[Special Report] The Set Of ‘Evil Dead’ Is Violent, Chaotic And Bloody As Hell… PART ONE!

Last summer I spent two days in Auckland, New Zealand to check out the set of TriStar and FilmDistrict’s upcoming Evil Dead remake. I’m not going to mince words here, I have never walked away from a set this confident and hopeful that a movie will turn out well. With a lot of these visits you get the feeling that people are just fort of putting on their best face to meet you, and you’re not entirely convinced of their commitment to making a great movie.

Not here. Fede Alvarez is not f*cking around. Neither is producer Rob Tapert. Nor are Robert Gillies (the production designer) or Roger Murray (the prosthetics and props maker). The film’s DP, Aaron Morton, isn’t f*cking around either when it comes to getting those crazy roving tree shots we love so much. And the cast? Enduring all of the prosthetics, pain and hundreds of gallons of blood? Not f*cking around.

I’m not talking about a bunch of disinterested dilettantes talking about “how much they love the project.” I’m talking about seeing the bloody proof of it firsthand. I’m not just talking about the scenes we witnessed, but the messy aftermath of everything they’d been shooting up until that point. You just can’t fake a production like this for two days while press is around.

Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Elizabeth Blackmore, Lou Taylor Pucci and Jessica Lucas star in the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film. It hits theaters on April 12th, 2013 but you can read PART ONE of our set visit right now… READ MORE

Finally!!! The Official Trailer For The ‘Evil Dead’ Remake!!!

We got a shaky, blurry look at Fede Alvarez’s hotly anticipated Evil Dead remake earlier this month. While it was blurry and shaky due to its bootleg nature it revealed one thing – that the film will be supremely gory!!! And now, we have a clear look at the film. Bonus? Still super gory! And it uses the low-roving shots that we all know and love. Despite the more polished look, it feels very much like an Evil Dead movie to me. Specifically the first one, where it was five people and it wasn’t just about Ash!

In the remake starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, Jessica Lucas and Bruce Campbell, “Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Check out the official website and Facebook page. The Book of the Dead is opened on April 12, 2013. Head inside for the trailer! But beware – it’s red band. Might be too gory for your workplace! READ MORE

12 New Images From The Insanely Gory ‘Dredd 3D’!

The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and director Pete Travis bring Dredd back to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film. Filmed in 3D with stunning slow motion photography sequences, the film returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.

Seriously, I missed this screening at Comic-Con by a hair and instantly regretted it once I spoke to those who had attended. Everyone was praising the balls on this thing, how it didn’t flinch or shy away from any of the violence implicit in the character.

And now we’ve got 12 new images, courtesy of Geek Tyrant. Sort of a hodgepodge of banners, stills and scans. Dredd splatters on screens September 21st. Head inside for the new gallery! READ MORE

[San Diego Comic-Con '12] Reaction To ‘Dredd’? Surprisingly Gory!

Lionsgate’s reboot Dredd premiered at the San Diego Comic-Con last night. It stars Karl Urban (Star Trek, The Bourne Supremacy), and was directed by Pete Travis (Endgame) and written by Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Sunshine). For those of you unfamiliar with Judge Dredd, it follows a team of futuristic police officers who act as judge, jury, and executioner, taking down crime in the meanest way possible.

While many people thought the the trailer looked a bit like The Raid, well apparently they were right. The protags have to battle their way out of a giant building. But it’s not like Dredd ripped that movie off – it started production 2 years ago.

More to the point – apparently this thing is insanely hardcore and gory. Head inside for some online reactions. Dredd hits theaters on September, 21st. READ MORE
