shot art house horror film.”

You may recall a few weeks back when ComiXology ambitiously partnered with Marvel to give away over 700 free #1 issues. The site could not handle the insane traffic and download requests and crashed within hours. They’re back for another go at giving away 700 free Marvel comics. This time you have to sign up in advance before April 19th 11:59 PM on their special promo site. Why they don’t give away only a few books per day, I don’t know. The kind folks over at Arcana are spreading some holiday cheer, offering up the first chapter from their acclaimed horror graphic novel, The Evil Tree, for free. The publisher is feeling particularly jolly this Holiday Season, by also offering the entire trade at at 25% discount through their online store (promo code “ARCANAWINTER”).

The original graphic novel is written by Erik Hendrix with art from Daniel Thollin. It follows the story of Misha and her friends who venture into the woods to escape their busy city life. When they arrive at their desolate cabin in the woods, they uncover the startling secrets from the past owners, waking their ill-fated spirits. Taking cues from films like Evil Dead and The Others, “The Evil Tree” tells a splendid winter ghost story. The awesome folks over at Top Cow Comics have teamed with BD once again to deliver a special treat for you ladies and gents. The publisher is offering up issue #1 of their hit series, Think Tank, absolutely free!

“Think Tank” is written by Top Cow veteran Matt Hawkins, with artwork from Rahsan Ekedal. The series follows the brilliant Dr. David Loren who decides he can no longer participate in creating weapons of destruction for the military. In order to escape, he’s forced to butt heads with the big boys. This is one of the most fiercely intelligent comics of the year, and it’s well worth a read. The first season of Telltale Games’ consistently amazing The Walking Dead ended with a bang last week, bringing an emotionally charged end to one of the most engaging video games I’ve played this year. That’s not it for the series, as Telltale’s confirmed they have plans for a season two and the retail bundle will be out on Dec 4th. If you haven’t had the chance to play The Walking Dead yet or are too impatient to wait for it to come to retail, boy, do I have a deal for you. The lovely folks at Telltale were generous enough to give me a few Steam season passes for The Walking Dead, and instead of keeping them all for myself, I’m going to give them all to you. Image Comics’ Top Cow branch made some major changes to their lineup earlier in 2012 with their Rebirth project. The publisher overhauled their entire catalog in order to give new readers a chance to jump into their universe. The Darkness Rebirth begins with issue #101 from the creative team of acclaimed writer David Hine and artist Jeremy Haun. Many of you will be familiar with “The Darkness” video game series, which is based on the comics. The series follows the rich and successful Jackie Estacado whose life suddenly comes crashing down as he gains control over a mysterious force known as the Darkness. The first arc of “The Darkness” is a gritty mystery filled with all kinds of horrors.

I’ve heard nothing but glowing things about William Friedkin’s Killer Joe, making it one of the only films I’m even interested in for the rest of 2012. I’m rarely disappointed with Friedkin’s work – I even have a quasi-soft spot for The Guardian, which is an entertaining mess in parts – and the fact that he’s working from script by Tracy Letts (based on his own play) makes me even more jazzed to see it.

If you live in Orlando and share my enthusiasm, you’re in luck. Bloody-Disgusting has a few GOFOBO codes for an early screening of the film at Regal Winter Park on Wednesday, August 22nd at 7:30 pm. There can never be enough post-apocalyptic games set in a labyrinthine maze of tunnels below Moscow, I always say. In case you missed it back in 2010, we’re giving away three Xbox Live codes for Metro 2033–one of the most brilliantly atmospheric survival horror games I’ve ever played. Remember the good old days when eventually Bungie would make their multiplayer maps free? Well guess what, THOSE DAYS ARE OVER. Companies want your money, and they want it bad. You know back when Nintendo and Super Nintendo were around, you could normally pay 60-100 dollars per game. Well, most games now are stuck on a 60 dollar price point. Clearly that isn’t enough. With some games you’re looking to spend at least 100 dollars over the life of the game to get all the DLC. If you have the patience you’re better off waiting for a game of the year edition or for a dramatic price drop. Well, amidst the ashes of all your wasted money, Uncharted developer Naughty Dog and Sony have decided to let you have all of the DLC for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves for free. The Fallout is coming! No, not that Fallout, the other one. The Oren Peli produced (and penned) Chernobyl Diaries is hitting theatres next Friday but if you live in Orlando, you can see it early! And for free!

Warner Bros. has provided us with one hundred passes – good for two people each – to an early screening at Regal Winter Park on Thursday, May 24th at 8:00 pm. To win, all you have to do is show up. We’ll be waiting out front of the theater starting at 6:30 pm, and will give out the passes on a first come, first served basis. Our last three screenings had turn-aways, so remember to get in line early.

Directed by Brad Parker, and starring Jonathan Sadowski, Devin Kelley, Jesse McCartney, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Nathan Phillips, Ingrid Bolso Berdal and Dimitri Diatchenko, in the film, “A group of friends become stranded in an eerie and desolate city. Very recently Microsoft and Xbox announced they would be giving you free Microsoft Space Bucks for doing different things on Xbox. Well, you don’t really get that much and you usually have to spend money to get points back. Well, online game tracking site Raptr is giving things away and all you have to do is play the games you’d be playing anyways. I actually already got a reward, I got into the Xbox 360 Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Beta. I didn’t redeem it because I don’t care, but that’s just an example of what you can get.
