Year Zero (HBO)

Based on Trent Reznor’s (Nine Inch Nails) albums. The “Year Zero” album criticizes the U.S. government — specifically the Bush years — and presents a dystopian vision of the year 2022. Reznor has already adapted the album into an alternate reality game.

[TV] Guillermo Del Toro Making A “Monster” With HBO

Guillermo del Toro is partnering with HBO to bring Monster to life, per Deadline. While things are only just now entering the development stage, the series will be based on an 18 volume Japanese Manga by author Naoki Urasawa.

It sounds like Del Toro will co-write the series outline with Steven Thompson (“Dr. Who”, “Sherlock”). Thompson will then script the pilot and it’s planned that del Toro intends to direct it and set up the world (like Eli Roth did in “Hemlock Grove”).

The book “is about the worldwide search by a young doctor for the most evil sociopath that has ever lived. He is a 12-year old boy, and the doctor’s decision to save his life has unwittingly unleashed a Pandora’s Box that leaves the doc battling to stop a plot of mass genocide.

Del Toro will also be executive producer and Thompson co-executive producer, with Angry Films’ partners Don Murphy and Susan Montford executive producing with Exile’s Gary Ungar. “Monster” was originally set up at New Line, but the lengthy nature of the book dictated that it would be a better fit for TV.

[TV] Waiting Really Sucks In This “True Blood” Alcide Clip

Season 6 of “True Blood” is set to premiere on Sunday, June 16 at 9/8c.Now, HBO has premiered another one of its annual “waiting sucks” clips showcasing a behind-the-scenes moment from the program. Here, in a clip called “Alcide”, people I vaguely recognize fight over a dog or coyote or something.

The series started in 2008, “In a world where vampires have “come out of the coffin”, Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress, discovers a new world of different creatures when she meets Bill Compton, a vampire.

Guest stars joining the HBO smash in Season 6 are acting vet Rutger Hauer (as a mysterious figure with deep ties to Sookie and Jason), “Rubicon’s” Arliss Howard (as Louisiana Governor Truman Burrell), “Friday Night Lights” grad Jurnee Smollett-Bell (as do-gooder Nicole), “90210‘s” Amelia Rose Blaire (as Howard’s onscreen daughter), “House‘s” Karolina Wydra (as a badass vamp) and All The Boys Love Mandy Lane‘s Luke Grimes as James, a Jim Morrison style vampire. The lovely Anna Camp also reprises her role as anti-vamp puritan Sarah. READ MORE

[TV] Is “True Blood” Killing Off Eric Northman?

Season 6 of “True Blood” is set to premiere on Sunday, June 16 at 9/8c and apparently this is quite the violent year with a major paring down of the show’s central cast. The lastest rumor has it that Alexander Skarsgård may be departing the show around episode 6, his character of Eric Northam having been killed off.

This all comes from TVLine (who could have made up the rumor for all we know). Their Michael Ausiello addresses the rumors.” I can neither confirm or deny the rumors, but I can offer you two pieces of evidence that suggest such a twist is in the realm of possibility. The first one comes care of Joe Manganiello, who tells TVLine, “We’re getting to the point in the season now where people are starting to die. The table reads are starting to get smaller, and I’m sure they will continue to do that.” Exhibit B, meanwhile, arrives in the form of Episode 7′s title — “The Funeral.” Sorry I don’t have better news for you.

Hardly concrete stuff, though I would assume that it would have to be someone big for them to title an episode Funeral. I can also imagine just about anyone having been on the show for four or more years getting sick of it.

[TV] Anna Camp Returns To Bon Temps For Some More “True Blood”

Season 6 of “True Blood” is set to premiere on Sunday, June 16 at 9/8c and we’ve gotten word of at least one more familiar face that will be back. TV Line is reporting that Anna Camp (The Help) will reprise her role as anti-vamp puritan Sarah. I really like Camp, but sadly it looks like this will only be for a few episodes.

The series started in 2008, “In a world where vampires have “come out of the coffin”, Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress, discovers a new world of different creatures when she meets Bill Compton, a vampire.

Also joining the HBO smash in Season 6 are acting vet Rutger Hauer (as a mysterious figure with deep ties to Sookie and Jason), “Rubicon’s” Arliss Howard (as Louisiana Governor Truman Burrell), “Friday Night Lights” grad Jurnee Smollett-Bell (as do-gooder Nicole), “90210‘s” Amelia Rose Blaire (as Howard’s onscreen daughter), “House‘s” Karolina Wydra (as a badass vamp) and All The Boys Love Mandy Lane‘s Luke Grimes as James, a Jim Morrison style vampire. [TV] Karolina Wydra To Vamp It Up In Season 6 Of “True Blood”

HBO’s “True Blood” is currently filming its’ sixth season for a summer premiere and it looks like Karolina Wydra (pictured above; “House”) will be joining the show. Per TVLine, she’ll be playing Violet, who “is described as a strong, sexy, possibly dangerous vamp on par with the Eric Northmans and Bill Comptons of the world.” Big surprise, I know!

The series started in 2008, “In a world where vampires have “come out of the coffin”, Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress, discovers a new world of different creatures when she meets Bill Compton, a vampire.” “True Blood’s” sixth season is slated to premiere in June 2013.

KILL LIST director Ben Wheatley

[TV] ‘Kill List’ Director Hits the Black Market With HBO’s “Silk Road”

HBO is getting into the thriller business with Ben Wheatley as the Hollywood Reporter writes that the British filmmaker behind such independent films as Down Terrace, Sightseers and ultra-violent Kill List will write, executive produce and direct the original drama “Silk Road,” which is said to be in the vein of “The Prisoner.”

Though the premium cable network is keeping details of the project under wraps, it could be worth noting that Silk Road is the name of an online black market, where the majority of products qualify as contraband in most jurisdictions.

This will probably be our only report on the project until we can confirm there are horror elements. It eventually tuend out that Wheatley’s next project, a civil war drama titled A Field in England, is actually horror-themed. He is also developing the large-scale sci-fi action film Freak Shift with David Linde’s Lava Bear Productions. He’s a horror guy.

[TV] Two Ladies Move Into Bon Temps For Some “True Blood”

Season 6 of “True Blood” will be hitting HBO later this year. After a 5th Season that found a lot of you guys reinvigorated in the show after a sub-par 4th outing, I expect that interest in Bon Temps is still high. To that end, the show has recently added 2 actresses to its roster. Amelia Rose Blaire (pictured above; “90210″) and Jurnee Smollett (pictured below; “Friday Night Lights”).

Per Deadline, “Blaire will play Willa Burrell, the daughter of Louisiana Gov. Truman Burrell (Arliss Howard), who has long clashed with her father over vampire rights. Smollett will play wide-eyed Nicole Wright, who is not concerned with money and more concerned with the common good and doing what’s right. Blaire’s role is recurring that could become regular, and Smollett will be a regular.

More importantly, how do you think Alan Ball’s departure will affect the show? READ MORE

[TV] Meet “True Blood’s” New King Of Louisiana!

“True Blood” has crowned the new king of Louisiana.

Arliss Howard (“Rubicon,” “Medium”), pictured, is joining the HBO drama’s forthcoming sixth season in the series regular role of Louisiana Governor Creighton Burrell, TVLine has learned.

The character is described as a good ol’ boy politician who has a major beef with vampires ever since his wife ran off with one, leaving him as a single father to their only daughter. Politically savvy and perhaps overly ambitious, Creighton tends to let his personal aspirations overshadow his humanity.

Howard’s other credits include the films Full Metal Jacket, Ruby, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Moneyball.

“True Blood‘s” sixth season is slated to premiere in June.

[TV] Was Hitchcock Really Evil? “The Girl” Faces Some Backlash

HBO’s “The Girl” premiered on Saturday, October 20th. I actually thought it was really good but, expecting a typical biopic lionization, I was caught off guard. This movie was harsh on Hitchcock. I felt bad for him and his obsessive nature on occasion, but felt much much worse for Tippi Hedren (The Birds, Marnie) and the treatment she suffered at his hands (at least in the version of events depicted in the film).

“The Girl” depicts severe sexual harassment and shooting conditions that border on assault. Is it accurate? I have no idea. I’m much less of an expert on Hitchcock than I’d like to be. While the director once famously stated “I never said all actors are cattle; what I said was all actors should be treated like cattle”, many actors have given rather warm accounts of working with him. Of course, Hedren is not one of them.

As stated in the the production notes, “Hedren cooperated with the film by giving interviews to writer Gwyneth Hughes, while Hitchcock biographer Donald Spoto consulted on the project.” In a statement Hughes said: “It’s been the most enormous privilege to talk at length to Tippi Hedren, the last ‘Hitchcock blonde’ in the life of Britain’s most original and successful film director. At the time, in the early 1960s, the American star suffered in silence. But now, at the age of 81, her wisdom and insights have helped me to put her real life ordeal on to the screen.

I was wondering how all of this would go over when I watched the film the other night. And, it turns out, “The Girl” has created a bit of controversy. Head inside for more. READ MORE

[TV] Rutger Hauer Spooks Bon Temps In “True Blood’s” Season 6

“True Blood” has made its first major Season 6 hire, with vet Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner, Hobo with a Shotgun) joining the HBO smash as a series regular, TVLine reports.

Hauer will play Macklyn, a mysterious and sinister figure with deep ties to Sookie and Jason.

Hauer is well known for his portrayal of Blade Runner‘s Roy Batty, a renegade robot trying to evade capture in Ridley Scott’s classic sci-fi film. But the Dutch actor has a varied resume that includes parts in movies like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Batman Begins and Sin City and guest roles in TV’s “Smallville” and “Alias”.

True Blood’s sixth season is slated to premiere in June 2013.

TV: [Next On] “True Blood” Preview Clips Prove Why Show Continues To Suck (Pun Intended)

Last August I literally lost my sh*t in regards to HBO’s “True Blood.” I watched my favorite show on cable transcend into madness as it made all of the same mistakes as the abomination known as “Heroes.” HBO has learned nothing, absolutely nothing.

The cabler has released a pair of clips for “True Blood” Episode 59 “Sunset”, which literally made my stomach turn. First, Jason Stackhouse almost turned into a wolf, now they’re taunting viewers with the notion that he may become a vampire? By the time the show ends every single person in Bontemp will be “undead” or a creature of the night. That’s boring. Not to mentioned nearly every character has made a heel turn at least once. Boring.

With two episodes left, HBO shared the plot for Season 5′s Episode 11 ‘Sunset’ (Episode #59): “Sookie probes an ancient family secret with help from a faerie elder; Jessica is an unwilling participant in Bill’s ongoing religious conversion; Alcide reconnects with his father; the military uses a video of Russell and Steve Newlin as ammunition; Sam and Luna hitch a ride into the Authority.” Air Date: Aug 19, 2012 Guest Cast Robert Patrick: Jackson Herveaux Joe Manganiello: Alcide Herveaux Valentina Cervi: Salome Lucy Griffiths: Nora Kristina Anapau: Maurella

TV: [Next On] Synopsis For “Dexter” Premiere; “True Blood” Image Teases Bill’s “Master Plan”…

Showtime has released the plot synopsis for “Dexter” Episode 7.01: “Are You….?”

After witnessing her brother kill Travis Marshall, Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) attempts to reconcile with Dexter (Michael C. Hall) while struggling to cover up their involvement with the murder. Meanwhile, Detective Mike Anderson has an unfortunate run-in, Quinn and Batista begin to make amends, and LaGuerta finds evidence that causes her to re-think the closed Bay Harbor Butcher case.

In addition, TVline has a new image from “True Blood” that teases Bill’s “master plan.” As the site explains, look at the shiftiness in Bill’s eyes as he hovers over that vial of precious Lilith’s blood. They believe that he’s about to do an about-face, betray Salome and Co., and save the world. So, has Bill been a good guy all along? Probably, which is why “True Blood” continues to suffer from “Heroes” syndrome. READ MORE

And if you thought Hitchcock’s films were intense, Jones tells the site, wait until you see the legendary director’s obsession with then-showbiz neophyte Hedren unfold on screen. The actor, whose career includes The Hunger Games, My Week With Marilyn and W., notes that Hitchcock first noticed the blonde beauty in a commercial and soon wanted no one but her to play The Birds’ lead Melanie – a part Hitchcock referred to as “the girl.”

He knew every single aspect of filmmaking, and I think he thought, ‘Well, I’ll just make her into a good enough actress,” Jones says. “‘She has limitations as an actress, but I’m so able and so practical that I will be able to transform her to my needs.’

TV: [Next On] “True Blood” Episode #57, “Everybody Wants To Rule The World”

Tonight, HBO aired a preview from the upcoming 57th episode of “True Blood”, “Everybody Wants To Rule The World.” Like I said last week, I made it about 4 episodes in before I had to pull the plug on the season. You know what I want to see? A spinoff about Jessica. It’s not like I’ve watched every episode of the show (not claiming to be an expert) – but she seems like the most fleshed out character to me. If they could create a show that focussed on her instead of Sookie and Bill, and turned down the camp a little bit, that might be more fun.

In episode #57, “As the Authority proceeds with Lilith’s plan, Eric plots his escape. Gran directs Sookie to a clue to her parents’ murderer. Andy and Jason search for leads to the identities of the people behind the shifter killings. Alcide recalls his pack induction; Arlene gets caught in Terry and Patrick’s crossfire; Steve gets a new pet.

TV: More Sex & Violence As HBO Renews “True Blood” For Sixth Season

With the fifth season in full swing, HBO has unsurprisingly announced that they’ve renewed “True Blood” for a sixth season, which will begin shooting in January 2013 for a summer premiere. Executives celebrated by dousing themselves in blood and having sex all over the office. But not really.

As previously reported by THR, the season premiere of HBO series kicked off with 5.2 million viewers during its inaugural 9 p.m. ET broadcast. Adding the total from its 11 p.m. encore, the episode grossed 6.3 million viewers for the night. It marks a 4 percent decline since last summer’s premiere but a 3 percent increase vs. its Season 4 finale.

In the show, “Following the creation of synthetic blood, vampires have progressed from legendary monsters to fellow citizens overnight. Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) is a telepath and waitress at Merlotte’s in the small Louisiana town of Bon Temps, owned by Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell), a shapeshifter—though this secret is kept hidden. One night, Sookie meets Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), a handsome 173-year-old vampire who has returned to Bon Temps following the death of his last remaining relative. As she cannot hear his thoughts, she finds it easy to be in his company and, over the first season, the two become romantically involved.” -Wiki
