[Horror In Your House] July 14th, 2012

This week has a bevy of films that are now available for to line the shelves of your home, but there’s not many that I’d actually want up there for all to see. In fact, outside of Silent House, which deservedly received mixed reviews, I’d say stay away and save your money for something you really like. For the record, I really truly enjoyed the first 2 acts of the aforementioned Elizabeth Olsen thriller, its wasn’t until the messy third act that I ended up with mixed feelings. Still though, you could do much worse.

100th STREET HAUNTING (THE GHOST OF RICHARD SPECK) (Blu-ray) – The Asylum Entertainment

In 2010, paranormal investigators tried to film Richard Speck’s ghost at the site of his heinous killing spree. The victims’ families have finally released the footage that documents their last days.

MICAH SAYS: The Asylum started the year hot with Nazis from the Center of the Earth and Two-Headed Shark Attack, but this one is back to form. By form I mean horrible and almost unwatchable. Those other two I mentioned are bad yes, but fun bad. Big difference.

BATHORY: COUNTESS OF BLOOD – Screen Media Films

With an unquenchable thirst for blood, Countess Elizabeth Bathory was one of the most prolific serial killers in history. Tearing flesh from bodies and bathing in warm blood, she delighted in an unholy quest for immortality while her country was being torn apart by a brutal and devastating civil war. Told on a grand scale in the 17th Century, Bathory is based on the true story of her rise and fall. READ MORE

[Horror In Your House] July 9th, 2012

This week Warner Home Video decided to release or re-release a ton of sci-fi, thrillers and horror flicks into the ever-expanding ocean of Blus. While some flicks probably didn’t need another release (Blade II) others desperately did (Spawn). Either way, they are all value priced and looking for forever shelves in your pad. Outside of Warner’s contribution to the week the only other thing that caught my eye is Synapse’s release of another Hammer Horror classic, The Twins of Evil. Check out the rest of the releases below and have a great week.

ALTERED STATES (Blu-ray) – Warner Home Video

A scientist experiments unlock the horrors of his mind. Visual wizard Ken Russell directs William Hurt, Blair Brown and a mind-blowing array of special effects.

THE ASTRONAUT’S WIFE (Blu-ray) – Warner Home Video

A woman becomes embroiled in a mystery after her astronaut husband suffers an accident and retires as a hero from the space program. When he begins acting strangely, she must decide whether his odd behavior is all in her mind, or if he is no longer the man she once knew. READ MORE

[Horror In Your House] July 3rd, 2012

This week doesn’t contain a large number of releases, but what it lacks in volume it more than makes up for in quality. Literally, for the first time ever I am buying every movie listed below. First on my list is The Entity which is finally being released on Blu-ray by Anchor Bay. On top of that, crowd pleaser Some Guy Who Kills People has arrived along with Bobcat Goldthwait’s latest piece of demented cinema, God Bless America. But that’s not all, the AMAZING Tasmanian Tiger hunting flick, Hunter starring Willem DaFoe and Sam Neil is also out. Almost too much goodness for one week.

Happy 4th of July, Everyone!

THE ENTITY (DVD / Blu-ray) (1982) – Anchor Bay

Entity [Horror In Your House] July 3rd, 2012Oscar-nominee Barbara Hershey (Black Swan, Insidious) stars as Carla Moran, a hard-working single mother until the night she is raped in her bedroom by someone — or something — that she cannot see. Despite skeptical psychiatrists, she is repeatedly attacked in her car, in the bath, and in front of her children. Could this be a case of hysteria, a manifestation of childhood sexual trauma, or something even more horrific? Now with a group of daring parapsychologists,Carla will attempt an unthinkable experiment: to seduce, trap and ultimately capture the depraved spectral fury that is THE ENTITY. Ron Silver (Reversal of Fortune, Ali) co-stars in this supernatural shocker directed by Sidney J. Furie (Iron Eagle, The Ipcress File) from a screenplay by Frank De Felitta (Audrey Rose), based on his bestselling novel.

MICAH SAYS: CO-PICK OF THE WEEK. One of the finest horror flicks on the entire 1980s (and near the top of my all time list). Heck, even Martin Scorsese has this in his top ten horror flicks of all time. Ghost Rape for president.

GOD BLESS AMERICA (DVD / Blu-ray) – Magnolia Home Entertainment

Frank (Joel Murray) has had enough of the downward spiral of American culture. Divorced, recently fired, and possibly terminally ill, Frank feels he has nothing left to live for. However, instead of taking his own life, he embarks on a killing spree with cohort Roxy (Tara Lynne Barr), who shares his sense of rage and disenfranchisement, and together they embark on a nation-wide assault on our country s dumbest, most irritating celebrities.

MICAH SAYS: I’m including this movie because you need to see it. Period. Bobcat Goldthwait’s directing chops are getting progressively better and better.

HUNTER (DVD / Blu-ray) – Magnolia Home Entertainment

Martin David, a skilled and focused mercenary, is sent into the Tasmanian wilderness on a hunt for a tiger believed to be extinct. Hired by an anonymous company that wants the tiger’s genetic material, Martin arrives in Tasmania posing as a scientist. He proceeds to set up base camp at a broken-down farmhouse, where he stays with a family whose father has gone missing. Usually a loner, Martin becomes increasingly close to the family. However, as his attachment to the family grows, he is led down a path of unforeseen dangers, complicating his deadly mission.

MICAH SAYS: CO-PICK OF THE WEEK. Like The Grey , but with even more existentialism. This one isn’t going to be for everyone as it is the definition of a slow burn, but it’s once it traps your attention you are in for an absolute treat. Willem DaFoe delivers one of his best and most devastating performances to date. In my top five for they year.

SOME GUY WHO KILLS PEOPLE – Anchor Bay

At first glance, Ken Boyd may seem like an average comic enthusiast, living with his mother and working to make ends meet as an underpaid, underappreciated ice cream parlor attendant. But Ken has a dirty little secret: he fantasizes about killing people. After being released from a stay in the loony bin, for severe mental trauma suffered when he was beaten and tortured by a gang of high school thugs, Ken’s repressed anger suddenly reaches a boiling point. With gleeful enthusiasm Ken hunts down his tormentors, one by one, and exacts his bloody revenge.

MICAH SAYS: Another movie that everyone should watch. It’s funny, dark and full of awesome.

Horror In Your House: June 19th, 2012

This week is filled with a bunch of Z-grade releases that, quite frankly, you probably aren’t interested in. The highlight of the week is Exit Humanity, which is like the live action movie version of the Undead Nightmare expansion pack for Red Dead Redemption. Nothing else caught my eye as worthy this week, but Father’s Day from Troma should be out next Tuesday – that is if it isn’t pushed back again. Let me know what you plan on picking up and have a great week.

THE AWAKENED (2012) – FilmWorks Entertainment

On the outskirts of a small mountain town, retired farmer Hank Taylor decides to pull down an old dead tree that sits on the edge of his property. Hank soon discovers something strange buried in the ground beneath…something large, metallic and not of this earth. Dormant for over 200 years, the object s power returns, resurrecting the hibernating occupants from a long slumber and turning the Taylor farm into an arena of heart-pounding terror. As the inhabitants of the farm take refuge in the secluded farm house, a group of mysterious covert government agents callously monitors the situation. Why have the Aliens traveled to Earth? Are the Government Agents hiding something? The Awakened is a science-fiction horror story with a blend of classic Sci-fi elements and special effects from award-winning Creature Effects Inc (Cowboys & Aliens, 300, I am Legend). READ MORE

[Horror In Your House] June 11th, 2012

A Hollywood box office bomb, and a handful of “swing and misses” fill out this week’s Horror In Your House. Nic Cage’s Ghost Rider sequel is here, but you probably don’t care and I wouldn’t blame you. And Monster Brawl, a UFC style monster fighting spoof, rings it way into stores. Check out the rest of the releases below and let me know what you’re picking up.

THE DARK CRSYTAL / LABRYNTH (Blu-Ray) (1986) – Sony Pictures
Jim Henson’s beloved fantasy films together on Blu-ray in a collectible box set featuring new art by Brian Froud.

DEVILMAN (2004) – Tokyo Shock
Best friends Akira and Ryo (played by real-life twins Hisato & Yusuke Izaki) are just your average high school students until they receive word that Ryo s father has accidentally unleashed a horde of demons while conducting experiments in Antarctica. Akira becomes Devilman, a powerful entity who somehow retains his human conscience, and it is up to him to battle with the heartless demons including his erstwhile friend Ryo in a climactic, apocalyptic showdown! [Horror In Your House] May 29th, 2012

I’m playing a little catch up this week meaning today’s article combines this week’s films plus selected films from the last couple weeks (screw moving btw). The big hitter this week is We Need to Talk About Kevin. It’s certainly not your standard horror flick, but it is deeply unsettling – more so than anything else on the list. The Asylum cashes in on the Abraham Lincoln hype, pitting the president against zombies, a couple more Jean Rollin sexy vamp flicks hit Blu-ray and if you haven’t checked it out yet, Hammer Horror’s wonderful throwback ghost story, The Woman in Black has been available for a couple weeks now. Check out the rest below and let me know what you’re planning on picking up. READ MORE

Horror In Your House: April 24th, 2012

Micah of 365HorrorMovie returns with this week’s “Horror In Your House,” which is jam-packed with genre goodness.

The The Innkeepers is here! Ti West’s ghost story is out on Blu and DVD along with a slew of other interesting films this week. A sequel almost 40 years in the making, The Wicker Tree, makes it’s way across the pond. Spoiler: It sucks. Asylum brings us a story about love and Nazis at the Center of the Earth. In news of the weird, The Theater Bizarre is also available. And The Fields which features corn fields and Tara Reid.

Plenty of choices this week, people. The question is: What are you going to pick up? READ MORE

Horror In Your House: April 10th, 2012

The Dark Shadows hype has led to a full release of the series by MPI. Yeah, all 1200+ episodes on 131 discs. I wonder if anyone has seen every episode? At 457 hours it’s just slight longer than the extended editions of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Slightly. In other news there are a couple low budget flicks from Media Blasters and Anchor Bay that might interest you, but it’s unlikely. It’s been a rather blah last couple weeks. – Micah

CHILDREN OF THE GRAVE II – Spooked Television Releasing

From acclaimed filmmakers The Booth Brothers creators of Death Tunnel (Sony Pictures), Spooked, The Possessed, Children Of The Grave, The Haunted Boy as seen on SyFy and Chiller. This shocking new paranormal, documentary film continues the true hauntings of ghost children and their emotional stories of the supernatural. Featuring never before seen real ghost evidence. Emotional, Supernatural and Scary. Jump for your Afterlife!

MICAH SAYS: There was a Children of the Grave I? Huh. Never heard of it. Anyone?

DARK SHADOWS: THE COMPLETE ORIGINAL SERIES – MPI HOME VIDEO

This limited edition boxed set contains every eerie episode of the original Gothic suspense series DARK SHADOWS (1966-1971) plus a wealth of bonus interviews with the stars and creative members that made the supernatural thriller a cult favorite and an enduring television classic.

MICAH SAYS: I’ve been watching this show a bit on Netflix Instant (it starts with Barnabas (aka Johnny Depp’s new role) introduction into the series and I quite like it. It’s ridiculous, clearly made on the cheap, but it’s got a charm that draws you in. This set is a WHOPPING 131 DVDs with all 1,225 episodes and looks like a mini coffin. That is flat out staggering. Bravo, MPI.Bravo. PICK OF THE WEEK (if you can afford it).

DEATH STOP HOLOCAUST (DVD, Blu-ray) – Media Blasters Inc

Two young women escape to their father’s summer home on a remote island for a vacation getaway. As they travel deeper onto the island, a nightmare unfolds when a group of masked assailants begins to trap, torment, and torture
their prey.

GHOST STORIES: THE COMPLETE SERIES – Timeless Media Group

When the soul of the deceased revisits the living, we call it a ghost. Sometimes it appears as an ethereal mist or a shadow, sometimes as a vague likeness of the deceased, sometimes as only a sound. Ghost Stories is a drama series about visits from beyond the grave. Forty-four spine tingling episodes of the eerie, the supernatural and the downright unbelievable…but true!

RAT SCRATCH FEVER – Media Blasters Inc.

Brought back from a doomed space mission, an army of giant rats develops a big appetite for Los Angeles residents! Filmed using miniature sets, puppets, and green screens.

THE TERROR EXPERIMENT (DVD, Blu-ray) – Anchor Bay

When a virus is released in the Federal Building, causing employees to instantly become aggressive, a group of the uninfected must band together and fight to get out with their lives. But time is running out. The adrenal system of those infected has kicked into overdrive, and a government conspiracy threatens to take the building.

THOU SHALL NOT KILL…EXCEPT (Blu-ray) – Synapse Films

Vietnam, 1969. War is Hell. For Marine Sergeant Jack Stryker (Brian Schulz), however, Hell is just the beginning. Trapped outside a Viet Cong village, Stryker takes two bullets to the leg. Sent home from the war, he discovers his ex-girlfriend (Cheryl Hausen) has been kidnapped by a religious cult with a vicious Manson-like leader (played by THE EVIL DEAD and SPIDER-MAN trilogy director, Sam Raimi). Stryker teams up with some marine friends to form an assassination squad and annihilate the gang of crazed killers. Synapse Films is proud to present THOU SHALT NOT KILL… EXCEPT in an all-new 2K high-definition transfer from the original negative. Directed by Josh Becker, this must-see (Detroit Free Press) cult classic features many of the people responsible for THE EVIL DEAD, including co-writer Bruce Campbell, writer/producer Scott Spiegel, composer Joseph LoDuca and actors Ted Raimi and Sam Raimi.

MICAH SAYS: For The Evil Dead completists out there. Figured there might be a little interest in this flick on Blu.

Horror In Your House: March 27th, 2012

Horror In Your House: March 27th, 2012

A slow week for big horror titles, but there is an interesting Roger Corman documentary, Corman’s World, which is definitely worth a watch for the fans of all things low budget and sleazy. Which should be everyone reading this. Enjoy your week and check out the rest of the releases below.

CAMEL SPIDERS (DVD/Blu-ray) Anchor Bay Home Entertainment

Based on actual creatures that, for years, have tormented our armed forces in the Middle East, Camel Spiders have now invaded the southwestern deserts of the United States, freely hunting for prey and unafraid of any predator – including man. No place is safe, no one is beyond their paralyzing sting. In the end, a small band of hearty fighters are forced to make one last stand against the creatures.

MICAH SAYS: Are these even real?I always thought the pictures of giant Camel Spiders were Web hoaxes circa 2002. Of course, if they were real that would be bad ass. Too bad this movie has awful CGI. READ MORE

Horror In Your House: March 20th, 2012

Horror In Your House: March 20th, 2012

Battle Royale on Blu-ray is finally here thanks to Anchor Bay. And it’s just in time for you to watch again before the PG-13 version Hunger Games hits theaters. In other news, the most despised horror flick of 2011 is available for purchase. That film is none other than Creature. There’s also some rumors out there (and a few confirmed cases) that C.H.U.D. 2 and Ghoulies 3 have been dumped on DVD for the first time (North America) in a 8-pack combo available at select Walmarts. Fans of those flicks might want to do some digging thru the bargain bins.

BATTLE ROYALE (DVD / Blu-ray) (Complete Edition and Regular) – Anchor Bay

42 high school students are forced to kill each other on an uninhabited island.

MICAH SAYS: Most obvious PICK OF THE WEEK in some time. I had the chance to watch and review the Blu-ray. Some notes: The quality ranges from stunning to atrocious, with the artifacting being very noticeable and distracting in places (I watched the Director’s Cut). The audio, on the other hand, is great throughout. Even with a few small nitpicks, it’s still the biggest must buy of the year so far. The Complete Edition contains the sequel and a considerable amount of special features.

CREATURE – Arc Entertainment

Revolves around a group of family and friends who, en route to New Orleans, are sidetracked in the Louisiana bayou and encounter a monster named Lockjaw who is revered by the locals as a god.

MICAH SAYS: The people responsible for this crap love to defend it. Creature is undeniably garbage. The most recent “in defense” was written by one of the actors and he basically said viewers approached this film wrong with too critical of a lens. Well, here’s what I expected: An old school monster movie with genre favorite Sid Haig. Here’s what I got: A piece of nonsensical sh*t featuring Sid Haig. And I didn’t’ see this in an empty theater, I saw it how the filmmakers intended, at a packed theater (only full because it was free/radio promo thing). Almost everyone there left howling at the awfulness (if they didn’t dart out early). This was before all the negative hype started appearing on the web. Bottom line: Creature is a sh*tty movie and rightfully earned every one of it’s “Worst of the Year” awards. Move on, get tougher skin and make a better movie next time. Horror fans are a forgiving bunch.

DELIVERANCE FROM EVIL – Pumpkin Patch Pictures

A couple leave everything behind moving to San Francisco with their son. When they lose him in a tragic accident, they realize there’s an evil presence that doesn’t want them there. Forced to come to grips with the supernatural reality haunting them, they seek the help of a psychic to get rid of the evil spirit.

FUNERAL HOME (1981) – CFS Releasing

The 1980s retro horror classic! Young and easily frightened 16-year old Heather is called to stay with her grandmother in the hopes of helping her turn an old funeral home into a bed-and-breakfast. But strange happenings and unexplained murders around the home quickly make this vacation spot a “dead-and-breakfast” – with no answers as to who or what is causing all the death. Well-executed gloomy thriller in the Hitchcock vein. READ MORE

Horror In Your House: March 6th, 2012

Horror In Your House: March 6th, 2012

This week’s release list is a short one, but have no fear Deadheads is here…to make you laugh and fall in love. Also available to crash into your home is Ed Wood’s infamous classic Plan 9 From Outer Space on Blu-ray. Yes, someone somewhere said to themselves, “Man, you know what movie should be on Blu? Plan 9?” Even crazier, someone agreed and made it a reality. All I can say to those brave thinkers is, “Thank you, you crazy bastards.”

DEADHEADS (pictured above) – Freestyle Digital Media

Two zombie slackers, Mike and Brent, find themselves surprisingly reborn from the dead amid a disastrous zombie outbreak. After discovering an engagement ring in his coat pocket, Mike enlists his new found zombie pal, Brent, to embark on a quest in search of his lost love. What ensues is a hilarious cross country road trip as these two reformed flesh-eating pals hitch-hike across the country as they are pursued by a team of zombie killin’ bounty hunters!

MICAH SAYS: Initially touted as the American Shaun of the Dead, which is isn’t. It is, however, a fun zomedy that centers more on romance than horror. Sure, some of the jokes fall flat, but there is plenty to like in the affectionate homage. PICK OF THE WEEK

PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE (Blu-ray) – Legend Films, Inc

Hailed as the worst film of all time, Ed Woods cult classic Plan 9 From Outer Space is one of the most hilariously entertaining movies you will ever see. Aliens fear the human race will develop a deadly ‘solaranite bomb.’ After eight failed attempts, Plan 9 is their scheme to reanimate earth s dead to build a zombie army and stop the earthlings from destroying the universe. With string powered flying saucers, twisted alien logic and ‘priceless’ special effects, it is a movie mission destined for success, or not!

MICAH SAYS: Yes, because this film NEEDS to be on Blu-ray. I’ve seen this film a couple times and it’s bad charm is undeniable. I am curious to how the transfer looks, not that it matters one bit. This movie is a jumbled mess of interplanetary proportions. Much love.

REQUIEM FOR THE DAMNED – Hannover House

Edgar Allan Poe. For nearly two hundred years his stories of the macabre have shocked and terrified audiences. And now, inspired by five of Poe’s most terrifying tales, five filmmakers have banded together to create the ultimate tribute to the master: Edgar Allan Poe’s Requiem For The Damned – featuring adaptations of : The Fall of the House of Usher, The Pit and the Pendulum, The Black Cat, The Tell-Tale Heart and The Murders in the Rue Morgue.

MICAH SAYS: POE. What was that movie that had Vincent Price playing a part in three separate Poe stories? I want to watch that again. As for this effort, my thought is you can never have enough Poe in your life. Certainly worth a rent / Netflix. READ MORE

Horror In Your House: February 28th, 2012

This week doesn’t bring much in the way of releases outside of the Dennis Quaid vehicle, Beneath the Darkness, which pretty much no one liked. The Israeli horror flick, Rabies, looks to be the best film out (though I haven’t seen it) of the bunch. It’s garnered mostly positive reviews since its North American premier at Tribeca last year.

Are you picking up anything this week? I’m skipping purchases this week and trying to watch all the Starz movies in my Netflix Instant queue before they expire on March 1st. READ MORE

Horror In Your House: Feb 21st, 2012

No big studio films this week, but there are plenty of indie choices to take a look it. On the TV front “The Fades,” a BBC themed horror show, is now out on DVD and Blu. It’s good. Believe. I haven’t seen anything else on the list, but am curious about Inkubus, the latest Robert Englund flick. It’s garnered some attention as it’s being lauded as return to the nasty and sadistic for Englund. Are you picking up anything this week? READ MORE

Horror In Your House: February 14th, 2012

The Valentine’s Day edition of Horror In Your House is here which means a Human Centipede movie is on shelves. That could be the start of an interesting tradition courtesy of Tom Six. The Dead, a zombie flick shot in unique locations across Africa is out as well. And for those looking for a little love, Nude Nuns With Big Guns is sure to make your heart race. Enjoy! I think I am going to watch My Bloody Valentine (original) for my horror viewing today. READ MORE

Horror In Your House: January 30th, 2012

Horror In Your House: January 30th, 2012

This week brings the releases of the much ballyhooed The Thing prequel along with the Daniel Craig vehicle Dream House. Also out and finally getting a proper DVD release is the indie DIY flick with an undeniably great name, Dead Hooker In A Trunk. If you’re not down for anything this week, get off your couch and go watch Liam Neeson punch wolves in The Grey. It’s amazing and worth every penny. READ MORE

Horror In Your House: January 17th, 2012

Horror In Your House: January 17th, 2012 A couple indie horror flicks have made their way to release this week and, well, that’s about it. Both films have a decidedly South of the border flavor to them (One out of Argentina, the other takes place around the US/Mexico border).

COLD SWEAT (Sudor Frio) – Dark Sky Films

When Roman’s girlfriend disappears, he expects to find her in the arms of another man. And find her he does but there is no lover on the scene, only a pair of crazy old men keeping her locked away in the basement of their crumbling mansion. Armed with wild-eyed political ideals and case after case of decades-old and highly unstable dynamite, the villainous duo are conducting illicit experiments on a string of young women lured to their home via the internet. If Roman cannot free his young love, she is likely to end up in pieces, thanks in part to a generous slathering of nitro-glycerine.

MICAH SAYS: Can’t say anything about the movie as I haven’t seen it yet, but the poster was one of my favorites of last year (Google: “Sudor Frio Poster”. It’s the one with the red gas mask). The film has, however, been generating positive buzz ever since screening at SXSW in 2011.

UNDOCUMENTED – IFC Independent

There are estimates that over a million people attempt to cross illegally from Mexico to the United States every year – some succeed, some don’t. Aspiring director Travis (Scott Mechlowicz, Peaceful Warrior, Euro Trip) and his crew make the journey themselves in order to chronicle the phenomenon of undocumented immigration, but after crossing the border seemingly unnoticed they encounter a band of violent right-wing radicals determined to carry out the sort of ‘justice’ that the legal system cannot.

MICAH SAYS: One of my favorite films of last year. It barely missed out on being in my Top Ten. No matter what side of the fence you’re on there’s plenty to enjoy here. And speaking of posters, this one has a funny tongue in cheek knockoff of the Facebook movie AND a bad ass Uncle Sam poster as well. PICK OF THE WEEK. READ MORE

Horror In Your House: January 10th, 2012

The major studios took the week off, but there are plenty of low-budget direct-to-disc options for those of you jonesin’ for something new, including an interesting looking Battle Royale type film from Tokyo Shock. Outside of that, I don’t see much in the way of recommendations unless you wanna pick up the recent remakes of the Freddy and Jason series on one Blu disc. Have a great week. READ MORE

Horror In Your House: January 3rd, 2012

Happy New Year! Hope you all successfully navigated your NYE and, most importantly, that none of you now require an interlock device to start your vehicle. This is a light week on the release front, but we do get two high profile flicks from last year. First up is the Guillermo Del Toro produced (semi-directed) remake of the famous ’70s made for TV horror flick, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. Also washing up to shore this week is Shark Night 3D. Horror In Your House: December 13th, 2011

Horror In Your House: December 13th, 2011

This week’s releases features the long awaited Blu-ray of the original Fright Night, but act fast because only 3,000 copies are available. Of course, that release coincides with the remake featuring Colin Farrell which is also out in various formats. One of my favorite bits of info is that both the original and the remake opened to around 7 million in theaters the first weekend. But in 1985, a movie ticket cost $2.75 and the film opened on 1,500 screens. In 2011, the average ticket was around 10 bucks and the remake opened on 3,000+ screens. Suck (pun intended) on that, remake that no one asked for.

In other news, the one time lost minor cult film, Intruder is finally seeing blu. That’s good news all around, especially for fans of things made by the people responsible for all things Evil Dead. Check out the rest of the releases and have a great week. READ MORE

Horror In Your House: November 29th, 2011

After committing many food crimes last week I’m back and basically just fatter than I was last week. Ugh. While there wasn’t much in the way of new horror flicks being released over the shopping weekend, hopefully you were able to score some sweet deals from Amazon or other online merchants. I picked up I Am Legend, Let Me In, and several other Blus for $4.99 – without leaving my house. Good stuff.

Onto this week’s releases which are led by the anthology gross out flick Chillerama and one of the best horror-comedies of the year, Tucker & Dale VS. Evil. And if you’ve always wanted a Blu-ray version of Horror Express you’re lucky day is finally here thanks to MPI. READ MORE

Horror In Your House: November 15th, 2011

The Evil Dead 2 Blu-ray anniversary edition is finally here! And that’s all that matters in this week’s horror releases. Not sure if other distributors are still feeling the post-Halloween jitters or if they knew every self-respecting horror fan with a love for zany would be shelling out hard-earned rupees for the pleasure of enjoying Sam Raimi’s masterpiece.

After the break you’ll find this week’s home video releases, although we’re already looking ahead to next week… READ MORE

Horror In Your House: October 26th, 2011

Ah, the final few days before Halloween, which usually means great things for horror fans.

This year delivers in spades with releases of great films like: Atrocious, Attack the Block, Rare Exports and Blu versions of the classics, Zombie and House by the Cemetery. The much talked about A Serbian Film is also available. Meh. I hated it. And, always noteworthy, Criterion has released another film. This time it’s Island of the Lost Souls.

Happy Halloween, everyone. Let me know what you are planning on picking up. Also, what do you normally watch on Halloween? My stead fasts are Halloween III, Trick ‘R Treat, and Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. READ MORE
