Daniel Radcliffe Used Heavy Metal To Prepare For ‘Horns’ Role

Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) spoke with The Sun about his preparations for the upcoming Alexander Aja-directed supernatural horror film Horns, stating he listened to a great deal of heavy metal and rock ‘n’ roll to get into character.

Radcliffe stated, “I’m listening to a lot of metal and allowing that slightly demonic rock ’n’ roll spirit out. There’s nothing else like it.

In the aftermath of his girlfriend’s mysterious death, a young man awakens to strange horns sprouting from his temples. READ MORE

Alan Moore Makes Harry Potter The Antichrist In ‘The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen 2009′

According to Sunday’s edition of The Independent, In Alan Moore’s latest chapter of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Harry Potter appears as the Antichrist, killing someone with a bolt of lighting from his flaccid penis. Yes, you read that correctly. Absurd, hysterical, and likely to make millions around the world burst into tears at the sight of their favorite anti-heroe’s junk. While some may say this is tasteless, anyone who knows Moore will understand this as satire, and a commentary on the current trend in publishing to take great stories and turn them into massive cash cows. The writer of The Independent article, Laura Sneddon, got an exclusive first look at the book, and she wrote a damn good piece about it. READ MORE

Elizabeth Olsen, Glenn Close, And Tom Felton Team Up For Ghostly ‘Therese Raquin’!

OlsenRaquin20812 Elizabeth Olsen, Glenn Close, And Tom Felton Team Up For Ghostly Therese Raquin!

Elizabeth Olsen, who was amazing in Martha Marcy May Marlene, seems to have a taste for darker material than her more famous twin siblings. At first I assumed that the sole deciding factor for her role in MMMM was the quality of the piece. But it may have been the tone as well. After all, she can pretty much write her own ticket now and her dance card is still full of darker stuff like Silent House and Red Lights.

Now we can add Therese Raquin to her resume of thrillers. She’ll be costarring with Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs, Fatal Attraction) and Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter).

Per Deadline, “Tom Felton is in negotiations to star opposite Elizabeth Olsen and Glenn Close in Therese Raquin. Written and set to be helmed by acclaimed theater director Charlie Stratton, the film’s being produced by William Horberg and Mickey Liddell. Close is attached for the role of Madame Raquin, and Olsen for Therese, who, with her lover Laurent, murder her husband (Felton), a sick boy that Madame Raquin forced Therese to marry. After Therese later marries her true love, the couple is haunted by the ghost of the dead husband and it poisons their love into all-consuming hatred.

That actually sounds like a cool, albeit mean-spirited, idea for a ghost story. I hope it sticks the landing. READ MORE

[BD Review] ‘The Woman in Black’ For Those Unacquainted With Horror

[BD Review] The Woman in Black For Those Unacquainted With Horror

Now in theaters everywhere is CBS Films’ The Woman in Black, the latest Hammer production that stars Harry Potter‘s Daniel Radcliffe. While the film is beautifully shot, the unfortunate fact is it’s a horror film for those unacquainted with the genre.

What’s most troubling is ‘Eden Lake’ director James Watkins’ inability to craft a “real” scare…there are two should-be terrifying moments that fall completely flat on its face.

This film has the most wide array of marketing material I’ve seen recently, probably due to Radcliffe’s status as international superstar Harry Potter – many different territories are getting their own unique materials. Today we have a new UK TV spot.

I recently had a chance to speak with Watkins about the film, which is a real departure for him in terms of tone and achieving what he calls “a pervasive sense of dread“.

Dark Peter ‘Pan’ Tale Takes Fight, Again

Four years after being announced, Swiss director Ben Hibon, who helmed the animated sequence in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, has been tapped to direct fantasy action thriller (with supernatural elements) Pan for Social Capital Films and Energy Entertainment. The project is based on Ben Magid’s script, originally acquired in 2006 by New Line as a vehicle for Guillermo del Toro to direct. The film puts a dark spin on J.M. Barrie’s “Peter Pan,” with Captain Hook as a haunted former police detective in pursuit of a childlike kidnapper. Casting is under way for a European shoot next fall. Hibon’s previous animation directing credits include the short “Codehunters,” which premiered at the 2006 MTV Asia Awards and has been shown at more than 50 film festivals, as well as the videogames “Heavenly Sword” and “Killer 7.”
