Soen’s ‘Cognitive’ To See Stateside Release This Summer

Prog-metal group Soen will be releasing their debut album Cognitive in the States this summer. The album was originally released last Winter via Spinefarm Records. The 10-track album features some fantastic songs and is well worth checking out if you’re a fan of Tool or Porcupine Tree.

Soen features Martin Lopez (ex-Opeth, Amon Amarth), bassist Steve DiGiorgio (Sadus, Testament, Death, Iced Earth), vocalist Joel Ekelöf (Willowtree), and guitarist Kim Platbarzdis. Cognitive was mixed by David Bottrill (Tool, Coheed and Cambria, Silverchair, Smashing Pumpkins, Muse).

Century Media Records has announced the Carnival Of Sounds II sampler, which includes music from 16 artists under their label. The download is 100% free and features some really great bands, including Destiny Potato, who I’m keeping a close eye on. Danish rockers Volbeat have announced a full North American summer tour that will see support coming from Hellyeah as well as Iced Earth. The band is touring in support of their latest album, Beyond Hell/Above Heaven. Meanwhile, Hellyeah will be releasing a new album on July 17th entitled Band Of Brothers. Iconic rocker Sebastian Bach will be releasing a new solo album on September 27th titled Kicking And Screaming. Bach claims, ”I could not be happier with my new album. The songs, performances and sound quality are beyond what I could have ever imagined. This is my best record yet and I can’t wait for all of you to crank it!” 

The album features virtuoso guitarist Nick Sterling and drummer Bobby Jarzombek (Iced Earth, Halford, Riot) and is produced by Bob Marlette (Black Sabbath, Shinedown, Atreyu, Filter).

After months of anticipation, the highly acclaimed new full-length In This Moment album, A Star-Crossed Wasteland, is now available in stores everywhere. The band kicked off their massive worldwide touring cycle for the new album by taking part in this summer’s Rockstar Mayhem Fest, which started this past weekend. R.I.P. Paul Gray: Slipknot Bassist Dead At 38

Today is yet another sad day in music as Paul Gray, bassist of Slipknot, has been found dead in a hotel in Iowa. I saw this news on Blabbermouth.net, so I’ll just repost a bit of their article here. I will say though that although I didn’t enjoy the last few Slipknot records, their debut album was one of my favorite records for the first several years of the 2000 decade. I spun that record more times than I can count and I credit that album as one of the reasons I got into the more extreme genres of metal.

As the reality of making ends meet in North America becomes a bleaker prospect with each passing year, regular people who never before questioned their own government, are now finding themselves looking for answers to explain the increasing levels of difficulty and fear we are all now forced to deal with.
ICED EARTH brainchild, Jon Schaffer, has developed a new project, SONS OF LIBERTY, for the purpose of spreading awareness about the current state of affairs worldwide. Schaffer’s goal for this project is not to sell records, t-shirts or tickets, but rather wake people up and to get them to start researching and talking with each other. He setup the very informative resource website www.sons-of-liberty.net as a think-tank containing lots of interesting web-links, book and movie recommendations, and much more. There is no better way for Century Media Records to celebrate their 20th Anniversary in North America than by having the band that propelled them to success return home. Iced Earth, one of the most groundbreaking metal bands of all time is extremely excited to announce a return to their roots by partnering back up with Century Media. This new worldwide deal sees the band rejoin the label that released the legendary albums The Dark Saga and Something Wicked This Way Comes, as well as all of the early Iced Earth albums. In addition to Iced Earth, Century Media will also release Jon Schaffer’s Sons Of Liberty project.
