‘The War Z’, Zombie MMO Is Coming This Fall

The War Z snuck up on us just like the shambling corpse of one of your dearest friends who owes you money, and that you have no reservations about putting a bullet betwixt his or her eyes. The War Z is an open world zombie MMO through and through. It’s almost as if Dead Island and The Secret World got it on and got really freaky and out came this glorious zombie baby. The game was only announced 2 short weeks ago and the closed beta instantly filled up. The nice thing about such a late announcement is that I don’t have to sit around for an entire year pining over the game. Head past the break for some awesome screenshots and more info.

[TIFF '12 Exclusive] Amazing New Poster For ‘John Dies At The End’ Brings On The Flame Thrower!

This year’s Midnight Madness selections at TIFF provide us with another look at Phantasm and Bubba Ho-Tep director Don Coscarelli‘s John Dies At The End. In addition to some high-res stills (some new, some old) – we have a brand new exclusive poster for the film. It’s the third one to be released using gear/weapons featured in the movie. First there was the “Skull Mask”, then “The Bible Belter” and now we have “The Flame Thrower!”

In John Dies at the End, it’s all about the Soy Sauce, a drug that promises an out-of-body experience with each hit. Users drift across time and dimensions. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly, a silent otherworldly invasion is underway, and mankind needs a hero. What it gets instead is John (Rob Mayes) and David (Chase Williamson), a pair of college dropouts who can barely hold down jobs. Can these two stop the oncoming horror in time to save humanity? No. No, they can’t. Adapted from David Wong’s audacious trans-genre horror novel, John Dies at the End is written and directed by Don Coscarelli (Bubba Ho-Tep) and also stars Clancy Brown and Paul Giamatti.

The Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 6th-16th. Head inside to check out the poster (and some pics)! READ MORE

[TIFF '12] ‘Midnight Meat Train’ Director Returns, Images From ‘No One Lives’

One of the Midnight Madness selections that had been flying low on my radar was, No One Lives, the new film from director Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus, Midnight Meat Train) starring Luke Evans. I’m still not quite sure what to make of it, but the imagery is slightly intriguing.

From the director of Versus and The Midnight Meat Train, No One Lives is a smart and original horror movie with, at its heart, a killer in the grip of a dark and twisted love affair. A ruthless criminal gang takes a young couple hostage and goes to ground in an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. When the captive girl is killed, the tables are unexpectedly turned. The gang finds itself outsmarted by an urbane and seasoned killer determined to ensure that no one lives. Featuring Luke Evans, Adelaide Clemens, Derek Magyar, Lee Tergesen and America Olivo.

The First Pics From ‘Schism’ Feature Vinnie Jones Doing What He Does Best!

After wrapping up its New Orleans shoot earlier this year, Schism has released its first batch of stills. And at least one of these features star Vinnie Jones (Snatch, Midnight Meat Train) doing some menacing sh*t in a very Vinnie Jones way.

As previously announced on Bloody back in October, Schism was written by Adam Gierasch and his partner Jace Anderson (both who teamed for Night of the Demons and Autopsy), with Gierasch once again directing. Callum Blue (“Smallville”) and Ashlynn Yennie (The Human Centipede) also star in in the picture. This is a dark indie thriller in the vein of Jacob’s Ladder.

Shot on Super 16, “the film follows “Dylan White” who works as a cook in Baton Rouge. He is also in a solid relationship with his girlfriend “Brandy”. Things are great until strange events prompt him to seek out the truth about himself — following clues, Dylan discovers a dark past in New Orleans. Can he right his past wrongs and find redemption for his sins?

New Pics From ‘The Possession’ Bring The Family Together

I’m still totally stoked to see The Possession. Most of my colleagues have had a chance to check it out and most of them really dug it. I could definitely uses a fix of Raimi-inspired chaos. That being said, these new pics from Entertainment Weekly don’t offer much that we haven’t seen in the film’s trailers. But that’s okay!!! We don’t need everything spoiled before release, do we? I’m kind of glad this movie seems to be keeping some of its bigger moments close to the vest.

Based on a true story, ‘The Possession’ is the terrifying story of how one family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil. Clyde (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Stephanie Brenek (Kyra Sedgwick) see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.

Tony Hawks Pro Skater HD Is Out, Time To Do Some Thumb Exercises

Tony Hawks Pro Skater HD came out yesterday and the timing couldn’t be more perfect. It’s been raining quite a bit in Chicago/Chicagoland the past couple days. Don’t get me wrong, I’m ecstatic about it because we’ve pretty much been going through a drought followed by random high humidity heat waves. When I play most Tony Hawk games I want to go out and skate afterwards. But I can’t, so I’ve been inside playing more Tony Hawk instead. Upon the release of the game, it was also announced they are working on even more levels for DLC. The maps in THPS HD are taken from the 1st and 2nd game, the 1st DLC will contain maps from THPS 3. Check out this video as Tony Hawk tells you all about it.

Hopefully the game will do well enough that they will keep releasing new maps as DLC. If you head past the break you can check out a new trailer, tons screenshots, and game features.

Comic-Con 2012: ‘Fortnite’ Sneaks Up To Comic-Con And Bites You In The Ass

Fortnite is quite a far leap away from Epic Games previous powerhouse Gears Of War. But that isn’t a bad thing. Fortnite is taking on a totally different look and feel from Gears, and though I’m not necessarily excited about the game I do have quite a bit of interest in it. I’m always excited to see what a game company can do with a game when they reach outside the norm.

Fortnite is going to be a co-op sandbox type game where you spend your days gathering supplies, scavenging, and building your fortifications to fight off demons at night. The best part? It’s running on the brand spanking new Unreal 4 Engine that was crafted by Epic Games, so expect some amazing looking graphics and all around magic. The only downside for you console jocks, PC only. New Images From ‘Pacific Rim’ And ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’ Bring The Action!

The new Comic-Con issue of Entertainment Weekly has hit stands and it’s got a couple of cool looks at some of your most anticipated films from the event. First up is an image of Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi suited up for action in Guillermo del Toro’s epic sci-fi adventure Pacific Rim.

Del Toro recently stated that the battles in the film will take place everywhere, “We take the battles far and above! Two or three of them happen in places where there have never been a battle between kaiju and robots. From the bottom of the ocean to the atmosphere of the Earth. We have a battle in a storm at sea. Every battle we try to do differently. One is seen from the point of view of a single person. We never cut away from that point of view.” With the helmets the characters are wearing in the pic I can’t exactly tell which one it will be.

Next up is another still from Resident Evil: Retribution. You’ve seen a lot form this movie but you have yet to see a close-up of one of its zombies. Problem solved!

Pacific Rim opens on July 12, 2013 while Resident Evil: Retribution is just around the corner on September 14th. Expect a lot of coverage on these guys from SDCC next week. In the meantime, head inside for the pics! READ MORE

Classic Painkiller Is Coming Back With A Little Hell And Damnation

Something I missed announced at E3 was the remake of the original Painkiller. Never having played the game myself I am quite looking forward to Hell and Damnation’s release. I haven’t read anything about what platforms it will be released on though the original was released on the PC. From my studies the game was re-released about a million times and has had several expansion packs since it’s 2004 release. There is also no word if Hell and Damnation will contain those expansions, but I would hope so. Screens past the break, more info as it comes.

Behind The Scenes Pics From ‘Machete Kills’ Give You Jessica Alba, A Mariachi Band

Some cool pics from the set of Machete Kills, the sequel to Robert Rodriguez’ Machete, have emerged. Jessica Alba posted a few images to her Facebook last night and they include her holding a 1950′s looking sci-fi laser pistol, a shirtless Danny Trejo amongst a red-clad mariachi band amongst other minutiae that will be of interest if you’re a fan.

Alba stars along with (obviously) Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson, Edward James Olmos, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara and Zoe Saldana in the flick spawned from a faix trailer included in Tarantino and Rodriguez’ 2007 Grindhouse.

The sequel finds the titular ex-federale (Trejo) recruited by the U.S. government to stop a terrorist named Mendez the Madman, who happens to be Mexico’s leading cartel dealer. Mel Gibson is set to co-star as Luther Voz, a cunning arms dealer and death merchant who aims to spread war across the planet by launching a nuclear missile.” Heard will play a manipulative assassin code-named Miss San Antonio.

[Special Report] We Visited The Haunted Linda Vista Hospital To Revisit ‘The Devil Inside’, Here’s What Happened!

Last week we were invited to an event at L.A.’s infamous Linda Vista Hospital for a guided tour of the establishment that involved a few other surprises and guests to commemorate today’s Blu-ray/DVD release of Paramount’s The Devil Inside.

Originally opened in 1904 by the Santa Fe Railroad, the once heralded hospital fell into disrepair by the 1980s and became known for its high number of patient deaths. Now long-abandoned, and rife with tales of terrifying happenings throughout the decades, the hospital provided an ideal setting for a foray into the world beyond what we see…

Attending press learned about the hospital’s chilling manifestations from members of the “Boyle Heights Paranormal Project” and spoke with cast members from the film Suzan Crowley (“Maria Rossi”) and Bonnie Morgan (“Rosa”) as well as Maja D’Aoust, the White Witch of Los Angeles. Upon their departure, attendees were blessed by a priest.

New ‘Prometheus’ International Posters Give You More Of That Giant Head

Prometheus International Header 51112 New Prometheus International Posters Give You More Of That Giant Head

Two new international posters for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus have landed and they play up that now iconic ruin-like head we’ve been seeing in about half of the film’s promotional materials. Pretty much for completionists only.

With ‘Prometheus,’ Scott creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

We have less than a month to go before you can see the movie and I want to hear from you guys – what are you most excited about? What are your concerns? Do you have nightmares that it will be bad? I watched Alien: Resurrection last night – surely it’s better than that, right?

Did You Ever Think You’d See More ‘Prometheus’ Pics?

Prometheus EW Header 51012 Did You Ever Think Youd See More Prometheus Pics?

We almost went an entire day without posting on Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, but then some new pics popped up over at EW and we figured we’d throw a few your way. Most of the pics are fairly bland stuff we’ve seen before (from one angle or another), but a couple of images from their set visit managed to wrangle my attention and I’ve included them below. I particularly like the shot of Fassbender, Rapace and Tom Hardy look-a-like Logan Marshall-Green walking down that totally-unfamiliar-to-the-Alien-universe corridor.

5 New Images Find Their Way Out Of Dix’s ‘Crawlspace’

From producer Greg McLean (Wolf Creek) comes Justin Dix’s Crawlspace, which stars Ditch Davey, Peta Sargeant, John Brumpton and Leslie Simpson. It’s for sale at the forthcoming Cannes market by Arclight’s Darclight label. We had a look at the first image a week or so ago, and now five more have landed.

Penned by Eddie Baroo, Justin Dix and Adam Patrick Foster, the pic, “Follows a squad of elite soldiers sent to infiltrate and extract the lead science team from Pine Gap, Australia’s top secret underground military compound, after it comes under attack from unknown forces. The mission is compromised when they encounter a young woman with no memory of who she is or how she came to be there. As they try to escape, the group quickly discovers all is not as it seems and the facility has become a testing ground for something far more sinister.

The new pics definitely illustrate the vibe of the military compound, as well as provide a look into the film’s titular crawlspace. Head inside to take a look. READ MORE

[Random Cool] Images From ‘Prometheus’ Artist Gutalin

Gutalin Banner50612 [Random Cool] Images From Prometheus Artist Gutalin

While these images aren’t directly from Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, they definitely share strands of the same DNA (to co-opt a talking point from the film). Russian artist Alex Kozhanov (aka Gutalin) is (quite evidently) influenced by H.R. Giger and was hired to recreate the derelict ship from Alien for the film. While these images aren’t from Prometheus – I suppose you’ll have to wait for the film to see the breadth of his design work for it – they are certainly highly evocative of the Alien universe and are thus worth a look. Thanks to BD reader “Jon” for the heads up.

Five New Stills From ‘Jack & Diane’ Keep The Werewolves Away

Magnolia Pictures’ “lesbian werewolf” movie, Jack & Diane, played recently at the Tribeca film fest and now a handful of new official stills have surfaced courtesy of Magnolia pictures. I’m really curious about this film. What I’ve heard has been mixed, some love it and some don’t. Werewolf movies are an interesting challenge, they’re so hard to get right and I’m secretly hoping I love this one. It’s interesting that all the imagery from this film – at least the imagery that I’ve seen – takes place more or less during the day. Far away from nighttime werewolf action.

Directed by Bradley Rust Gray, “Tomboy Jack and bubbly Diane fall head over heels in love one hot summer in New York City. When Diane reveals she must leave the city for school in Europe, their budding love is tested. Weaving horror elements into a distinctive and fresh yet timeless and universal first-love story, TFF alum Bradley Rust Gray brings his unique vision to this idiosyncratic story of the joys and terrors of first love.

Juno Temple, Riley Keough, Cara Seymour, Dane DeHaan, Michael Chernus and Kylie Minogue all star in the R-rated horror drama.
