A ‘Dream’ Interview With Korean Director Pang Ho-Cheung!

Hopefully by now you’ve had a chance to check out Pang Ho-cheung’s Korean slasher Dream Home (review) that’s been available On Demand from IFC Midnight since February 9.

We’re such big fans of the film that we caught up with Ho-cheung to chat about his inspirations for this over-the-top bloody slasher that’s guaranteed to have your mind blown.

When she was a child, Cheng Lai-sheung (Josie Ho) could see Hong Kong’s famed Victoria Harbour from her apartment. But as time passed, the old buildings in front of her home were demolished to make way for a huge residential project that now blocks her view. Increasingly disappointed and upset, she vowed to one day save up enough money for her family to move into a new apartment with a magnificent sea view.

In order to get what she wants, she must take matters into her own hands…even if it means getting her hands seriously bloody.

Check out even more bloody stills!, along with the interview inside.

A Taste of Violence in First ‘Dream Home’ Clip

IFC Midnight did us all a huge favor when they acquired Pang Ho-cheung’s awesomely gory Dream Home (review) for release here in the States. The wait shouldn’t be too long (maybe first quarter 2011), but you can get an early taste in the following clip. Unfortunately, the gore is being kept under wraps. IFC Teams With Alan Spencer To Produce ‘Dexter’ Rip-Off?

IFC, who showed they actually care about genre fans when they started their ‘IFC Midnight’ label (Human Centipede is terrible, but people wanted to see it, and they made it available rather quickly; if anything, that’s smart business), just released their series development slate, with one entry sticking out like a sore thumb. Working with Alan Spencer (Sledge Hammer!), the company is developing an “as yet untitled action series about a psychotic criminal trying to juggle the demands of violence and an active social life.” In other words, they’re possibly remaking Dexter. I’d like to think a notable independent studio and sought-after script doctor are smarter than that, but the series do share striking similarities in the premise department. Spencer’s sensibilities are more comedic than anything the Jeff Lindsay inspired series could come up with, so it could actually prove to be a weirdly (great) hybrid of laughs and serial killer sentiment.

Alone With Her (V)

“Alone With Her” is shot through the eyes and camera lenses of a young man (Doug, played by Colin Hanks) who begins to stalk a beautiful woman (Amy, played by Ana Claudia Talancón). He watches her every action and slowly manipulates her into a relationship. Chilling and creepy, writer/director Eric Nicholas has created a psychological look into an obsessive love-affair and its destructive effects. The film is ingeniously shot through the perspective of the stalker by cinematographer Nathan Wilson.
