[Reaction] Black Jewish Rapper Y-Love Comes Out Of The Closet

Yesterday, CNN reported that Yitz “Y-Love” Jordan, a black Jewish rapper from New York, had come out of the closet. Jordan admitted that doing so might very well cost him some fans but, at the same time, he was never one to hide his sexual orientation. Rather, he has “…always known when to be in the closet and when not to.”

“I feel like I have wasted years of my life worrying that my ‘public reputation’ will be negatively impacted by my identity. Now that I’m over 30, I simply can’t care as much about what people think, despite the prospect of alienating the community I dedicated my life to as an artist and a man. My hope is it will open their eyes – and hearts.”

Originally of Puerto Rican and Ethiopian descent, Jordan converted to Hasidic Judaism in 2000 before studying Jewish values and beliefs in Jerusalem. READ MORE

[LOL] NSFW: What Hip Hop Taught Me

Alright, I have to admit that I’m not the biggest hip hop/rap fan. It’s just not a genre that really appeals to me. I like hearing instruments interact with one another. I like big dynamics in my music, from really quiet during the verses to huge “wall of sound” situations during the choruses. Things like that. However, that being said, there are definitely hip hop groups that I’m pretty okay with putting on now and again.

But one problem I have with mainstream hip hop/rap is the misogyny, the glorification of violence, and the seemingly unwarranted need to boast and brag about the wealth of the artists. Sorry, none of that is anything that I find myself remotely able to connect with.

Enter YouTube sensation Jenna Marbles, who has a slightly different way to look at these lyrical themes, one that I find incredibly humorous and well worth sharing. Warning: the video below is chock full of swearing, so don’t go watching this at work. READ MORE

[OMFG] Metallica Meets Jay-Z In ‘Double Black’

[OMFG] Metallica Meets Jay Z In Double Black
BamBeatz, a up-and-coming hip hop producer from Florida, has decided to celebrate the 20th anniversary release of Metallica‘s self-titled album (often referred to as The Black Album) and the 10th anniversary of Jay-Z‘s Black by combining the two into a mixtape. The first track, Moment Of Clarity, can be heard below and is also available for free download.
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not the biggest hip hop fan but creativity in music is something I’m always excited to hear about. That being said, this track started out pretty sweet but quickly devolved into the “boring” territory. Metallica is known as a metal band, not a band that plays the same riff over and over and over and over… Rather, they are a band that uses dynamics to create multi-layered songs. If you’re planning on using the music of Metallica and the vocals of Jay-Z, how about actually using the music of Metallica the way it is meant to be heard: nice and heavy!

Gorillaz Release New Track ‘Do Ya Thing’: Offer Free Download

gorillazdoyathing2012 Gorillaz Release New Track Do Ya Thing: Offer Free Download
Gorillaz have released a new track entitled Do Ya Thing that features Andre 3000 (Outkast) and James Taylor. They are also giving fans the chance to download it for free HERE. You can listen to the track below and give your thoughts in the comments.
Personally, nothing from them is going to top Clint Eastwood or Feel Good, INC. Both of those songs were incredible and I have yet to get sick of them. This track, while good, isn’t anything special. It just doesn’t have the same spark, the same magic, that I’m used to hearing from them. Ah well, here’s hoping that whatever else comes out will blow my socks off.

Strange Music Is Haunted

strangemusicprozak Strange Music Is Haunted
If the video below is any indication, there have been some mighty strange things going on at Strange Music, the record label that boasts such artists as Tech N9ne and Brotha Lynch Hung. People are seeing shadows that shouldn’t be there, flashing lights, objects moving on their own, and creepy hip hop artists standing in merch aisles. Clearly, something is off.

[LOL] Beyoncé Forced To Give Baby To Witch Who Granted Her Fame

beyoncetheonionwitchbaby [LOL] Beyoncé Forced To Give Baby To Witch Who Granted Her Fame
The Internet’s most reliable news source (sarcasm) The Onion is reporting that Beyoncé is being forced to give up her new baby girl, Blue Ivy, to Grisora, the witch that granted her fame and success when Beyoncé was just a young girl. The RnB singer gave birth to the child a few days ago with father Jay-Z in attendance. According to the news report, Jay-Z reportedly offered the witch a room full of gold to keep her at bay. Alas, the offer was denied. It should also be noted that the witch Grisora bears a striking resemblance to the gypsy woman from Drag Me To Hell.
Seriously though, this video had me laughing quite heartily. I recommend you check it out below.

Coachella 2012 Lineup Announced: I Shall Not Be Going

The official lineup for the 2012 Coachella music festival has been unveiled and I can safely say that I have absolutely no interest in it whatsoever. Let me tell you which bands I’d like to see: Radiohead, At The Drive-In…and I’m done. There are honestly no other acts that would make me even consider heading out.

The festival will happen the weekend of April 13th as well as again on the weekend of April 20th. Tickets will go on sale this Friday at 10am PST on the official site (which is currently down due to a massive surge of Internet-goers). The minimum option is a three-day pass for $285 while the VIP treatment will set you back $665. For those of you who travel, the smartest option is the general pass that includes a hotel shuttle, which goes for $335. All of these prices are before convenience charges set in, so expect to tack on another eight bazillion dollars for that (I’m joking…but only a little bit. Am I right???).
Maybe it’s because music festivals have never been my thing, but I just cannot fathom the idea of standing in a sweaty, muddy, nasty, smelly crowd for three days while being aurally blasted by band after band. Wow…did I just make that sound like some perverted Japanese porno or what?
Check out the full lineup below.

Coheed And Cambria, Mastodon, More Cover ZZ Top

When I think of great beards in music, ZZ Top is pretty much always going to come to the top of the list. If you disagree with me on that point then your taste in beards is sorely lacking. Yes, people can have a taste in beards, look it up. Well, some bands apparently had the same thought process as I did because they got together to record A Tribute From Friends, an album comprised of covers of some of ZZ Top’s most famous songs. Some of the artists included on this tribute are Nickelback, Mastodon, Wyclef Jean, Wolfmother, Coheed & Cambria, and more.

[OMFG] Boy Fights Nightmare After Nightmare

Movies like The Goonies and Monster Squad will always have a special place in my heart. They show children rising up and facing their fears head on, determined to make it through their journey and emerge, grown and hardened, out the other side. That’s why I really resonated with the new music video, Boogie Man, from Grieves. It shows a boy arming himself with bubble wrap armor, a pot helmet, and a toy boy and arrow. He then proceeds to face some admittedly creepy nightmarish creatures. The music actually really works super well for this video and I’m not normally a guy who is into much hip hop.

All that being said, I highly recommend you check out the video after the jump and remember the days of your youth when you were ready to face anything.

But after the jump, you’ll find a video for one of the gems off the album, Sleeping Giants. This was one of my favorite tracks off the album and features one of my favorite lines: “A real voice/A voice for youth/A voice for truth/A voice for you/A real voice that ain’t mutha f*cking auto-tune!” What an awesome line! There is so much that can be picked up from that!

Anyway, check out the awesome video after the jump and don’t forget to check out Hyro’s Top 10 Horror Movies as well!
