Two mysterious women seek refuge in a run-down coastal resort. Clara (Gemma Arterton) meets lonely Noel, who provides shelter in his deserted guesthouse, Byzantium. Schoolgirl Eleanor befriends Frank and tells him their lethal secret. They were born 200 years ago and survive on human blood. As knowledge of their secret spreads, their past catches up on them with deathly consequence.
Arriving on VOD and in limited theaters June 28 is Neil Jordan’s Byzantium, which was acquired by IFC Films out of the Toronto International Film Festival. I loved the last trailer and this new clip takes a subdued look at the film, still digging the tone though.
Starring Gemma Arterton, Saoirse Ronan, Caleb Landry Jones, Danny Mays, Bradley James, Sam Riley, Jonny Lee Miller and Tom Hollander, the pic is about a pair of women who claim to be vampire siblings.
“On the run for murder, two young “sisters” arrive penniless at an English seaside town. Clara is a fiercely modern woman who has her eyes on the future and no time for the past. Teenager Eleanor is shy and innocent. Yet they both hide the same secrets: they are really mother and daughter, and they are both … vampires!” READ MORE
Arriving on VOD and in limited theaters June 28 is Neil Jordan’s Byzantium, which was acquired by IFC Films out of the Toronto International Film Festival. A new UK quad has hit with some rather glowing praise, with one blurb in particular claiming it’s the best vampire film since Let The Right One In (I’ve got an open mind, but we’ll see about that).

Arriving on VOD and in limited theaters June 28 is Neil Jordan’s Byzantium, which was acquired by IFC Films out of the Toronto International Film Festival. A new trailer has hit – and a really dig it! It doesn’t seem like a terribly new take on vampires, but it does seem like a take that we haven’t seen in a long time. Classic, regal, sexy, bloody and stately. It’s sort of like the international trailer we had a few months back, but I like this version more.

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced DVD, Blu-ray/DVD Combo, and 3D Blu-ray releases of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (review) for June 11, reports DVD Active. No extra material will be included on the DVD release. The Blu-ray releases will include 3 featurettes (“Reinventing Hansel & Gretel”, “The Witching Hours”, “Meet Edward the Troll”), and a digital copy of the film.
“The sly and ingeniously wicked movie tells the story of the brother and sister team seeking to avenge their parents’ deaths. But after a lifetime of hunting witches, Hansel and Gretel now must face an evil greater than anything they’ve seen: a terrifying new threat so massive, it could destroy the world as we know it.”

Now in theaters everywhere is Dead Snow director Tommy Wirkola’s Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, which stars Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen, Ingrid Bolso Berdal, Thomas Mann, Derek Mears and Peter Stormare. In the film, after getting a taste for blood as children, Hansel (Renner) and Gretel (Arterton) have become the ultimate vigilantes, hell bent on retribution. Now, unbeknownst to them, Hansel and Gretel have become the hunted, and must face an evil far greater than witches…their past.
Not screened for critics, Jonny attended the midnight screening of the fun 3-D re-imagining of the classic fairy tale. As the film progressed, he loved it more and more:
“At the start of the movie, I was expecting a waste of my time. By the middle, I found myself with a grin on my face. By the end, I was hoping that there would be a sequel. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters isn’t a movie meant to scare or make you think but it is one of the most entertaining and enjoyable movies of its kind that I’ve seen in years.” Check out the review in its entirety here.

Paramount Pictures will move Dead Snow director Tommy Wirkola’s Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters to January 25, 2013 in order to get the film on IMAX screens.
Starring Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton and Famke Janssen, the footage looks crazy cheesy, but also crazy fun. We can only hope that this makes right what happened with the lame Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I totally dig these original retellings and want more.
In theaters January 11, 2013, “15 years after their traumatic gingerbread-house incident, siblings Hansel and Gretel have become a formidable team of bounty hunters who track and kill witches all over the world.” READ MORE
Neil Jordan’s Byzantium, a vampire film starring Gemma Arterton, Sam Riley and Saoirse Ronan premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival this week and IFC has made it their first official pick-up fo the fest, paying something close to $2M for the rights.
Per THR, “Sources say it was IFC’s $2 million offer that drew blood.Heading into Toronto, ‘Byzantium’ was on every buyer’s list, both small and large. However, bigger distributors passed on the film, which is receiving mixed reviews. Also, no one was sure how commerical Byzantium would be, considering Jordan’s arthouse pedigree.”
