Del Toro and Matthew Robbins penned the adaptation of a 1973 ABC telepic, penned by Nigel McKeand. Directed by Troy Nixey, when a little girl (Bailee Madison) is sent to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (Katie Holmes) in the old mansion they are renovating, she unwittingly unleashes malevolent creatures bent on destroying all of them.

Alternate: The pic follows Sally (Bailee Madison), a young girl who moves to Rhode Island to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his new girlfriend (Katie Holmes) in the 19th-century mansion they are restoring. Having stumbled upon the mansion’s hidden basement, Sally starts hearing voices calling out from the bolted ash pit, imploring her to open it. Sally obliges and unwittingly unleashes something so terrible, so unthinkable, that everyone’s life – hers most of all – is placed in immediate and grave danger.

Comic-Con ’11: A Second ‘Prometheus’ Image Being Unearthed

Just yesterday (it feels like days ago) Twentieth Century Fox unveiled this first image from Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, his planned PG-13 prequel to his 1979 Alien that was conceptualized and penned by “Lost” writer Damon Lindelof. Doing a little hunting, Bloody Disgusting was able to track down a second pic from the horror prequel arriving in theaters June 8, 2012. It looks like a photo from the early portion of the film where the military makes a “mankind-changing” discovery (we were created by aliens?!) It is not an official still, but a set pic.

Comic-Con ’11: Troy Nixey and Guy Pearce Talk ‘Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark’

Just this evening at the San Diego Comic-Con I caught up with Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (review) helmer Troy Nixey, who made his feature-length directing debut with the film, a remake of the 1973 made-for-TV movie of the same name about a family that discovers murderous tiny creatures living in the basement of their new home. I asked the very friendly director what he took from the original film in executing the updated version arriving in theaters August 26 from FilmDistrict. Full story inside.

Comic-Con ’11: The ‘Prometheus’ Ship Lives to Tell PG-13 Story

Some disturbing news out of the ongoing Fox panel in Hall H of the San Diego Comic-Con. Director Ridley Scott shot a video introduction from the set of Prometheus, the still unconfirmed Alien prequel starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Guy Pearce, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green, Benedict Wong, Emun Elliott and Ben Foster.

The biggest disappointment out of the panel is that the film is apparently PG-13 but Scott hinted they are covering their asses with more extreme material and do what’s right for the film in the end. He says it is not hindering the movie and that he wants “to scare the shit out of you.” As for the Alien connection, this is all he had to share: “It has the DNA of the original ‘Alien’ that’s it. Everything else is completely original.

The thousands of fans were then treated to the first ever footage, as described by Andrew Kasch beyond the break.

Worst Poster of the Year Award: ‘Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark’

While I think the treatment of the font is beautiful, the new poster for FilmDistrict’s Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (review) is one of the worst sales pitches in recent memory. Damon Lindelof on How ‘Prometheus’ is a(n Original) Prequel to ‘Alien’

The mystery surrounding Ridley Scott’s Prometheus appears to finally be over — and it didn’t take six seasons and a despicable series finale to find out.

Screenwriter Damon Lindelof, the demon behind “Lost”, openly spoke to Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show about how he approached Scott’s presumed prequel to Alien. As much as my skin crawls when I hear his name, he makes some really strong points; the boys over at /Film were kind enough to transcribe the good stuff.
