I Hate These ‘Fright Night’ Character Posters

The international branch of Dreamworks has released a quartet of character posters for Fright Night 3D, their forthcoming remake of Tom Holland’s classic that arrives here in the States on August 19 (UK on September 2).

First, the one sheets look like a cross between a “True Blood” promotion and something MTV would release surrounding “Teen Wolf.” Second, does anybody give a lick that Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, Toni Collette or David Tennant star? Basically the images say nothing about the movie, and look more like cheesy collector’s cards from 1989 that came with a stale stick of gum than something professional.

Directed by Craig Gillespie, “Charlie Brewster (Yelchin) is a high school senior who’s on top of the world–that is until Jerry (Farrell) moves in next door and Charlie discovers that he is a vampire preying on the neighborhood.

Second ‘Fright Night’ Trailer Throws Heavy Jab at ‘Twilight’

MTV has premiered a second trailer from the R-rated Fright Night 3D that takes a serious jab at Summit’s Twilight franchise. It’s a low quality video that will be uploaded with HD when it becomes available. In case you missed out, you can watch the first clip here.

In the Craig Gillespie-directed remake arriving in theaters August 19, “Senior Charlie Brewster finally has it all going on: he’s running with the popular crowd and dating the most coveted girl in his high school. In fact, he’s so cool he’s even dissing his best friend. But trouble arrives when Jerry moves in next door. He seems like a great guy at first, but there’s something not quite right–but everyone, including Charlie’s mom (Toni Collette), doesn’t notice. After observing some very strange activity, Charlie comes to an unmistakable conclusion: Jerry is a vampire preying on the neighborhood. Unable to convince anyone, Charlie has to find a way to get rid of the monster himself.

A ‘Fright Night’ Shocker: MPAA Gives Redo an R-rating

We don’t typically post ratings as news stories, only when there’s something that actually comes as bit of a surprise. I would have bet the farm that a PG-13 rating was awaiting DreamWorks’ Fright Night 3D redo from director Craig Gillespie. Well I’ll be damned if I was wrong.

The MPAA has rated the 3-D horror flick “R” for “bloody horror violence and language including some sexual references.

A+

Special Feature: A Visit to the Editing Bay of ‘Fright Night 3D’!

Coming out in theaters on August 19th, Fright Night 3D is an updating of the beloved 1985 vampire movie that became a surprise box-office hit on its release over 25 years ago.

In anticipation of the film’s debut, Dreamworks recently invited B-D to visit the editing bay and view about 20 minutes of footage from the remake, which stars Anton Yelchin as Charley Brewster and Colin Farrell as mysterious next-door neighbor Jerry Dandridge, who turns out to be an unrepentant bloodsucker intent on making Charley’s life a living hell.

Afterwards B-D reporter Chris Eggertsen sat down with Yelchin and Farrell, as well as director Craig Gillespie, to get their take on comparisons to the ’85 version, Jerry’s altogether more brutal nature in the remake, and what we can expect the breakdown of practical vs. CG effects to be. Also, we learned that one of the film’s original stars (guess who?) will indeed have a cameo. See inside for the full report.

Does the Trailer for ‘Fright Night 3D’ Bite?

Inside you’ll find the first official trailer for DreamWorks’ Fright Night 3D redo from director Craig Gillespie.

Most of the footage makes me want to take this Friday the 13th and enjoy the original classic from Tom Holland, while there are some things that intrigue me. Mostly, I’m curious as to how well the battle between Carlie (played by Anton Yelchin) and Jerry (Colin Farrell) will play out. As for scares, I think we’re in for a slew of “jumps” as the hand to the glass indicates (blah!) Sh*t, I may just watch Distrubia again instead….

Fright Night

For young Charlie Brewster, nothing could be better than an old horror movie late at night. Two men move in next door, and for Charlie with his horror movie experience, there can be no doubt that their strange behavior is explained by the fact that they are a vampire and his undead day guardian. The only one who can help him hunt them down is a washed-up actor, Peter Vincent, who hosts Charlie’s favorite TV show, Fright Night. Vincent doesn’t really believe that vampires exist, but does it for the money…
