Michigan progressive metal band The Omega Experiment has signed to Listenable Records, the record label that saw the beginning careers of such bands as Gojira, Soilwork, Textures, and more. The band’s debut album (review) will be re-released in late-February/early-March 2013. A sophomore album is in the process of being recorded.

The band’s debut EP was praised by Devin Townsend and their self-titled full length was mastered by TesseracT‘s Acle Kahney. READ MORE

Let’s Talk The Grammy 2013 Rock Nominations, Shall We?

The official 2013 Grammy nominations list has been released and, as per usual, it takes the opportunity to laud and celebrate what the radios and mass media have been shoving down our throats for the past year (thank god we can use mp3 players and dictate what we want to listen to, right?). Now, I basically just completely ignored the vast majority of categories and immediately scanned down to find the four categories that interested me: Best Rock Performance, Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance, Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Album. And what I found was pretty…well, it was pretty confusing. READ MORE

Gojira To Embark On Their First N. American Headline Tour This Winter

French extreme metal band Gojira has announced a full N. American touring schedule for this winter, beginning in mid-January and ending in mid-February. Support will come from The Devin Townsend Project as well as The Atlas Moth. VIP pre-sale will begin Tuesday, October 23 at 3PM local time, with public onsales to follow on Friday, October 26. Those who pre-order tickets before Dec. 1st will receive a free download of two live tracks: “Toxic Garbage” and “Love”, both of which were recorded at the August 2012 Webster Hall show in NYC. You will also receive a download of a full show from their current European tour. All tour dates are below.

Let me just say that I’m pretty peeved that they’re not making it through Michigan. Considering that DTP is supporting, there’s a damn good chance that they might perform “Of Blood And Salt“, which would just blow my mind. And I’m positive that right before they hit the first notes of that song, Meshuggah‘s Fredrik Thordendal would come riding in on a white horse, magical sunbeams shining behind him as his hair flows mystically. He wouldn’t dismount the horse, oh no. Rather, he would just float down, arms gently spread, a soft smile upon his face. A guitar would apparate around his neck and, suddenly, everything comes crashing down as the song begins. Seriously, I have $20 down that this will happen at one of the shows.

Lamb Of God Announce Fall Headline Tour

Lamb Of God has announced the first full headline tour since Randy Blythe’s incarceration and subsequent release from a Czech Republic prison. Direct support will come from In Flames while Hatebreed will tour from Oct. 30th through Nov. 19th at which point Hellyeah will take over the remaining tour dates. Sylosis has been confirmed as the opening act on all dates. This will be LoG’s first US tour in support of their album Resolution (review).

While I’m still a bit disappointed that the LoG/Dethklok/Gojira tour wasn’t able to take place, I’m pretty thrilled with this lineup! I’ve seen Lamb of God twice as well as In Flames twice and they both put on one hell of a show.

For full touring schedule, check out the dates below. READ MORE

Lamb Of God/Dethklok/Gojira Tour Officially Cancelled

I feel like I kinda jinxed things in yesterday’s article about Randy Blythe where I stated that there was still no word on whether or not the Lamb Of God/Dethklok/Gojira tour was pushing forward. I was still harboring a completely unrealistic hope that the tour would continue, even if it had to reschedule the first few dates. Alas, that is not going to happen as word has broken that the tour is now officially cancelled.

Per LoG’s PR: “The band regrets the decision but the uncertainty of Randy’s release makes it impossible to carry on with the tour. Upon Randy’s release, it is the band’s intention to rebook a tour in the fall and at this time the band fully intends to participate in the Mayhem Cruise in December.

They also add, “Lamb Of God wishes to thank Dethklok, Adult Swim and Gojira for their support and patience as well as all of the promoters who had dates on the tour. Last but certainly not least, the band thanks all of the fans who bought tickets for the tour and who have been supportive of Randy and the band over the last month that Randy has been held in Prague. Without the fans, there is no LAMB OF GOD.READ MORE

Lamb Of God’s Randy Blythe Denied Bail Once Again

More bad news for Randy Blythe, Lamb of God, and fans around the world as the singer has once again been denied release after posting $400,000 in bail. Blythe has been sitting in jail for over a month in Prague as he faces manslaughter charges stemming from the death of a concert goer in 2010.

In the United States, when someone posts bail, they are free to leave jail. Apparently this is not the case in Czech Republic. Rather, a prosecutor can detain the defendant while they issue a formal protest. In this situation, the prosecution issued the challenge a day after bail was posted. The lawyer will have to meet with the judge on Friday (July 27th) to explain their reasons. The judge will then have five days to deliberate on the reasoning and another five days to post a decision. So we’re looking at a possible Aug. 6th date at the earliest (this is if they don’t take into account “business days”). READ MORE

[Album Review] Gojira ‘The Flesh Alive’ Live DVD/CD

The rise of Gojira is nothing short of meteoric and wonderful. Hailing from Bayonne, France, this extreme metal band, who brilliantly blends technicality with melody, has garnered world wide praise with each of their releases. Interest spread so far and grew so large that Metallica had them as support for much of their late 2009 tour. They were once again invited to join Metallica during their European tour. This was all an opportunity for them to support their (at the time) newly released album The Way Of All Flesh.

All of this is the focus of Gojira’s latest live DVD, The Flesh Alive. Featuring two full concerts, three songs from another, and a 62-minute documentary, this DVD aims to give viewers a chance to enter the world of one of France’s heaviest and most fascinating bands. But does it succeed or leave the viewer feeling cheated? READ MORE

UPDATE: Lamb Of God’s Randy Blythe Arrested For Manslaughter

UPDATE: Lamb of God’s press team has stated that no formal charges against Randy Blythe have been made and that the case is still in the investigation stages. Management also wants to clarify the “altercation” that occurred in 2010. According to them, a fan jumped the barricade at the concert three times in an attempt to rush at Randy. On the third occasion security was unable to reach this fan in time. Randy pushed the fan back into the audience where, supposedly, he fell and hit his head. The investigation is apparently set to conclude this weekend and a formal statement will be issued on Monday.

According to the Czech news site Novinky, Lamb of God singer Randy Blythe has been arrested for manslaughter in the Czech Republic. The band was supposed to perform a show in Prague with All Shall Perish and Skeletonwitch but Blythe was detained by police immediately upon arrival, forcing the show’s cancellation. The details are still uncertain but it seems that Blythe got involved in an on-stage altercation with a fan back in 2010. The fan later died from his injuries.

A spokesperson for Lamb of God has stated that they believe Blythe is wrongly accused and they expect full exoneration. They also say that their lawyers are working on this.

Lamb of God will (hopefully) be touring alongside Dethklok and Gojira this summer. All details can be found here. You can also check out my review for their latest album, Resolution, here. READ MORE

[Album Review] Gojira ‘L’Enfant Sauvage’

Hailing from Bayonne, France, Gojira have been carving a name in the progressive metal world for several years. Blending technical aspects with epic, yet understated melodies, the band has created a unique sound, one that is ferocious and brutal yet far more accessible than most of the genres fare. Now, with their latest offering, L’Enfant Sauvage, the band will offer their sound to a much larger audience, thanks in part to their signing to Roadrunner Records. But is this album a step forward for the band? Read on for the review. READ MORE
