Exclusive: Read ‘Echoes’ #1 For FREE

Before Joshua Fialkov was penning the pages of DC’s hit “I, Vampire” series, he wrote a little series for Image/Top Cow Comics alongside Rahsan Ekedal called Echoes. This book is horrifying, and scares you in ways you couldn’t imagine.

“Echoes” follows the story of Brian Cohn as he battles with schizophrenia. Unfortunately for Brian, the meds don’t solve all his issues as he discovers that he has inherited his father’s serial killer instincts. It’s an intense ride down a blazing road of insanity that will remain ingrained in your mind long after you’ve read the final page. The trade is available in stores now, and it comes highly recommended.

Read the entire first issue of “Echoes” for free courtesy of our friends at Graphicly below. READ MORE

Nostalgia Horror In Gary Gianni’s Monstermen And Other Scary Stories

For those of you who don’t know Gary Gianni, quite simply, you should. His brilliant black and white line art brings up all sorts of nostalgia for classic horror comics, films, and novels. Monstermen offers an absurdest tale about the wealthy film director Lawrence St. George and his quests to stop every monster you could ever imagine. It’s like Ugly Americans mixed with the best of Hitchcock. Check out a preview of the beautiful artwork and story below. Read on for the skinny…

Pick Of The Week: ‘Creepy’ #7

I’m so f*cking sick of hearing “horror is dead”. Do people honestly believe this? I know not everyone is quite so querulous, but to those people who believe that horror is a dying breed, you are either completely ignorant, or you have some impossibly high standards set for creators, and you should probably just write something yourself. Do you even pay attention to the books/movies that are being released? Every week I am overwhelmed by the incredible amount of horror stories out there, and to choose only one for my Pick of the Week becomes more and more difficult. I’m not saying that every horror title written is worth a read that would be a lie. Some are unintelligible, trite, nonsensical, but maybe instead of whining you should expose yourself to the incredible modern horror works that are out there. Rant over. Here is my pick of the week.

Interview: Scott Snyder And Scott Tuft On ‘Severed’

Scott Snyder is a literary giant and needs no introduction, but Scott Tuft is new blood in the comic book world, and together they are forging one of the most breathtakingly creepy books out there. SEVERED is the tall tale of a young boy in the early 20th century who runs away from home only to discover the greater horrors that await him on the outside.

Deemed by Snyder as a “historical horror” story, SEVERED evokes a certain sense of nostalgia for simpler times, while simultaneously bringing to light the utter terror that was dwelling beneath the surface. This is book will creep up on you when you least expect it, it will become the little voice inside your head, it will become the subtextual substance of your nightmares.

Now on issue 6 of a 7-part miniseries, the creative team has nearly completed their eerie adult fairy-tale. Snyder and Tuft sat down with Bloody-Disgusting to discuss the origins of the story, the difficulties of writing for a large audience, and the pleasure of writing horror comics.
