Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance 3D - 19

Will Marvel’s ‘Blade’ or ‘Ghost Rider’ Return?

It’s sort of a shame to see the Blade franchise whimper away like it did. It’s even more of a disappointment that both Ghost Rider films were terrible. Marvel hopes to bring both characters back in the near future; could the success of their newly minted franchises help them get it right? I’d think so…

In a massive article in EW, Marvel chief Kevin Feige stated that both Blade and Ghost Rider could eventually return to action.

Whenever a character comes back to us, it’s usually because because the other studios don’t want to make the movies anymore — and that usually means the [previous] movies have not been well-received,” Feige tells the magazine. “They all have potential, but we’re not going to say, ‘We got it back — make it!’

Which character would you prefer to see back first? I’m going to guess Blade? Holy crap the first two movies are still amazingREAD MORE

Nicolas Cage’s ‘Ghost Rider’ Skull Flames Out

After nearing financial ruin, star Nicolas Cage appeared to say “yes” to any movie that was offered to him. Some hit, some miss, but the market appeared to be over saturated with the multi-talented actor. So, it comes as a shock that Cage won’t be returning to the Ghost Rider franchise, which resulted in the 2007 adaptation of the Marvel comic, as well as its sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

Personally, I’m done,” he told MTV. “I’ve done what I had to do with that part. You never say never, but right now, today, I would say that I’m done.

He’s at least proud of the film, predicated you believe success is based on dollars. “Contrary to whatever the perception is, that was an enormously successful movie,” he said. “We made it for, like, $47 or $48 million dollars, and it approached $200 million. I view that as a success. I think people need to know we did that on a shoestring budget. When you look at it that way you see the enormous talent of Mark Neveldine and Bryan Taylor, that they were able to accomplish that.

The movie still sucks, dude.

Although he did end on a smart note: “It would be interesting if they did it with a female Ghost Rider.

We end with the question: could Cage finally be in a good place, or has his contract just ended? Most lead actors are signed on for a film’s sequel, if not multiple sequels. His exit may not be his choice, but it’s the right choice. READ MORE

[OMFG] Read Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier’s Unused Pitch For ‘Ghost Rider 2′!

[OMFG] Read Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussiers Unused Pitch For Ghost Rider 2!

Columbia Pictures’ Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance 3D has been critically panned so bad that by the time it hit theaters many thought it was so-so. But the real fun of a film finally getting released is wondering what could have been, especially when it’s well-known that other talented filmmakers were nearly involved. Such the case with Todd Farmer, the writer of My Bloody Valentine, Jason X and Drive Angry 3D. The screenwriter took to his personal blog (one that I highly recommend subscribing to) where he revealed his treatment for the Marvel comic book sequel.

During one of our many meetings, [Michael] De Luca, who had produced ‘Ghost Rider,’ suggested we [Farmer and Patrick Lussier] come up with a pitch for ‘Ghost Rider 2.’ We said yes with much enthusiasm. So Mike set a meeting with Avi Arad that we might meet and discuss the franchise,” he explains. “When we returned we were pumped. We had nailed it. It may seem arrogant to say that but DUH. Isn’t that the point? Why would you ever go back if you didn’t think you nailed it?” He continues: “We knew De Luca dug it. Later we heard that Sony loved it. But in the end Avi passed. He said it was too violent. Hate not getting the job but I’ll take TOO VIOLENT as the reason any day of the week.

Want to read the pitch? Eh? I bet you do! Click here to download the treatment and then tell us what you think! READ MORE

[Interview]: Mark Neveldine & Brian Taylor Talk ‘Ghost Rider 2′, Punk Rock Filmmaking, ‘Crank 3′ And What Happened To ‘Jonah Hex’!

NeveldineTaylor21412 [Interview]: Mark Neveldine & Brian Taylor Talk Ghost Rider 2, Punk Rock Filmmaking, Crank 3 And What Happened To Jonah Hex!

While you’ll have to wait until Friday for my full review of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance 3D, I’ll at the very least tell you that it has little in common with its predecessor aside from the title and the casting of Nicolas Cage. It’s a completely different aesthetic, so much so that the film is almost in a different genre than the first one.

Most of that has to do with Directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Crank, Gamer, Crank 2). Working from a script by David Goyer, they fashion the franchise into something that is unmistakably their own.

In the successor to the worldwide hit ‘Ghost Rider,’ Johnny – still struggling with his curse as the devil’s bounty hunter – is hiding out in a remote part of Eastern Europe when he is recruited by a secret sect of the church to save a young boy (Fergus Riordan) from the devil (Ciaran Hinds). At first, Johnny is reluctant to embrace the power of the Ghost Rider, but it is the only way to protect the boy – and possibly rid himself of his curse forever.

I recently had a chance to sit down with the two collaborators in a New York City hotel room for a chat over coffee. Their enthusiasm and love for what they do is readily apparent and the conversation flowed freely from the new film to their take on what may have happened with the troubled Jonah Hex to Crank 3, which they hope to have in theaters next year.

Ghost Rider 2: Spirit Of Vengeance 3D hits theaters on February 17th. It stars Nicolas Cage, Ciaran Hinds, Violante Placido, Idris Elba and Johnny Whitworth.

IdrisElbaInterview21412 [Interview]: Idris Elba Talks Ghost Rider 2, Prometheus And The Pacific Rim!

Idris Elba has a ton of fun in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance 3D and it shows. In fact, he’s able to bring enough crazy to go toe-to-toe with Nic Cage in a Neveldine/Taylor film. As the drunken, French, priest “Moreau” he chews scenery in all the right ways. It’s quite a change-up from the majority of his work, which is subtle and more grounded. Here, you can just tell he’s having a blast.

Comics Community Gathers To Help Gary Friedrich

As most of you have heard by now, Gary Friedrich, the creator of the beloved Ghost Rider is being sued by Marvel Comics. Gary has been given a hefty $17,000 bill to be paid to the corporation. Comic fans and creators alike have been banding together over the past week in order to help Gary and his family in their time of need.

Obviously, this is an important time for creator rights in comics, it seems more and more lawsuits are arising every day. The feuds between fellow creators, corporations, and publishers are stemming up all over the place. While it seems that it is time for a change, that will not happen over night. Please see more links below. You can donate to Gary here.

Columbia Pictures has released a new clip from Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance 3D, this time using the footage to introduce Nicolas Cage as one Ghost Rider. The clip features what’s probably the film’s first look at the blazing Marvel comics icon and his motorcycle.

Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance 3D, which Columbia Pictures is releasing on February 17, is upping the octane in terms of the amount of footage they’re showing.

This newest clip shows Idris Elba’s character, Moreau, engaging in some motorcycle hijinks of his very own. I guess Nic Cage isn’t supposed to be the only badass in the film.

It has been several years since making a deal with the Devil and Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage), living in self-imposed isolation, finds himself as the only person who can help save 10-year-old Danny – and ultimately the world – thanks to his unwanted and uncontrollable power – his ability to transform into the hell-on-wheels monster known as The Ghost Rider.

An Early Look At Two Clips From ‘Ghost Rider’ Sequel

It’s hard to keep an open mind when everyone is literally bashing Columbia Pictures’ rushed sequel, Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance, opening in theaters February 17 from directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor.

Taking the PR overseas, star Nicolas Cage stopped by Italian talk show “Che tempo che fa” to share two clips from the Marvel comic adaptation. You’ll find both clips at the 8:20 and 16:20 marks (with the second in Italian). Do either pique your interest?

Word out of the screening – from an audience predisposed to like the film – was absolutely horrific, with apparently only Harry Knowles and a well regarded performer from the upcoming Looper liking the film.

This trailer keeps the momentum going that we’ve seen in the press materials so far, but the word is that the film utterly betrays the promise its shown so far in every conceivable way.

Sweet ‘Ghost Rider’ One Sheet Blazes In, Hype Fizzles Out…

Sweet Ghost Rider One Sheet Blazes In, Hype Fizzles Out...

This morning Columbia Pictures released the super sweet one sheet for Crank directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (in theaters February 17, 2012), which is basically the exact same thing as the previously displayed theater standee.

But that’s not the story. This beautiful piece of art is overshadowed by this past weekend’s rash of online negativity after the studio screened the film at BNAT in Austin, Texas. The result? Negative is an understatement…

GHOST RIDER 2 makes GHOST RIDER 1 look like DARK KNIGHT,” said Jordan Hoffman. Our friend Devin Faraci from BadassDigest tweeted, “GHOST RIDER 2 manages to make me look fondly back on GHOST RIDER. Unbearable.” Peter Sciretta from /Film added, “SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE is better than the first film, and the character design is drastically improved. Unfortunately the script is a boring mess, the film lacks a proper budget and the post converted 3D looks pretty horrible compared to films like HUGO.

BURNED. Pun intended. I guess it’s a good thing Sony rushed to make this sequel so the rights didn’t revert back to Marvel. Way to look out for the fans… READ MORE

‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’ Standee an Assault on Your Senses

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance Standee an Assault on Your Senses

The main thing I miss about theaters in the ’90s was how I’d walk through the lobby before a movie checking out all of the cool new posters and standees. I’m not sure how it is by you guys, but in Los Angeles most theaters cater to local business instead of upcoming movies, so I don’t get that experience a whole lot, but all I know is that I’d love to have seen the new Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance standee at a theater near me.

As displayed below, it boasts a full image of the darker and grittier Ghost Rider, played again by Nicolas Cage (but actually a bunch of people behind a computer screen with a mouse).

Four Artistic Takes On ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’ Poster!

Four Artistic Takes On Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance Poster!

Quite similar to the ones on display at the San Diego Comic-Con this past July, Columbia Pictures has released a handful of rustic one sheets for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. The artistic interpretations can be enjoyed after the break.

Arriving in a blaze of fury on February 17, 2012, Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor direct this time around and have apparently delivered something much more gritty than its predecessor. As I previously stated, this charred-up and spit out version of Ghost Rider looks beyond rad, while maintaining that comic book atmosphere.
