[TV] Kathy Bates To Inflict Misery Upon Jessica Lange In “American Horror Story: Season 3″

So far the casting for “American Horror Story: Season 3″ has mainly consisted of series vets coming back for another round. So it’s sort of refreshing to see some new blood make its way into the show (as much as I like the established cast). Per TVLine, Kathy Bates (Misery, Titanic) will be joining the series as a nemesis to Jessica Lange’s character, “Bates will play the best friend of Lange’s new character, who turns into her enemy.

That’s certainly in keeping with creator Ryan Murphy’s feisty remarks that this will be a female-centric season with Lange in the center as some kind of ““glamour cat leading lady.” That’s fine by me. I preferred seeing outrageous characters in normal confines in the 1st season and thought that the 2nd season suffered by providing a crazy context for its crazy characters. Let them loose, I say.

Newcomer Bates joins returning cast members Jessica Lange, Frances Conroy Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Taissa Farmiga. As previously reported, Season 3 will be more female centric and will have a love story in its dark, black and likely stunningly random, heart.

[Book Review] Chelsea Cain’s ‘Kill You Twice’

I’m sure plenty of our readers are familiar with Chelsea Cain’s series of gory psychological thrillers featuring pill-popping detective Archie Sheridan and seductive serial killer Gretchen Lowell. Sadly, I was late to the party. After stumbling across a few of her short stories earlier this year, I finally sought out Cain’s wickedly addictive series. Meanwhile, a rabid fan base has been soaking up Cain’s novels since 2008, when the first book in the series, Heartsick, was released. Cable station FX, knowing a hot commodity when they see it, recently began developing a television series based on the Sheridan/Lowell novels. The fifth book in the series, Kill You Twice, was released on August 7 from Minotaur Books. I tore through it like butter. Existing fans will not be disappointed, and new fans…well, now you’ve got another entry to look forward to. The full review follows. READ MORE

TV: FX To Recast, Reshoot “Powers” Pilot

FX hasn’t pulled the plug on the Sony TV-produced “Powers” as originally reported.

Variety reports that the cabler’s adaptation of the comic book series has been a long and arduous process, but the network said it isn’t writing the project off.

A pilot was shot last year but rejected by FX topper John Landgraf, who asked scribe Charles “Chick” Eglee for a rewrite. The network had plans to do a complete reshoot of the pilot — complete with a completely new cast — but those plans have not gone forward and there is no immediate start date to put it back in front of the camera, says the site.

Jason Patric and Lucy Punch, who co-stars in the new Fox sitcom “Ben and Kate,” were in the original cast. Others in the ensemble were Charles S. Dutton, Titus Welliver and Carly Foulkes.

The comic, from writers Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, “centers on a pair of cops who investigate crimes perpetrated by those with superhuman qualities.READ MORE

TV: FX Gets Serial Killer ‘Heartsick’

FX has put in development a drama series adaptation of Chelsea Cain’s best-selling book series “Heartsick,” reports Deadline. Mikko Alanne (5 Days Of War) is set to write the series adaptation. The thriller novels, “Heartsick,” “Sweetheart” and “Evil At Heart,” “Center on beautiful therapist-turned-series killer Gretchen Lowell and her relationship with damaged Portland detective Archie Sheridan.

Here’s Amazon’s synopsis: “Damaged Portland detective Archie Sheridan spent ten years tracking Gretchen Lowell, a beautiful serial killer, but in the end she was the one who caught him. Two years ago, Gretchen kidnapped Archie and tortured him for ten days, but instead of killing him, she mysteriously decided to let him go. She turned herself in, and now Gretchen has been locked away for the rest of her life, while Archie is in a prison of another kind—addicted to pain pills, unable to return to his old life, powerless to get those ten horrific days off his mind. Archie’s a different person, his estranged wife says, and he knows she’s right. He continues to visit Gretchen in prison once a week, saying that only he can get her to confess as to the whereabouts of more of her victims, but even he knows the truth—he can’t stay away.

When another killer begins snatching teenage girls off the streets of Portland, Archie has to pull himself together enough to lead the new task force investigating the murders. A hungry young newspaper reporter, Susan Ward, begins profiling Archie and the investigation, which sparks a deadly game between Archie, Susan, the new killer, and even Gretchen. They need to catch a killer, and maybe somehow then Archie can free himself from Gretchen, once and for all. Either way, Heartsick makes for one of the most extraordinary suspense debuts in recent memory.

TV: Zachary Quinto Becomes American Horror Story Season 2 Nemesis!

While it’s been reported about 3,200 times that Jessica Lange will return in FX’s second season of “American Horror Story,” Deadline has the scoop on the first of a handful of returning cast members.

Like Lange, he will play a brand new character next season, which is set at an East Coast institution. With ten episodes come and gone (last night’s was a shocker!) FX’s “American Horror Story” has catapulted into the near top of my list for the best horror in 2011. After an abysmal season premiere, the series by “Glee” creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk has transformed into a plot thick, intense and captivating haunted house series jam-packed with scares, shocks and plenty of gore. I haven’t been this immersed into a series since “Lost” way back when.

With only one episodes left until the hour and a half season finale, FX has previewed episode 01.11, “Birth”, which begins when Vivien (Connie Britton) gives birth, while Tate (Evan Peters) and Violet (Taissa Farmiga) attempt to rid the house of some of its ghosts for good.

The next episode will air next Wednesday, December 14 only on FX. Talk below, tell us what you think of the first season thus far. Is it meeting your expectations too? READ MORE
