This Alice In Chains Documentary Kinda Fails In Every Possible Way

Funny Or Die has posted a pretty entertaining “documentary” on the grunge rock band Alice In Chains. Narrated and hosted by Alan Poole McLard, a “Film Studies Professor at a community college” (nope, doesn’t say which one), the documentary follows McLard as he attempts to interview the members of AiC regarding the upcoming release of their latest album, The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here. While the majority of the documentary is McLard chatting with nobodies, some notable musicians do make an appearance, including Mike McCready (Pearl Jam), Kim Thayil (Soundgarden), Lars Ulrich and Rob Trujillo (Metallica), Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses), and more. There’s definitely a chuckle or two to be had in the video below. READ MORE

Members Of Alice In Chains, Anthrax, Pearl Jam, And More Raise Money For Charity

While the media is often focused on the (falsely) negative impacts that rock and metal music cause in society, they are often keen to ignore the massive benefits that these genres can provide. And in a gesture of just how true this statement rings, Alice In Chains just wrapped up their 4th annual Alice In Chains & Friends Fantasy Football League charity. The league this year was comprised of AIC members Jerry Cantrell and Mike Inez, former Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, ex-closer of the World Champion San Francisco Giants Brian Wilson, NFL contributor Elliot Harrison, Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready, Black Label Society guitarist/vocalist Zakk Wylde, former Queensrÿche songwriter/guitarist Chris DeGarmo and Gun N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan.

Each year, the participants donate an item that will be auctioned off via eBay. At the end of the auctions, all proceeds are donated to the league winner’s charity of choice.

This year, Anthrax’s Scott Ian won the league and chose The Painted Turtle as the charity which will be the recipient of the proceeds. The Painted Turtle is a group of camps that host children with serious medical issues, all free of charge. As a result, all proceeds to the charity go directly towards helping the families and children directly.

If you wish to enter a bid on any of the items, head on over here. READ MORE

[Album Review] Heaven’s Basement ‘Filthy Empire’

For as much of a prog-rock and prog-metal fan as I am there are some days when I want some music that cuts straight to the point and rocks out. When I was first introduced to Heaven’s Basement, I thought to myself, “This could be one of those bands. This could be a group that gets my blood boiling in a way that only the balls-out-arena-rock groups of the late 80’s/early 90’s were able to do.” After all, “Fire, Fire” fit all the criteria I could’ve asked for and more.

So once I got my grubby little mitts on Filthy Empire, their debut full length album, I immediately sank my teeth into it and blasted it at near unacceptable levels. But did the rest of the album meet my expectations and fulfill my desires? Head on below to find out. READ MORE

[Random Cool] Can You Guess All The Guitarists?

Artist Maxim Dalton painted a poster of 35 of the greatest guitar players ever. While it doesn’t include some famous axe wielders (I don’t see Dimebag Darrell on there), it is a pretty comprehensive painting of guitarists who have shaped and influenced their genres. The painting was released as a limited edition poster but sold out long ago.

But what I want to know is can you identify them all! So head on below to test yourself on your guitar player knowledge! READ MORE

[Interview] Juliette And Sean Beaven Talk 8MM

Interview and article by Chris Lockett

Over the past decade or so, the Internet has proven itself to be the ultimate gateway to discovering new music, and in helping artists from all over the world at getting their voices heard. However, every coin has a flipside, which is to say that over the past few years, the Internet has become overcrowded with some absolutely horrendous “artists” who end up with every bit as good of a chance at getting their voices heard, as the artists that have actual, discernable, talent do. It’s unfortunate. And the fact that the world seems to enjoy these dime a dozen Rock, or Pop acts, only serves to tilt the playing field away from the REAL artists/innovators, and toward these groups that have absolutely nothing new to bring to the table.

And so this brings me to the subject at hand. 8MM is an excellent band that has gone under the radar since their formation in 2004. The group, founded by Producer/Mixer extraordinaire Sean Beavan, (who has worked with Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, God Lives Underwater, Guns N’ Roses, and Slayer, as well as many others), and his wife, the stunning Juliette Beavan, have released three EPs, as well as a full-length album in 2006. And now, after a successful Kickstarter campaign, Sean and Juliette have released their latest album Between the Devil and Two Black Hearts. The album sees them completely reinventing themselves, by going from an Industrial Trip-Hop sound, to a Southern Industrial sound, and the results are nothing short of breathtaking, ensuring that the album will undoubtedly be the band’s breakthrough.

Bloody-Disgusting was able to catch up with BOTH Sean and Juliette, (we thought that we were only going to be chatting with Juliette, but were pleasantly surprised to find Sean on the other line as well), to talk about their new album and sound, as well as their views on Top 40 music, and of course, Horror flicks. Ex-Guns N’ Roses Guitarist Slash Scoring Horror Film

Ex-Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash (Velvet Revolver) has announced via his Facebook that he will be scoring the upcoming horror film Nothing To Fear. It is the first film through his horror production company Slasher Films and it has been picked up for distribution by Anchor Bay.

Slash stated, “Going into the studio tonight to work on “Nothing to Fear” score. It’s really coming together. Iiii]; )’

The film’s IMDB description says, “A family’s journey toward a better life is interrupted by an unstable man of the cloth.” It is being directed by Anthony Leonardi III, who did make-up for The Cabin In The Woods, and stars Clancy Brown (A Nightmare On Elm St., Starship Troopers), Anne Heche (Nip/Tuck, Psycho), and more.

Knowing that Slash is a big horror fan, I actually have a lot of interest in hearing how the score to this film is going to turn out. READ MORE

[LOL] Musicians Falling Off The Stage Set To The ‘Benny Hill’ Theme

It’s Thursday and it’s almost the weekend. Perhaps the days are dragging just a little too long for you and you need some inspiration to keep on trucking until the sweet glory of Saturday and Sunday descends upon you. Well, look no further, as Metal Injection has put together a fantastic little video of musicians and their on-stage accidental tumbles. My personal favorite is Iron Maiden‘s Bruce Dickinson who falls rather hard on his tuchus only to jam his legs into the air, spread eagle style.

You can get your laugh on below. But tell me, any of you see anything funny happen to a musician while you were at a concert? Tell me a few stories and I’ll share a few of mine! READ MORE

Slash Comments On Scott Weiland “Rejoining” Velvet Revolver

Yesterday I wrote up an article regarding Scott Weiland’s comments that he’d rejoined Velvet Revolver as singer of the band. While it’s true that Weiland made those comments, turns out they might not be 100% accurate to another rather important person who has a small say in the matter. Who is that you might ask? Well, how about Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash? Seems like the guitar legend heard nothing about this and has stated that Weiland is, in fact, “…out of his mind.”

Now, as I mentioned in the previous, now erroneous, article, I wasn’t at all thrilled to hear that Weiland had rejoined VR. So hearing that this isn’t the case is just a joyous moment for me. Now I just hope that a singer is selected sometime before peace in the Middle East occurs. Is that too much to ask? READ MORE

Scott Weiland Rejoins Velvet Revolver

After a nasty breakup in 2008, Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots) and the rest of the Velvet Revolver crew have announced their reconciliation along with plans to later this year record a third studio album and embark on a tour. Weiland has stated that he will still front STP and Slash will still embark on a tour promoting his solo album.

I’m sorry, but after all the singer tryouts and rumors on who would be the next frontman (hell, it could’ve even been frontwoman for all I care), I find that I’m actually kinda irritated that things fell so “simply” back into place. To be honest, I feel almost cheated. I would’ve loved to have seen VR explode back onto the scene with a fresh face as singer. Instead, this is what we get…the same thing that we had before. Well, consider me UNenthusiastic about this announcement. READ MORE

Chris’s Weekly Single Reviews Vol. 5

Review written by Chris Lockett

This last week saw the release of new music from some extremely heavy hitters. Inside you will find reviews for Soundgarden’s first brand new release since 1996’s “Down On The Upside”, Godsmack’s cover of Joe Walsh’ “Rocky Mountain Way”, a new song from P.O.D., the debut single from former Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler’s new band (Adler), a new song from former Korn guitarist Brian “Head” Welch’s new band (Love and Death), as well as the latest release from My Darkest Days. Only one of the songs can be crowned as my pick for “Single Of The Week”, and surprisingly enough, it was a pretty easy choice this week. Want to know which band gets the crown? Axl Rose NOT Attending Guns N Roses Hall Of Fame Induction: Asks To Be Retracted

In what is actually quite the shocking move, Guns N Roses singer Axl Rose has released an open letter stating that not only will he NOT attend the GnR induction into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, but he is also asking that the nomination be retracted! It’s a surprisingly well-thought out letter, although it suffers from a horrible case of run-on sentences, and Axl definitely gets his point across.

You can read the full letter below and weigh in with your thoughts in the comments. READ MORE

Axl Rose Serves Jury Duty

According to People, Guns N Roses singer Axl Rose partook in the jury duty process “after serving four days of the trial process,” according to his rep. Axl Rose stated, ”It was relatively painless. I was fortunate that everyone in the courthouse and jurors were all really great, plus I got to see daylight from a different prospect.”

First of all, I hope no one pointed a camera at him. Although that would’ve been one of the funniest Judge Judy episodes I would’ve ever seen. Secondly, they probably had to cancel any lunches or breaks for recess. Axl would’ve tacked on an additional three hours to each time just so he could watch TV in the break room.
Rep: “Axl! What the hell are you doing? Get back to court now!”
Axl: “NO! I’m watching Rugrats!”
Rep: “Rugrats?? Axl, you’re 49 years old. Starting acting like an adu-”
Axl: “REPTAR!!!!!!”
