[Special Report] Our Guide The Mazes Of Universal Studios Hollywood “Halloween Horror Nights”!

On Friday night I attended the Eyegore Awards at Universal Studios Hollywood. The event also serves as the official opening of their yearly Halloween Horror Nights extravaganza of mazes, performers and all around seasonally appropriate carnage. I always have fun with this event and I was stoked to see how this year measured up.

So after the awards I took it upon myself to amble around the park and visit the seven unique attractions that comprise the Horror Nights programming. And I’m pleased to say that this year’s set of mazes is even better than last year’s – if you’re making the trek out to the Hollywood version of Halloween Horror Nights, you won’t be disappointed.

As always – you need to go in with a plan. There’s only so much time, and lines are long, so we figured we’d provide you with our personalized guide for the event. This year’s Halloween Horror Nights dates are September 21, 22, 28, 29 and October 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 31. Tickets are available here.

Head inside to see which mazes we think you should prioritize and how to plan your evening. READ MORE

David Harley Survived ‘Halloween Horror Nights’ Orlando

For the past twenty-two years, Universal Orlando has been home to the always fun and sometimes genuinely frightening Halloween Horror Nights. For their 2012 edition, Universal has gone all out, creating all-new houses with the help of a famous illusion/comedy duo and musician, as well as taking inspiration from one of my favorite horror game series of all time, the biggest horror show currently on television, and the company’s own history.

(Assumedly) Due to the all the construction going on in the park, there are only seven houses this year instead of the traditional eight – which is a bummer – but between everything the event has to offer, there’s enough to keep you occupied for a night.

Guillermo Del Toro Talks ‘Pacific Rim’ And ‘Hellboy 3′

We all know Guillermo Del Toro is an insanely busy guy. When I caught up with him last night on the red carpet for the Eyegore Awards (which kicked off this year’s Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood), it was no exception. He was being hounded by everybody. But I did get a few tidbits on the upcoming Pacific Rim and a small update on Hellboy 3

Regarding Pacific Rim, he said that despite the big-budget he’s had an extraordinary amount of freedom. “It’s gonna be great! I’m 48 years old and this is the best experience I’ve ever had making a movie! In spite of my age I feel like a 12 year old when I go to the sets. It’s going to be a fun, fun, fun experience.

And Hellboy 3. The eternal question. “We’re trying! We try and we try and we try. It’s an expensive proposition and it’s not easy!” Yeesh! Given that Del Toro has an insanely full dance card and the uphill battle that Hellboy 3 seems to be, I’d say it’s possible but not likely to happen anytime soon. Maybe after Pacific Rim (if it goes bonkers at the box office and Del Toro can find a spare year to work on it).

This year’s Halloween Horror Nights dates are September 21, 22, 28, 29 and October 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 31.

Bill Moseley Talks Returning To The Saw In ‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’, Chiller TV’s “Dead Souls”

I nabbed Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects, Rob Zombie’s Halloween) last night on the red carpet for the Eyegore Awards (which kicked off this year’s Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood). And he was definitwly game to discuss Lionsgate’s newly titled Texas Chainsaw 3D. It goes without saying that he’s not reprising his role as “Chop-Top” from TCM2. And turns out there’s a reason we don’t see much of him in the trailer.

I didn’t see much of you in that trailer, I assume they’re saving you for later. “Correct! I play Drayton Sawyer, who was played by Jim Siedow in the very first film in 1974. I play him imperfectly, I might add. But with love and enthusiasm.” Anything else coming up? “I’ve got Dead Souls coming up for Chiller TV. It’s based in the book by Michael Laimo and is directed by Colin Theys.

Texas Chainsaw 3D is in theaters January 4, 2013. Dead Souls premieres on Chiller TV Friday, October 12th at 9PM ET.

This year’s Halloween Horror Nights dates are September 21, 22, 28, 29 and October 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 31.

Adelaide Clemens Talks Playing Heather Mason In ‘Silent Hill: Revelations 3D’

I caught up with Adelaide Clemens (Wolverine, The Great Gatsby) last night on the red carpet for the Eyegore Awards (which kicked off this year’s Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood) and we were able to chat a bit about her role in the upcoming Silent Hill: Revelation 3D.

It was a huge privilege to take on the role of Heather Mason and to be in that world. There are so many scares involved it’s extraordinary and the aesthetic of the game is a big part of the world but we take the plot and put a twist on it’s head so…” Is she signed on for Part 3? “I would love to be a part of it, but there haven’t been any discussions as of yet.

Kit Harington, Sean Bean, Radha Mitchell, Deborah Kara Unger, Carrie-Anne Moss, Malcolm McDowell also star in the Michael J. Bassett directed sequel that’s based on the acclaimed survival horror video game. Open Road will release in Silent Hill: Revelation 3D in theaters on October 26th.

This year’s Halloween Horror Nights dates are September 21, 22, 28, 29 and October 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 31.

Chad Michael Murray Talks ‘The Haunting In Georgia’

I caught up with actor Chad Michael Murray (“One Tree Hill”, House Of Wax) last night on the red carpet for the Eyegore Awards (which kicked off this year’s Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood). And he was briefly able to fill us in a bit on his role in the upcoming The Haunting In Georgia, the followup to The Haunting In Connecticut.

I can’t tell you when it comes out, but I can tell you that you’ll dig it! I play a souther prison guard whose wife and daughter are supposedly schizophrenic. It’s the second in the trilogy – you’ve got Connecticut, Georgia and New York. The first one was really great and we hope to follow up that success nicely in Georgia.” Not much… but we’ll keep you posted on that release date.

This year’s Halloween Horror Nights dates are September 21, 22, 28, 29 and October 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 31.

‘Frozen’ And ‘Hatchet 2′ Producer Jason Miller To Direct Found Footage Movie

I caught up with producer Jason Miller (Frozen, Hatchet 2, Chillerama) last night on the red carpet for the Eyegore Awards (which kicked off this year’s Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood) and he filled us in on his new project.

So you have a found footage project coming up? “I do… I haven’t announced it yet but I guess I can give you the exclusive [laughs]. We’re still negotiating with a distributor but we’ve shot half of it on our own and now we’re just wrapping it up.” And this is you behind the camera right? “Yes. Writing and directing.

Miller directed last year’s short Infected which starred Alexis Peters, BD alum Brian Collins, David Foy and A.J. Bowen. He also served as second unit director on Hatchet 2 and Frozen so he’s definitely been working on his chops. I’m definitely interested to see where this goes.

This year’s Halloween Horror Nights dates are September 21, 22, 28, 29 and October 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 31.

Darren Lynn Bousman Talks ‘The Devil’s Carnival 2′, Taking A Break And ‘Abattoir’

I caught up with Darren Bousman last night on the red carpet for the Eyegore Awards (which kicked off this year’s Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood). He’s had a busy year what with The Devil’s Carnival, Mother’s Day and the upcominng release of The Barrens. So he’s probably taking a little break pretty soon – but not until after The Devil’s Carnival 2.

He told us, “We’re starting pre-production right now. It takes place in Heaven and it’s a lot more dark and f*cked up than the first one that takes place in Hell. So Heaven is a lot darker than Hell in our case. Everyone [from the original] is back and we have a whole new cast of misfits as well.

Is he keeping up the breakneck pace after that? “No. I’m taking a break. I’m ready to die.” After the break? “The only thing I can talk about is Abattoir. I had a comic book series called ‘Abattoir’ and I’m writing the script [for the film] right now. That’s in the very early stages of pre-production. That would probably be my next movie.

This year’s Halloween Horror Nights dates are September 21, 22, 28, 29 and October 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 31.

Katie Featherston Confirms (More Or Less) An Appearance In ‘Paranormal Activity 4′

Catfish duo Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman are back for Paranormal Activity 4 after directing Paranormal Activity 3. And we know someone else we’re betting is back too. Katie Featherston.

I caught up with her last night on the red carpet for the Eyegore Awards (which kicked off this year’s Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood) and pressed her about her potential appearance in the film. “I know! I hear it on the internet, so of course it’s true! I actually don’t know one way or the other but I know that they’re working busily to put [the film] together and that everyone seems super excited. I keep up with Oren Peli and Jason Blum all the time. Fingers crossed I get the hookup before it comes out!

Were told that the sequel will explore the family of witches we saw in PA3 (who live next door to a newly introduced family) in this fourth film from creator/producer Oren Peli. There are some inside naysayers to this Katie Featherston theory, so I guess we’ll find out on October 19th! Sneak A Peek At The Makeup Behind Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights!

The artistry that transforms mere mortals into the most frightening creatures imaginable was revealed yesterday at Universal Studios Hollywood, as extreme Hollywood horror make-up masterminds offered a sneak peek at this year’s bone-chilling “Halloween Horror Nights” event.

Extreme Hollywood horror make-up artist Larry Bones and his innovative special effects team partnered with “Halloween Horror Nights” Creative Director, John Murdy, to demonstrate how many highly dramatic, morbidly disturbing creatures will come to life during the event. As the skilled professionals created the illusions of severed heads, oozing wounds and slashed throats, an additional team of experts showcased other effects employed to craft the many scare-actors featured throughout “Halloween Horror Nights.” Costume designers were on hand to distress and customize wardrobe, wig makers teased and twisted locks, and a graphic artist adeptly illustrated original “Halloween Horror Nights” concept art.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Saw is Law

Uni’s Halloween Horror Night’s Revs Up For “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Saw Is The Law”

The tragic and demented account of Leatherface and his deranged family of cannibals set the stage for this year’s new maze, “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Saw Is The Law,” based on filmmaker Tobe Hooper’s notoriously unsettling 1974 horror film classic at “Halloween Horror Nights” at Universal Studios Hollywood, Southern California’s premier Halloween event.

This original American horror film tells the story of five young friends who unsuspectingly fall victim to the ghastly terrors and torment of a depraved and cannibalistic Texas clan. The film, hailed among the most influential horror movies in cinematic history, will now be meticulously recreated into a disturbingly gruesome “Halloween Horror Nights” maze.

Those who dare to step into the inner workings of a slaughterhouse maze will be gripped with vivid telltale signs of imminent doom. Gruesome and blood-soaked scenes from the controversial classic will terrorize guests as they experience a labyrinth that will captivate all senses and render them defenseless when met with nightmarish images of mutilated bodies on bloody meat hooks; become paralyzed by putrid odors of decomposed corpses; navigate their way through human bones and animal pelts suspended from the ceiling; and run from the unmistakable roaring sound of a chainsaw revving to life when Leatherface lunges from the darkness in search of victims. ‘La Llorona’ Returning To Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights!

I really dug the ‘La Llorona’ designs for last year’s maze, “La Llorona: Villa De Almas Perdidas”, at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights. So much so that I kind of regret that it was the one maze I didn’t have time to see, but I’m going to make a point of seeing everything this year – which means I’ll most certainly be checking out the follow-up maze ‘La Llorona: Cazadora de Niños’ or ‘Weeping Woman: The Child Hunter’.

‘La Llorona: Cazadora de Niños’ will feature immersive environments depicting scenes and imagery of a rural Mexican village. This year’s maze will tell the haunting story of ‘La Llorona,’ a beautiful girl named Maria from a poor village who desperately sought to win the affection of a rich nobleman. Rejected and grief stricken, she drowns her children in a river. Overcome with anguish, she drowns herself in a bitter end. According to legend, Maria’s tormented and distressed spirit wanders the earth, eternally piercing the night with mournful cries, “My children! Where are my children?” ― giving rise to her name, ‘La Llorona’ or ‘The Weeping Woman.’

Head inside for the full rundown. This year’s Halloween Horror Nights dates are September 21, 22, 28, 29 and October 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 31. READ MORE

Alice Cooper To Evoke Maniacal Mayhem At Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights!!

Multi-platinum recording artist Alice Cooper, a mastermind of the rock horror genre, will conjure up his peculiar vision of disturbing horror imagery in two new haunted attractions debuting this fall at Halloween Horror Nights at both Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood.

For the first time ever at Universal Orlando Resort’s award-winning event, Alice Cooper’s own version of a demented and dark subconscious will come to life in the haunted maze, “Alice Cooper – Welcome to My Nightmare.” Inspired by iconic elements from his first solo album, the attraction will put guests inside the haunted dreams of the album’s recurring character, “Steven,” as he endures the scream-inducing madness spawned from the mind of the legendary rocker.

Making an encore performance at Universal Studios Hollywood’s acclaimed event, Alice Cooper’s new haunted attraction, “Alice Cooper Goes to Hell 3D,” will be inspired by the musician’s classic concept album centered on unending darkness, eternal torment and unimaginable horrors. The terrifying maze will beckon guests to experience hell’s interminable inferno as imagined through the eyes of hard rock visionary Alice Cooper. To experience this daunting new maze, guests will don 3D glasses for an optimum up close and personal three-dimensional encounter with Alice Cooper’s underworld.

Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights Is Getting An Added Dose of ‘Silent Hill’

I’ve always had an itch to go to Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights, but I’ve never really had the chance. This year, I have two very exciting reasons to finally haul my lazy ass over to Los Angeles, and they include The Walking Dead maze and the recently unveiled Silent Hill attraction. This fall, the legendary haunted attraction which runs from September through October will include some of the most iconic monsters video games have to offer. Anyone who’s lucky enough to attend can expect to see some nurses and the infamous Pyramid Head, and I imagine pairing this with a screening of Silent Hill: Revelation 3D (the film hits theaters on October26) could very well end with you on the ground in an awesome horror-induced coma.
