[Interview]: Idris Elba Talks ‘Ghost Rider 2′, ‘Prometheus’ And ‘The Pacific Rim’!

IdrisElbaInterview21412 [Interview]: Idris Elba Talks Ghost Rider 2, Prometheus And The Pacific Rim!

Idris Elba has a ton of fun in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance 3D and it shows. In fact, he’s able to bring enough crazy to go toe-to-toe with Nic Cage in a Neveldine/Taylor film. As the drunken, French, priest “Moreau” he chews scenery in all the right ways. It’s quite a change-up from the majority of his work, which is subtle and more grounded. Here, you can just tell he’s having a blast.

In the successor to the worldwide hit ‘Ghost Rider,’ Johnny – still struggling with his curse as the devil’s bounty hunter – is hiding out in a remote part of Eastern Europe when he is recruited by a secret sect of the church to save a young boy (Fergus Riordan) from the devil (Ciaran Hinds). At first, Johnny is reluctant to embrace the power of the Ghost Rider, but it is the only way to protect the boy – and possibly rid himself of his curse forever.

I recently had a chance to sit down with Elba in New York for to talk about playing “Moreau” as well ass two projects that have you (and me) foaming at the mouth – Prometheus and The Pacific Rim.

Ghost Rider 2: Spirit Of Vengeance 3D hits theaters on February 17th. It also stars Nicolas Cage, Ciaran Hinds, Violante Placido and Johnny Whitworth.

[Interview]: Nicolas Cage On ‘Ghost Rider 2′, ‘The Frozen Ground’ And Deals With The Devil!

NicCageInterview21412 [Interview]: Nicolas Cage On Ghost Rider 2, The Frozen Ground And Deals With The Devil!

Nicolas Cage is very Nicolas Cage in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance 3D. I know some people take umbrage with some of the man’s more eccentric performance choices, but I’ve never found him less than interesting. It’s kind of fascinating how he can oscillate from great, character-based, stuff like Adaptation and Matchstick Men to something “big” like Con Air or Ghost Rider 2. And he certainly brings it big in Ghost Rider 2.

I recently had a chance to sit down with Cage in New York for a quick chat covering his new stint as Johnny Blaze, his upcoming thriller with John Cusack The Frozen Ground and what kind of deal he’d make with the devil. As per his reputation, he was a complete gentleman and gave some surprisingly open responses.

Ghost Rider 2: Spirit Of Vengeance 3D hits theaters on February 17th. It also stars Ciaran Hinds, Violante Placido, Idris Elba and Johnny Whitworth.

Ridley Scott Conceiving ‘Prometheus’ Sequel

 Ridley Scott Conceiving Prometheus Sequel

Ridley Scott’s return to Alien franchise was originally conceived as a trilogy all stitched together to set up his iconic 1979 sci-fi horror pic.

With the prequel Prometheus hitting theaters June 8 in a flurry of hype, Scott is once again thinking “sequel”.

In speaking to EW about the upcoming Blade Runner, Scott reveals that he’s “also thinking about what the hell I might do for a ‘Prometheus 2.’” as he knocks the wood coffee table and grins.

Those keeping up with the Prometheus mythos know that the film is supposed to set up exactly how the dead Space Jockey crash landed on the planet. This still leaves plenty of years (or millions of years) to explore. READ MORE

Already featured in magazines, below you’ll now find a clean look at Noomi Rapace and Logan Marshall-Green in Twentieth Century Fox’s Prometheus. The duo apparently have oxygen and are standing in front of some alien writing. I believe it says, “This is not a prequel to Alien, but actually, it is.” Just a wild guess.

On June 8 Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define. With Prometheus, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race. It’ll be presented in real 3-D. READ MORE

Bet You Forgot Guy Pearce Was In ‘Prometheus,’ Too

Even though Guy Pearce was confirmed for a role in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, there’s been little to no mention of him. He spoke with MTV today and explained, “I’m only [in the film] for a minute, but it was a real honor to work with Ridley [Scott], to see what was going on,” he said. “I think Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron and everybody will do a really spectacular job.

In addition, Scottish actress Kate Dickie spoke with the Daily Star about her role and reveals some major spoilers. “Kate plays a tough first officer called Mudow, who needs to help her fellow crew members become acclimatised to their removal from cryo-sleep after a long space journey which ends on an apparently barren planet,” she explained in the scan courtesy of AvP Galaxy. “With their muscles wasted from five years without use, she helps them to get fit – only for them to fall victims to horrible creatures that begin stalking them for food.

All will be revealed when Fox releases the quasi-prequel to Alien in theaters June 8. READ MORE

Noomi Rapace Holds Horrified Gaze In Fresh ‘Prometheus’ Still

Noomi Rapace is blowing up here in the States, and frankly, I love it! The star of the original Girl With The Dragon Tattoo trilogy and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is heading to space to learn of mankind’s origins in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. Not much is known about her role, but USA Today premiered a new photo center-piecing the Swedish actress.

In theaters June 8, the 3-D Alien prequel “creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. Its a Space Jockey Extravaganza in Prometheus Screengrabs! Updated in HD!

Ok, so the trailer for Prometheus is finally online. We’ve reveled in it at least once; some of us have watched it 14 times (I know, I’m sick in the head). On the surface it’s just (just?!) a mind-blowing sci-fi horror flick that taps into the soul of Ridley Scott’s 1978 Alien, but it’s actually much, much more…

From the pods to the Space Jockey rising out of the ground with his enormous canon (obviously a moment from the film’s finale, which will set the stage for the big discovery in Alien), there’s no doubt in my mind that this Damon Lindelof-penned flick is an authentic prequel to said film.

Thumbing frame-by-frame through the trailer we’ve uncovered quite a few freeze-frame treasures that range from the aforementioned Space Jockey rising out of the ground to the head of a Jockey sitting on a bed, and even what looks to be a device that channels the alien race. It looks like all sorts of awesome.

Shot in 3-D, Prometheus launches to the depths of space on June 8. READ MORE

Wanna See a Dead Space Jockey From ‘Prometheus’?

Wanna See a Dead Space Jockey From Prometheus?

I seriously don’t think I’ve been excited for a film this much since Freddy vs Jason came out back in 2003. I’ve been so pumped for Prometheus – the prequel to Ridley Scott’s Alien – that I’ve been gazing over images and looking at all of the teaser clips over and over again. Obsessed is an understatement, I’ve transcended into creepy (I’m a Prometheus stalker? I’m OK with that.)

The point, yes, yes, the point. While other horror sites will discover what I’m about to show you in about a month and eventually report it as “fresh” news (see The Darkest Hour alien images), we discovered that one of the images released by Twentieth Century Fox carries a look at a dead Space Jockey…and it was right under all of our noses! Take a look inside for a cropped look at the still and say your prayers for the alien God.

Ridley Scott Talks Prometheus Space Jockeys, H.R. Giger and Xenomorphs

Filmophilia conducted a pretty lengthy interview with Ridley Scott, director of Twentieth Century Fox’s sci-fi horror Prometheus, the assumed prequel to his 1979 Alien.

While Scott has been absolutely deceitful in earlier interviews, he’s slowly become more and more candid about the connection to the 30-year-old franchise. In the most recent of chats Scott comes clean on the addition of the Space Jockey, reveals the involvement of artist H.R. Giger, and promises with a bold face that we won’t be seeing the xenomorph synonymous with the franchise. It’s been quite a month for Twentieth Century Fox and Prometheus, their presumed prequel to Alien directed by franchise creator Ridley Scott. Keeping the excitement in momentum, by clicking the above or below still you’ll now find our new gallery of hi-res imagery!

In addition, Tom Rothman, CEO of Fox, spoke with MTV about the recent trailer leak. “I heard some of it leaked, which wasn’t so good,” he said. “That’s not fair. It’s heartbreakingly unfair, because … the quality of the visuals is as spectacularly beautiful, shot in 3-D compositionally the way only a master could do it,” Rothman added. “For some early, early, early, early half-baked, half-assed test to leak, it’s so unfair.

And speaking on the Alien connection he explains: “I’ll tell you the great thing: It’s way bigger than that. The ideas are way bigger, way more original and — it’s a scary word — way more profound.

In an interview with io9, director Guillermo del Toro revealed a pretty sweet little tid-bit about his now filming Pacific Rim, which will pit giant robots against massive monsters.

We’re at the end of our second week. We are shooting everything for the main complex in the movie, which is a huge complex in Hong Kong where the robots are maintained. We are doing that, while building downtown Hong Kong streets.

Small news, but still pretty amazing considering that it sounds practical.

‘Prometheus’ to Carry Recognizable Creatures

 Prometheus to Carry Recognizable Creatures

All of the secrecy behind Ridley Scott’s Prometheus is getting a bit annoying, considering the entire plot leaked online months ago, and that it’s already been confirmed by multiple cast members that it’s got the DNA of Scott’s 1979 breakthrough Alien. Still, every interview consists of annoying “we can’t talk about it”-type responses…even though a series of new images (and the synopsis) confirm everything known for months.

Adding some blurbs with the new batch of imagery, EW talked with the cast and got yet another one of the Prometheus crew to confirm the connection. “There’s definitely a link to ‘Alien’,” claims Michael Fassbender before adding, “There’s creatures in it that you’ll recognize.

But other cast members, like Charlize Theron, are annoyingly playing coy. Says the actress, “I think people should really let go of the idea that it’s an ‘Alien’ film.

Here’s an idea, get your press team to meet with the entire cast and crew and decide what can and can’t be revealed. All of this back and forth is getting annoying, especially when they aren’t fooling anyone. And just for the f-ck of it, here’s the entire plot crunch just as big middle finger to people like Theron. Read it if you dare.

All of the answers will eventually be revealed on June 8. Prometheus is probably my number one most anticipated film of 2012. What’s yours? READ MORE

Ron Perlman Joins Del Toro’s “Realistic” ‘Pacific Rim’ Battle!

Mexican director Guillermo del Toro is about to embark on his largest endeavor of his career – literally and figuratively. Del Toro is back behind the camera (as of Monday) for Pacific Rim, a giant monster vs robot movie that will star Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Rob Kazinsky, and now Ron Perlman (pictured inside). Perlman has starred in del Toro’s Hellboy, Hellboy II, Blade II and Cronos.

In speaking with Wired, he also revealed his intent for Legendary and Warner Bros. Pictures’ enormous battle — to make it completely realistic: “It’s really, it’s a very, very beautiful poem to giant monsters. Giant monsters versus giant robots. Twenty-five-story-high robots beating the crap out of 25-story-high monsters,” said del Toro. “We’re trying to create a world in which the characters are real and how it would affect our world politically, how it would affect the landscape if creatures like this really came out of the sea, etc.

In theaters May 10, 2013, the pic is set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace. READ MORE

Ridley Scott Leaks Pretty Huge ‘Prometheus’ News Linking ‘Alien’

Ridley Scott Leaks Pretty Huge Prometheus News Linking Alien

It beginning to hit a point where there’s just no way around avoiding Prometheus spoilers. The entire plot has already been let out of the bag and various stars have confirmed it shares the same DNA as Scott’s breakthrough 1979 Alien. In an interview with Speakeasy, Scott talks about the film’s central metaphor and also revealed something huge about the final eight minutes of the film. You have been warned.

The central metaphor of Prometheus is about a “higher being” who challenges the gods, and the gods don’t want to give him fire, says the site. “Fire is our first form of technology,” Scott says, and so by taking fire, the higher being is punished “in perpetuity in a horrible fashion.” Much like the story of the mythological god, Prometheus, who stole fire from Zeus and for his actions was bound to a rock with an eagle eternally devouring his liver.

But the big news is that the concluding eight minutes of the Prometheus story evolve into “a pretty good DNA of the ‘Alien’ one.” Early reports were that Prometheus leads up to the space jockey crash landing and setting up the events of Alien.

First Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance Clip Gets Charred Up and Spit Out!

I absolutely hated Sony’s 2007 Ghost Rider, so much so that it took the above wicked photo of Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze to rejuvenate my interest. Having just premiered on the Spike TV Scream Awards, the first ever clip from Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is burning up the internet, and while I’m still skeptical, at least now I’m excited…

Arriving in a blaze of fury on February 17, 2012, Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor direct this time around and have apparently delivered something much more gritty than its predecessor. This charred-up and spit out version of Ghost Rider looks beyond rad, while maintaining that comic book atmosphere. What do you think of the clip?
