10 Amazing Horror Comedies!!!

Horror Comedies are by far the most difficult horror sub-genre to execute. They’re also the most likely to fail commercially. While they’re one of my favorite sub genres and I wish there were more of them, when you combine those factors it’s a miracle there aren’t even less.

And many of them are quite great! So much so that I had to strip all numbers and rankings out of this list. While I certainly like some more than others, when you get down to stuff like Gremlins and An American Werewolf In London you’re dealing with grade A classics to which assigning a number would be an insult.

Also, please note that while I love The Cabin In The Woods and Scream, I don’t consider them “comedies.” They’re both intentionally funny, but I feel like their laughs exist to provoke a very specific conversation about horror tropes, which is its own thing.

So, in no particular order, head inside for my Top 10 Horror Comedies! READ MORE

[Blu-ray Review] ‘Gremlins’ and ‘Gremlins 2: The New Batch’

One of the greatest movies ever made was released in June of 1984. Produced by Steven Spielberg, written by Chris Columbus, and starring Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates and an adorable furry puppet, Gremlins is still amazing to watch. With merchandising – including a Hardee’s deal with the story in a series of 5 books on 45 (yes, records), coloring books, school supplies, Colorform playsets and more – the film became a massive hit with children despite its violent and terrifying antagonists. In 1989, an over the top sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, was released. READ MORE

Two Clips From The ‘Gremlins’ And ‘Gremlins 2: The New Batch’ Blu-Rays Out Today!

Out today on Blu-ray from Warner Brothers home video is a new Blu-ray of Gremlins and the first Blu-ray release of Gremlins 2: The New Batch. Of course the original film is a classic, but the sequel stands the test of time as well. It’s a brave, bold and funny departure from the first film and more sequels should aspire to take the chances it took.

Gremlins is a wildly original roller-coaster ride of hilarious mischief. One minute your hair will stand on end, the next you’ll hold your sides with laughter at the havoc these supposedly gentle furballs create when the rules surrounding their care and feeding are inadvertently broken one fateful Christmas. Written by Chris Columbus and directed by Joe Dante, Gremlins unleashes special effects that dazzle and enchant and merriment that lingers in the memory. And isn’t that “what superior popular moviemaking is all about” (Richard Corliss, Time).” You can pick it up here.

In the sequel, “Billy Peltzer and Kate Beringer move to New York City and meet up with their Mogwai friend, Gizmo, when a series of accidents creates a new generation of diverse gremlins. Billy, Kate, and Gizmo must once again use all their experience to prevent another catastrophe.” Click here to grab it.
