We’re back from vacation. The 40oz. Of Horror Podcast was absent last week, but with good reason — Chad was MIA while visiting Eli Roth’s Goretorium. Is it worth the cost of admission? Chad has the answer.

Are Netflix original series worthy of marathon viewings? Chad and James go toe-to-toe and duke it out over original on-demand television — what is your opinion?

In WTF News, we talk about a company who will mail your enemies… well, something brown and smelly. And of course we have tons of horror news to catch you up.

Also, we must apologize for the drunken shitshow that was last episode. If you were drinking along, sorry for your hangover.

[TV] Next On “Hannibal”, Promo For Episode 1×09 Promo “Trou Normand”

While we wait patiently for news on if CBS will renew “Hannibal” for another season, my DVR continues to pile up with episodes as I refuse to get attached to a potentially cancelled series.

Continuing next week, as of now, is episode 1×09 “Trou Normand”, “The BAU team hunts a serial killer who digs up his victims, creating a totem pole of their bodies as a macabre trophy. When Nick Boyle’s (Mark Rendall) body is found, Jack (Laurence Fishburne) & Alana (Caroline Dhavernas) question Abigail (Kacey Rohl) about his death. The resurrection of Nick’s body enlightens Will (Hugh Dancy) to some of Abigail’s secrets and Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) convinces Will to keep some of his own. Attempting to assert independence, Abigail agrees to write a book with Freddy Lounds (Lara Jean Chorostecki) and in the process, reveals her biggest secret to Hannibal.

Even if cancelled, the show could exist in a lesser format, such as Amazon Streaming. READ MORE

[TV] Even If Cancelled, “Hannibal” Will Continue To Kill…

Even with a potential cancellation in the cards, there appears to be only good news for the Bryan Fuller-headed series “Hannibal.”

While NBC internally debates bringing back the incredibly expensive “Hannibal” for a second season, other networks, including Amazon, are licking their chops in anticipation of a cancellation, reports Deadline.

The series, from “Pushing Daisies” creator Bryan Fuller, got off to a solid ratings start and was in serious contention for an early renewal. The numbers eventually tapered off, and NBC put the renewal decision on hold.

There are no talks going on and “Hannibal” has not been shopped as the producers are waiting on a renewal at NBC.

NBC’s “Hannibal” continues on with its strong first season as we now have the promo for next week’s episode 1×08 “Fromage”.

Meanwhile, Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) discovers that the killer, Tobias, (Demore Barnes) murdered the victim as an attempt to gain Hannibal’s attention but then makes an attempt to take Lecter’s life. Will (Hugh Dancy) is driven to distraction by strange noises in his head and turns to Alana, in a romantic way, seeking peace and stability. Hannibal describes his relationship with Will to his therapist, Dr. Bedilia Du Maurier (Gillian Anderson).” Vladmimir Cubrt, Dan Fogler, guest. READ MORE

Both a gift and a curse, Graham has the extraordinary ability to think like his prey—he sees what they see, feels what they feel. But while Graham is pursuing an especially troubling, cannibalistic murderer, Special Agent Jack Crawford teams him with a highly respected psychiatrist – a man with a taste for the criminal minded – Dr. Hannibal Lecter.

While Lecter and Graham work to unravel the mystery and catch the killer, Dr. Lecter tests him every step of the way, toying with Graham, playing a game all his own. As is my ritual on Fridays, I need to watch last night’s episode of NBC’s “Hannibal” ASAP. In the meantime, check out Gillian Anderson as Hannibal’s shrink in this teaser for next week’s episode 1.07 “Sorbet.”

In the episode, “When the BAU investigates a murder involving organ removal Jack (Laurence FIshburne) believes that the Chesapeake Ripper may have resurfaced, but Will (Hugh Dancy) determines that the victim’s murder is the result of illegal organ harvesting accident. [TV] Salt Lake City Hates “Hannibal”

The Salt Lake City, Utah station that doesn’t bring you “New Normal” or “Saturday Night Live” is also opting out of NBC’s frosh serial killer drama “Hannibal,” Variety is reporting.

KSL-TV cited the level of violence in the show, a TV spin on the “Silence of the Lambs” franchise.

On the NBC affiliate’s Facebook page, KSL TV posted:

PROGRAMMING NOTE: After viewing the past few episodes, as well as receiving numerous complaints from viewers, KSL-TV will cancel the airing of the NBC show “Hannibal” on Thursday evenings. This decision was made due to the extensive graphic nature of this show. The time slot will be replaced with a special edition of KSL 5 News at 9 p.m.

NBC remains a valued partner to KSL-TV. KSL is confident that with the proliferation of digital media, those who wish to view the program can easily do so.

KSL TV, which has ties to the Mormon church, previously declined to air NBC’s “The Playboy Club” and “New Normal.” Station also does not air “Saturday Night Live.” Programming decisions, according to the station, stem from these shows not being “in accordance” with KSL’s “mission” and brand messaging, says the site. [TV] Next On “Hannibal” See Eddie Izzard Play Anthony Hopkins In Episode 1.05 “Entree”

NBC’s “Hannibal” is a show that I’m definitely digging. Tonight’s episode, “Coquilles”, hasn’t aired in my time zone yet but I’m definitely digging the trajectory its on. Interestingly enough, it seems like Eddie Izzard is basically playing Anthony Hopkins’ version of the Hannibal character in next week’s episode 1.05 “Entree”, right on down to the mannerisms (not to mention the glass cell.

In the episode, “Jack (Laurence Fishburne) & Alana (Caroline Dhavernas) are contacted by a former colleague, Dr. Chilton, (Raul Esparza ) who believes he has The Chesapeake Ripper in custody, but then one of his patients commits a murder that matches The Ripper’s profile. The team determines the Ripper was a surgeon and is still at large when Jack’s former protégé Miriam (Anna Chlumsky) becomes the next victim. Jack copes with her loss and the prospect of losing his wife by opening-up to Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen).

The series focuses on the fledgling relationship between FBI agent Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen), his mentor.” Other key cast members include Lance Henriksen (Near Dark, roughly 8% of horror movies in general), Gillian Anderson (“X-Files”), Gina Torres (“Firefly”), “Wonderfalls”’ Caroline Dhavernas and Ellen Muth (Dead Like Me).

[TV] Start Watching A “Cannibalized” Version Of That Deleted “Hannibal” Episode Now!

Okay, first thing’s first. Episode 1.04 of NBC’s “Hannibal” isn’t “Coquilles”, it’s “Ceuf”. As we reported earlier, it wasn’t even sent out to critics in a mailer containing the first few episodes, so this call was made a while ago (ostensibly by Fuller himself).

I know a lot of you were upset at the potential of “Coquilles” being pulled because of those flayed out human angel sculptures. Well, no worries – you’ll still see those on Thursday! That’s not the episode they’re sitting on. “Ceuf” features “Molly Shannon’s character brainwashing kids, leading them to kill other children.”

As previously reported, that episode is being broken up into bits, with commentary from Fuller, and posted on the web. The idea here is to bridge the continuity between Episodes 3 and 5. And the first one of these is available now.

[TV] “Hannibal” Not Airing 4th Episode Due To Boston Bombings, Cultural Climate

You’re going to have to wait a while to see episode 1.04 of NBC’s “Hannibal”, “Coquilles.” Per Variety, the episode – which features “Molly Shannon’s character brainwashing kids, leading them to kill other children” – has been pulled from NBC’s schedule at Fuller’s request.

Fuller explained that he felt the cultural climate in the country just wasn’t right at the time, “I didn’t want to have anyone come to the show and have a negative experience. Whenever you [write] a story and look at the sensational aspects of storytelling, you think, ‘This is interesting metaphorically, and this is interesting as social commentary.’ With this episode, it wasn’t about the graphic imagery or violence. It was the associations that came with the subject matter that I felt would inhibit the enjoyment of the overall episode… It was my own sensitivity.” Another factor here was apparently Sandy Hook’s re-emergence in the news this week (victim’s parents were in the stands at the Boston Marathon and a gun bill inspired by the tragedy was voted down), and it’s important to note that this episode was shot before that tragedy even took place.

Apparently, you’ll still totally be able to follow Episode 5 despite not seeing Episode 4 (it wasn’t sent to critics, but eps 3 and 5 were). Also, NBC and Fuller will help bridge the gap by providing a package of clips from the show online that trace the character aspects of the episode with commentary from Fuller. I imagine we’ll be seeing this one on Blu or DVD (it’s also airing overseas).

“Hannibal” airs at 10/9c on Thursdays. READ MORE

[TV] “Hannibal” Gaining Steam, Finally…

NBC’s “Hannibal” is absolutely badass, and you should be watching it. The first week wasn’t encouraging; it didn’t help that the show was pushed behind NBC’s terrible Thursday night comedy entourage. Still, strong word of mouth appears to be helping this insanely expensive new series.

One week after opening to decent numbers, NBC drama “Hannibal” held up well in its second outing Thursday — opposite repeats on the competition — and continues to look better than other recent shows to air in the night’s closing hour for the Peacock, states Variety.

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, “Hannibal” averaged a 1.6 rating/5 share in adults 18-49 and 4.3 million viewers overall in the 10 o’clock hour, topping in demos the encores of both CBS’ “Elementary” (1.4/4 in 18-49, 7.3 million viewers overall) and ABC’s “Scandal” (0.9/3 in 18-49, 3.6 million viewers overall). The new Bryan Fuller-created drama matched its week-ago averages and grew from its first half-hour to its second (1.6 to 1.7). And since these prelim “Hannibal” numbers include a 1-minute runover from low-rated comedy “Go On,” the drama’s demo score could round up to a 1.7 in the nationals.

Starring Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen and Caroline Dhavernas, the insanely violent series explores the early relationship between the renowned psychiatrist and his patient, a young FBI criminal profiler, who is haunted by his ability to empathize with serial killers.

NBC’s “Hannibal,” has given TVLine a new clip from their episode 1.02, titled “Amuse-Bouche.” I haven’t seen the show yet but this clip has me intrigued (along with everything else I’ve heard about it). It would definitely suck to be buried alive so you could harvest mushrooms.

In the episode, “Will Graham (Hugh Dancy), now an official special investigator with the FBI, helps Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) and the BAU unit search for a murderer who buries his victims alive to grow mushrooms. In their therapy sessions, Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) begins to gain Will’s trust as they bond over responsibility for Abigail (guest star Kacey Rohl), and helps Will open up about his true feelings about killing Hobbs. Meanwhile, Freddie Lounds (guest star Lara Jean Chorostecki) snoops around the BAU’s investigation.” Caroline Dhavernas and Hettienne Park also star.
