[DVD Review] ‘Sinister’ Is Flawed

Upon first inspection, Sinister appears to be a scary, complex film. After mulling about it in one’s mind, it can easily be torn apart quite quickly. The plot revolves around Ellison Oswalt (Ethan Hawke), a true crime writer, who continuously hauls his family across the United States in order to write his next best seller. This time he has moved his own family into a house where the murder of another happened. The family were hanged from the tree in the backyard, with a daughter never being found. The twist in this film comes when Oswalt finds a box of 8mm films in the attic – each detailing a sickening murder of a family. READ MORE

[DVD Review] ‘Ghoul’ is a Fun TV Movie

Reviewed by Patrick Cooper

Put the kids to bed, pal, because this ain’t your regular made for TV coming of age movie! Ghoul, produced by the Chiller network, is the rare kinda film that’s about a group of kids and actually treats them with respect. They’re fully formed characters dealing with real-world problems that’ll quickly age any kid. And as if their miserable home lives weren’t reason enough to go grey at age 12, there’s something in their little rural neighborhood that’s killing people. READ MORE

Chiller’s ‘Ghoul’ Dated For Home Video From Image Entertainment

Image Entertainment presents Ghoul (read our review) on DVD and digital download January 8, 2013. Directed by Gregory Wilson (The Girl Next Door), Ghoul stars Nolan Gould (“Modern Family,” Friends with Benefits), Andrea Frankle (21 Jump Street), Mattie Liptak (The Odd Life of Timothy Green), Glen Warner (Django Unchained), Zach Rand (The Woman), Brett Lapeyrouse (21 Jump Street) and Barry Corbin (No Country for Old Men, “The Closer”).

In the film, “Something ghastly haunts Golgotha Cemetery – an entity of unspeakable evil…and insatiable hunger. It is the summer of 1984, a time that should be full of lazy, carefree days for 12-year-old Timmy (Gould) and his two best friends, Doug and Barry. But when a teenaged couple goes missing among the gravestones of the local cemetery, the bloodcurdling legend of a horrific ghoul begins to seem more like reality than myth. As the body count rises, Timmy and his friends are forced to confront their worst fears when they unearth long-buried secrets and unleash not only their personal demons…but also the one lurking underground!”

Ghoul is based on the eponymous novel from the multi-award winning, best-selling horror writer Brian Keene, the man who helped re-introduce the Zombie sub-genre into literature with his groundbreaking book “The Rising.” READ MORE

[Slamdance '12] Review: ‘Ghoul’ An Above-Par Adaptation With An Unusually Rich Plot!

GhoulLand12412 [Slamdance 12] Review: Ghoul An Above Par Adaptation With An Unusually Rich Plot!

Chiller TV’s made-for-TV production, Ghoul, premiered last week at the Slamdance Film Festival. Yesterday we announced that it had an air date for Friday, April 13th. And today we have a review!

John Marrone writes in from Slamdance, “As so often explored by Moderncine creations such as ‘The Girl Net Door’, ‘Offspring’, or ‘The Woman’ – what worse beast is there, than man? Genre crawlers looking to see a corpse eating beast or rape scenes in the tunnels beneath the graveyard should take note – this is not a hard-R film… With children engaging problems that would traumatize adults, and an acoustically driven soundtrack by Sean Spillane, Ghoul feels very much like a less offensive version of something between ‘The Woman’ and ‘The Girl Next Door’.

GWAR Announce ‘Return Of The Maggot Tour’

gwarrotmtourmat GWAR Announce Return Of The Maggot Tour
GWAR has announced that they will be hitting the road again this spring on the Return Of The Maggot Tour! Support will come from Municipal Waste and Ghoul with Legacy of Disorder joining the tour in Boston. The band will be touring as a four-piece. Tour dates can be seen below.
Dave Brockie (a.k.a. Oderus Urungus) had this to say: ”All the years of doing GWAR could never have prepared us for what we have been through, and I want to thank the metal community and the extended GWAR family for all of your support. Finishing that last tour was the hardest thing we have ever had to do, and we still have about half of the country left to hit. We will continue as a four-piece, with the special tribute to Flattus at the end of the show, in order to give our fans a chance to say goodbye to our fallen Scumdog brother in true GWAR fashion-covered in blood and rocking the fuck out! After this tour is over we can start looking to the future and begin to put this tragedy behind us. But for now we are still in “Hail Flattus” mode!”

GWAR Announce ‘Return Of The World Maggot’ Tour

Without fail, GWAR put on what is possibly the most fun concert I’ve ever been to. I came in wearing a white shirt and left red, blue and purple. I was covered in blood and god knows what other fluids they decided to spray on the crowd. Plus, Devildriver had just opened up, so the crowd was already having a total blast.

Fast forward to today and GWAR has announced a fall tour entitled Return Of The World Maggot, which will feature openers Every Time I Die, Warbeast, and Ghoul. I won’t be able to make the Detroit show because I’m already seeing Opeth that night, but you should definitely go if you’re in the area! Check out the tour dates after the jump!
