The Overlook Hotel (Shining Prequel)
Prequel to Stanley Kubrick’s ‘The Shining.’
Prequel to Stanley Kubrick’s ‘The Shining.’
The thriller is about an epidemic of random violence in which ordinary people strike lethally without warning or remorse.
Society is rocked by a sudden increase in the number of violent assaults on individuals. Christened ‘Haters’ by the media, the attackers strike without warning. Their attacks are brutal, remorseless and extreme. There are no apparent links between the Haters or their victims and no obvious reason for their violence. In seconds rational, controlled people become vicious killers. Everyone – irrespective of race, gender, age, sexuality or any other imaginable difference – has the potential to become either a Hater or a victim. This is a terror which knows no boundaries. You can no longer trust anyone, no matter how well you think you know them. You can no longer trust yourself. By the end of today you could be a killer. By the end of today you could be dead.
Get ready for The Overlook Hotel.
Back in July, we featured this blurb from The LA Times, “ “Warner Bros.is quietly exploring the possibility of a prequel to “The Shining,” The studio has solicited the involvement of Hollywood writer-producer Laeta Kalogridis and her partners Bradley Fischer and James Vanderbilt to craft a new take as producers, according to a person familiar with the project who was not authorized to talk about it publicly… The film would focus on what happened before Jack Torrance (of course played memorably onscreen by Jack Nicholson), his wife and their psychic son arrived at the haunted retreat where Torrance soon descends into violent madness. ”
Turns out they were dead-on. It’s been announced today that former “Walking Dead” showrunner Glen Mazzara is the likely candidate to write Overlook Hotel for the studio. Per Deadline, “Glen Mazzara, who ran AMC’s smash hit series The Walking Dead for the past several seasons, will now focus on ghosts. He’s in talks to write The Overlook Hotel, a prequel to the Stanley Kubrick-directed The Shining, based on the Stephen King novel.”
Personally, if this has to happen, I dig the idea of them doing a story about the hotel rather than a Torrance family origin story. What about you?
Airing tomorrow. Sunday, March 31 is the season finale of “The Walking Dead”, episode 316 “Welcome to the Tombs.” I figured this would be as good of an occasion as any to post my interview with star Dallas Roberts who plays Milton Mamet on the show. We talked about the longterm effects of being on “The Walking Dead” and how the cast reacted to switching showrunners from Glen Mazzara to Scott Gimple for the upcoming fourth season.
“In the ongoing third season, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his fellow survivors continue to seek refuge in a desolate and post-apocalyptic world and soon discover that there are greater forces to fear than just the walking dead. The struggle to survive has never been so perilous. Season 3 also introduced new characters, including the Governor (David Morrissey) and fan-favorite Michonne (Danai Gurira), along with her zombie pets.”
The show was recently renewed for its fourth season. Head inside to see if Roberts can talk about it! READ MORE
Season 4 of AMC’s “The Walking Dead“ commences production in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, May 6th. The current Season 3 is a high water mark for the historically spotty show in terms of both ratings and quality, so naturally more than a few folks are curious about the recent decision to replace the responsible showrunner, Glen Mazzara, with Scott M. Gimple (who may be even better – who knows).
Paleyfest, an annual event that offers some pretty great panels and roundtables with cast and creatives from various TV shows, held its “Walking Dead” event this past Friday and, per EW, there were some pretty interesting revelations about Season 4.

As we mentioned earlier, AMC announced today that the cast and crew of “The Walking Dead“ return to Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, May 6th to begin production on season four. Season 3 is currently about to wrap up, but it’s also considered the strongest run in the series to date. And it’s certainly the highest rated, which is why it’s a bit of a mystery that showrunner Glen Mazzara is leaving and handing the reigns over to Scott M. Gimple.
While Gimple has been a writer on the show for years, it’s still a shocking move that caught many off guard. Luckily Scenestr caught up with Mazzara and got quite a few quotes that shed some light on the situation and what it means for the (already written) 4th season of “The Walking Dead.”

I’m so far behind on Season 3 of “The Walking Dead“. I know Brad didn’t care for last week’s episode, “The Suicide King.” I didn’t hear much from you guys on it though, what did you think? And was episode 3.10 (“Home”) any better?
Now we’ve got a few teasers for next week’s Episode 3.11, “I Ain’t A Judas”: “Rick and the group contemplate their next move after their security has been compromised, while Andrea becomes uncomfortable with the changes under way in Woodbury. ” We’ve also got a behind the scenes recap of “Home” as well.
Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics, “The Walking Dead” tells the story of the months and years that follow after a zombie apocalypse. It follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe and secure home. While you’re tuned into AMC later this week watching the back half of “The Walking Dead“ season three (premiering Sunday, February 10 at 9pm ET), you can start salivating over this DVD/Blu-ray box set many of you will eventually buy.
There’s a rundown of the box over at MTV and the whole thing seems pretty cool and very unique. It’s based on The Governor’s custom TV set-up and apparently even requires water. The whole thing was created in conjunction with Robert Kirkman, Todd McFarlane and AMC and features five decapitated zombie heads floating in water.
Kirkman says, “McFarlane has a very intimate relationship with AMC, so I was approving concepts on this Blu-Ray case before Season Three even aired. So while we were building things on set, Todd and the team at McFarlane Toys were coming in and scanning actors and scanning props. So having them come in and do the fish tank with the severed heads while we were still building it for the show is a pretty cool thing, and I think makes these products much more accurate and cooler for the fans.”
There’s no release date for the set as of yet, but you can bet we’ll keep you posted. Head inside to check out some images! READ MORE

AMC’s “The Walking Dead“ returns in February to finish up its third season and will kick things off with 03.09 “The Suicide King”. The third promo video for the episode has just surfaced and it looks pretty intense!
In this season’s back-half, “With his group in tatters, his sanity in question, and his own son questioning his every move, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) must somehow pull everyone together to face their greatest challenge — the Governor (David Morrissey). In order to survive, he must risk everything, including the group’s very humanity.”
You’ll also recall that just a month or two back showrunner Glen Mazzara left the program. This news was somewhat disconcerting seeing as he seemed to be one of the folks instrumental in revitalizing the show. Now Variety is reporting that series writer Scott Gimple is in talks to take over. Gimple wrote such episodes as “Hounded” and “18 Miles Out”. He also has a credit on Ghost Rider 2: Spirit Of Vengeance, but who knows how much of that he’s actually responsible for.
