New Pics From ‘Manborg’ Highlight The Epic-Ness

We’ve got some new stills for Manborg, the cult favorite sci-fi/fantasy homage coming to select theaters and DVD on April 30, from Dark Sky Films and they underscore just how much of a bizarre pastiche this film is. I’m hoping I love it!

The armies of hell have taken over the Earth, and all that stands in the way of the villainous Count Draculon and humanity’s total extinction is a motley crew of misfits led by the mighty Manborg: a warrior who’s half-man, half-machine, but all hero.

Once a young soldier killed during the first war against hell, Manborg (Matthew Kennedy, Lazer Ghosts 2) reawakens in the future, rebuilt as a walking weapon and mankind’s last hope. Struggling to learn the secret of his origins, Manborg unwittingly befriends a post-apocalyptic Australian punker (Conor Sweeney, Heart of Karl), a knife-wielding vixen (Meredith Sweeney, Father’s Day) and a kung fu master before finally squaring off against Count Draculon (Adam Brooks, Father’s Day) in a desperate and bloody bid to take back the Earth.

This campy, comedic action flick, which Variety called “enjoyably ridiculous,” is also an affectionate and clever tribute to fan favorite ’80s films and videogames like The Terminator, RoboCop and “Mortal Kombat.” READ MORE

Finally! A ‘Riddick’ Image That’s Not Brown!

While I enjoy Vin Diesel’s Facebook image updates for Riddick, they’ve been a bit monochromatic. Now he breaks up the brown look with a bit of blue in this new image from the David Twohy directed sequel due in theaters September 6 from Universal. Diesel writes, “It has been 9 years since the Chronicles of Riddick was released… all along I knew I would eventually have to return to that dark place, the mind of an Alpha Furyan…

Karl Urban, Nolan Funk, Jordi Molla, Matt Nable, Katee Sackhoff, Bokeem Woodbine, Dave Bautista, Conrad Pla, Raoul Trujillo, Nolan Funk and Keri Hilson fill the cast in which “Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy. The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty. The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

Let’s Get Intimate With The ‘Playstation 4′, Shall We?

Yesterday marked a very important day in history. The day the ‘Playstation 4‘ was announced. Pressures on, Microsoft. I attempted to update my PS4 post as the press conference was going on, but not without trouble. My laptop was being a bitch while streaming, and even my desktop was a bit boggy. So my info may not have been spot on. But if you’d like to really get the ins and outs of the Playstation 4, along with pictures of the new Dual Shock Controller, and the new PS4 Eye, head past the break. Unfortunately we still don’t know what the damn thing looks like, but we can speculate.

[DVD Review] ‘Cherry Tree Lane’ is Highly Effective and Well Crafted

Reviewed by Patrick Cooper

You guys, we watch a lot of horror movies ‘round here, with lots of gore, ghouls, and demons, but I don’t think anything will ever, ever, scare me more than home invasion movies. The idea of someone coming into your home, overpowering you, and doing whatever the hell they want is absolutely terrifying. Even the poorly done movies of the genre scare the shit out of me.

Another thing I’m horrified of is teenagers. They all have iPhones and cooler clothes than me and they do not care about anything. They’re awful. So imagine how great I’m going to sleep after watching Cherry Tree Lane – a home invasion thriller starring teenagers. There aren’t enough deadbolts in the world to make me feel safe… READ MORE

Image From ‘Godzilla’ Comic-Con Teaser Makes Its Way Online

Legendary and Warner Bros.’ have shared an image related to their upcoming Godzilla remake. I say “related” because it’s from the Comic-Con teaser that premiered – and somehow didn’t leak (impressive) – back in July. The film hasn’t actually started shooting, but since the teaser was cut to give us (and the studio) an approximation of director Gareth Edwards’ approach I think it’s indicative of the scale of destruction we’ll be seeing in the film.

Last week producer Dan Lin told Collider, “We’re planning to film in March. We are in deep pre-production. Gareth [Edwards] has really mapped out his vision for the movie, you saw the teaser, but Gareth thanks to Thomas Tull’s help he took over a whole stage on the Warner Brothers lot and not only showed the teaser you saw, he had some models built of Godzilla, he had art decorated all over the soundstage, he had pre-vis of some of the big action sequences in the movie. So we’re in deep pre-production and Gareth’s vision of the movie is really exciting it’s a true re-boot of Godzilla. And you saw from the Comic-Con footage it is a grounded, realistic version of Godzilla. What would happen if Godzilla came into our world today?

Head inside for a better copy of the image and feel free to know that the film has a Facebook fan page now. Godzilla is in theaters May 16th, 2014. READ MORE

‘Paranormal Activity 4′ Image Taps Into ‘Omen’ Territory

Paramount has released a new still from Paranormal Activity 4 that peaks down from the top of the stairs in a very Omen-like fashion. Who is this kid, and more importantly, why does he look so menacing?

This fourth film from creator/producer Oren Peli utilizes modern technology as it follows a family that lives across the street from a group of witches.

In theaters October 19, Catfish duo Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, who helmed the third film, direct once again. READ MORE

Better Late Than Never Review – ‘To The Moon’: It Flew A Space Shuttle Right Into My Heart

Steam just unveiled its majestic and wonderful Big Picture Mode. I was using it lying in bed and scrolling around the fantastic streamlined dashboard on my tv also with an Xbox 360 controller. I decided to splurge and buy myself a game to try with my new set up. To The Moon had previously caught my eye when I noticed a friend bought it. The game was just released on Steam, although it has been out for almost a year. So consider this a late review. The game resembles many of my past, the Super Nintendo era RPG. Though To The Moon is not itself an RPG, did it live up to my extremely high standards? Head past the break to find out.

‘The Collection’ Website Teases New Artwork

Every great collector has a vision, and it will all be realized when The Collection, the sequel to Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton’s slasher The Collector, opens in theaters November 30th, 2012 (in what they’re calling the “real” Black Friday) from LD Entertainment. (We’re also hearing rumors that the film will World Premiere at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas this September!)

The official website for the film isn’t completely active yet, but it does have some new imagery on the front page (which may or may not appear on the US poster).

When Elena’s (Emma Fitzpatrick) friends take her to a secret party at an undisclosed location, she never imagined she would become the latest victim of The Collector, a psychopathic killer. The Collector kidnaps and transports her to an abandoned hotel he’s transformed into his own private maze of torture and death. Upon learning of his daughter’s disappearance, Elena’s wealthy father (Christopher McDonald) hires a group of mercenaries to retrieve her from the vicious grips of The Collector. These mercenaries coerce Arkin (Josh Stewart), the only man to have escaped the wrath of this heinous monster, to lead them through thegruesome labyrinth. Now, Arkin finds himself fighting for his own life in order to save Elena.

The Collection, directed by Marcus Dunstan and written by Dunstan and Patrick Melton, stars Josh Stewart (The Dark Knight Rises), Emma Fitzpatrick (The Social Network), and Christopher McDonald (Requiem for a Dream). READ MORE

New Pic From ‘Paranormal Activity 4′ Plays Coy

Catfish duo Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman are back for Paranormal Activity 4 after directing Paranormal Activity 3. For my money PA3 is actually the best in the series (at least until they leave the house and go to grandma’s or whatever) so I’m fairly curious to see where they go here. One thing’s for sure – the only thing this pic confirms is that this chick is careful. After all, she has a case for her iPhone!

Were told that the sequel will explore the family of witches we saw in PA3 (who live next door to a newly introduced family) in this fourth film from creator/producer Oren Peli. While inside insiders tell us Katie Featherston won’t return, the filmmaking duo refuse to clarify. I guess we’ll find out on October 19th! Or earlier if you’re in one of the cities that “wants it.”

[TIFF '12] New Bloody Still From The Eli Roth Starring ‘Aftershock’!

A little while ago director/actor Eli Roth (Hostel, Inglourious Basterds ) let it slip – a little early I might add – that Aftershock would be having its world premiere as an official selection of the Midnight Madness portion of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. The film is an earthquake thriller scripted by Roth, Nicolas Lopez & Guillermo Amoedo.

The plot revolves around an insane asylum on an island, where the inmates escape during the quake. It’s the next “Eli Roth Presents” film, and it marks the English-language debut from director Nicolas Lopez. His last two films, Que Pena Tu Vida and Que Pena Tu Boda, were the highest-grossing Chilean films of 2010 and 2011. Roth most recently produced The Last Exorcism, a microbudget film that grossed $70 million worldwide.

Roth and Lopez wrote the story together, inspired by the latter’s experience when an earthquake devastated Chile in 2010. The film is four weeks into production in Chile. In his first big acting role since Inglourious Basterds, Roth plays the lead. Among the other cast is Selena Gomez, who was in Chile doing a concert and came over to do a cameo.

And now that Roth spilled the beans, we can give you a new still! Head inside for a better look! TIFF runs from September 6th-16th. READ MORE

New ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’ Poster Proves “Evil Goes Global” All Over Again, This Time With Zombies

Sony Screen Gems’ forthcoming Resident Evil: Retribution, which is directed once again by Paul W.S. Anderson, is less than two months away and we’re starting to see an “ultimate saturation” point with the marketing materials. A few weeks back we showed you a one-sheet featuring Alice (Milla Jovovich) going global (at least that was the tagline). But now a new international poster has decided that the look from two weeks ago would go over better gussied up with some zombies. I’ve included both below the jump for comparison.

In theaters September 14, “The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, Alice (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.

Jovovich, Sienna Guillory, Colin Salmon, Shawn Roberts, Boris Kodjoe, Michelle Rodriguez, Johann Urb, Oded Fehr, Kevin Durand and Li Bingbing all star. Check out the new poster inside! READ MORE

No Joke! Lady Gaga Has Joined ‘Machete Kills’ (And So Has Alexa Vega)!

*Update: Robert Rodriguez just confirmed via Twitter that Lady Gaga has joined the cast as “La Chameleon”. He has also debuted a special poster for her character.

Remember the days when films boasted of having “a cast of thousands”? Probably not, but maybe you’ve read about them. In any case, Robert Rodriguez’ now-filming Machete Kills might actually be able to make that claim by the time it’s all wrapped up. Here we have a photo of Alexa Vega – you might remember her from the original Spy Kids movies from when she was a tyke – in character as “KillJoy”. Gaga and Vega join Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Zoe Saldana, William Sadler, Edward James Olmos, Charlie Sheen, Elise Avellan and Electra Avellan.

The sequel finds the titular ex-federale (Trejo) recruited by the U.S. government to stop a terrorist named Mendez the Madman, who happens to be Mexico’s leading cartel dealer. Gibson is set to co-star as Luther Voz, a cunning arms dealer and death merchant who aims to spread war across the planet by launching a nuclear missile. Heard will play a manipulative assassin code-named Miss San Antonio. Pic co-stars Demian Bichir and Charlie Sheen as the U.S. president. The first film was based on Rodriguez’ faux trailer included in Dimension Films’ 2007 Grindhouse.

Another New Shot From Del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim’

A few weeks back we had a pic Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi suiting up for action in Guillermo del Toro’s epic sci-fi adventure Pacific Rim, and now we have another from probably 5 seconds later in the film. It’s thoughtful of them to be releasing these stills in sequence! I can almost construct the scene in my head (not really)!

Del Toro recently stated that the battles in the film will take place everywhere, “We take the battles far and above! Two or three of them happen in places where there have never been a battle between kaiju and robots. From the bottom of the ocean to the atmosphere of the Earth. We have a battle in a storm at sea. Every battle we try to do differently. One is seen from the point of view of a single person. We never cut away from that point of view.” This photo, like last week’s, doesn’t really give much of an indicator as to which kind of theses battles they’re headed in to.

Pacific Rim opens on July 12, 2013. There will be plenty more coverage from Comic-Con this week! USA Today got their hands on the still which you can see inside. READ MORE

New Image From ‘Antiviral’ Spruces Up The Place

Brandon Cronenberg’s Antiviral, a bizarre celebrity thriller that stars Caleb Landry Jones (Byzantium, X-Men: First Class, The Last Exorcism) will be premiering at Cannes in just a few days. A few images hit last week, and now we have a look at a brand new image from Twitch that features what looks like an asylum room as imagined by Cosmo or Maxim.

‘Antiviral’ follows Syd March, an employee at a clinic that sells injections of live viruses harvested from sick celebrities to obsessed fans. Biological communion – for a price. Syd also supplies illegal samples of these viruses to piracy groups, smuggling them from the clinic in his own body. When he becomes infected with the disease that kills super sensation Hannah Geist, Syd becomes a target for collectors and rabid fans. He must unravel the mystery surrounding her death before he suffers the same fate.

The Toronto production also stars Sarah Gadon, Malcolm McDowell, Douglas Smith, Matt Watts and James Cade.

Filipino director Yam Laranas’ (Sigaw, The Echo) The Road just got a little bit longer and a lot eerier with the release of these four striking new stills. They don’t contain the gore we saw in our last look at the film, but they certainly convey a lot of atmosphere.

A twelve year old cold case is reopened when three teens are missing in an abandoned road. In the course of the investigation, deeper and gruesome stories of abduction and murders are discovered. After more than two decades, the secrets of the haunted road may finally be revealed.

Carmina Villarroel, Marvin, Agustin, TJ Trinidad, Rhian Ramos and Barbie Forteza all star. The film features music and Soundcscapes by Johan Söderqvist (Let The Right One In). The Road opens May 11 from Freestyle. It will also arrive day and date across digital platforms including YouTube, iTunes, Amazon, Netflix and Hulu Plus.
