[Exclusive] Preview: ‘I, Vampire Vol. 2: Rise Of The Vampires’

We’ve been huge advocates for Joshua Hale Fialkov and Andrea Sorrentino’s I, Vampire since the beginning of the New 52. Fialkov proved that vampires have a place in the DC Universe, brilliantly showcasing how various superheroes would react to bloodsuckers. “I, Vampire Vol. 2: Rise Of The Vampires” hit shops and book stores yesterday, and it’s well worth your time (see our review here). Below, you can check out an exclusive preview, courtesy of your pals at DC Comics. READ MORE

‘I, Vampire’ Canceled

We knew this would happen sooner or later, though since the first trade paperback was a bestseller, we were hoping DC would hold of on cancelations for at least another year. Josh Fialkov and Andrea Sorrentino’s I, Vampire ends with issue #19. READ MORE

I’ve been saying this for a while, Josh Fialkov’s I, Vampire is one of the best titles at DC right now. It’s fun, intelligent, fresh, and explores so much vampire mythology that even the most die-hard vamp lovers will appreciate it. Fialkov loves vampires and horror, and he writes his heart into every issue. With Andrew now trying to raise a deadly army of vampires, things are bound to get hairy. Issue #14 drops today, check the preview after the break. READ MORE

[Interview] Joshua Hale Fialkov Turns The Tables In ‘I, Vampire’

I, Vampire is another one of those DC Dark titles that took everyone by surprise at the launch of the New 52. It’s a risky superhero horror mashup about immortal vampire ex-lovers at war. In the hands of writer Joshua Hale Fialkov and artist Andrea Sorrentino, “I, Vampire” began as an under the radar critical success, and has since become a New York Times Bestseller.

In the latest arc of “I, Vampire”, which begins tomorrow in issue #13 (preview here), Fialkov flips the role of protagonist and antagonist. Andrew Bennett becomes the villain, and his ex-lover Mary becomes the hero. BD spoke with Fialkov about taking risks in writing, how to keep vampires interesting in modern comics, his experience with the New 52, and plenty more. READ MORE

[Exclusive] Preview: ‘I, Vampire’ #13

Joshua Fialkov turns the tables in I, Vampire #13, completely swapping the roles of protagonist and antagonist. In the aftermath of the zombie vs. vampires war, Andrew Bennett looks to build an evil army for the ages, and the only one willing to step in his way is ex-lover Mary, Queen of Blood. “I, Vampire” is a delightful take on vampirism, having its foundations set in traditional vampire lore. Of DC’s Dark books, “I, Vampire” continuously comes out on top, and I imagine things will only get crazier as the series continues into another year.

“I, Vampire” #13 is a perfect jumping on point and below, you can check out our exclusive preview. The issue drops on October 24th, 2012. READ MORE

Review: ‘I, Vampire Vol.1: Tainted Love’

Readers will be thirsting for more after they get their hands on I, Vampire Vol. 1: Tainted Love. Whether Joshua Hale Fialkov writes a romantically dramatic or action-packed scene, Andrea Sorrentino’s illustrations are always excellently rendered to compliment the story. Though I have not read any of the original “I, Vampire” issues, there is such an appreciation to the source material from J.M. DeMatteis and Tim Sutton that comes right off the pages. The clever writing and darkly captivating artwork make ‘I, Vampire’ one of the hidden gems of DC’s New 52. This is a vampire comic that ranks up there with the best of them. READ MORE

Exclusive Preview: ‘I, Vampire’ #8

DC’s Dark lineup continues to blow us away week after week, and I, Vampire stands out as the cream of the crop. Not only are Fialkov and Sorrentino restoring the vampire genre, but they are telling a brilliant tale of love, loss, terror, and destruction. The series started out as a forbidden love story and it has expanded into a vast epic that threatens to utterly destroy the world. The crossover with “Justice League Dark” has only added to the magnitude of this series, proving that horror stories have a place in the DC Universe. The combination of Filakov’s tight writing and Sorrentino dark, highly stylized artwork is near perfection. Check out the gorgeous preview below from DC Comics. READ MORE

GRAPHIC CONTENT PICK OF THE WEEK: Lonmonster – I, Vampire #3

The DC “Dark” line has been absolutely killing it over the past three months. There’s really not a single flop in the roster, and I, VAMPIRE stands out as the best of the best. Unlike most of the new titles that kicked off with a bang, I, VAMPIRE began with a rather slow pace, offering a nice break from the usual in-your-face storytelling methods. Over the past two issues Fialkov put out some top-notch drama between the two main characters, mixed with some ultra gory scenes to keep things interesting. Not to mention Sorrentino’s artwork, which stands out as some of the most original in the new DC catalogue. Though the series started slowly, hopefully this issue will ‘up the ante’ and plenty of visceral blood spattering goodness. Though the vampire craze is rampant and downright annoying right now, don’t let that turn you off from this book. Read on for the skinny…

[INTERVIEW] Joshua Hale Fialkov – DC Comics’ ‘I, Vampire’

The re-launch of the DC Universe made headlines everywhere. One of the most surprising and talked about elements of the DC New 52 was the revival of older titles with a darker edge, which included Animal Man, Resurrection Man and the upcoming I Vampire. The choice to make these series a part of the re-launch may have appeared odd at first glance, but now that the books are finally in the greedy little hands of fans, the dark side of the new DC Comics has given fans some of the best new titles the publisher has launched in years.
