5 Questions With James D’Arcy Of ‘Hitchcock’!

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment released Sacha Gervasi’s Hitchcock on Blu-ray and DVD (and iTunes) last week. To that end, I recently chatted with James D’Arcy (In Their Skin) about the weight of portraying none other than Anthony Perkins in the film.

Anthony Hopkins stars as Hitchcock, along with Helen Mirren as his wife during the making of Hitchcock’s seminal movie Psycho. Scarlett Johansson plays Janet Leigh while Jessica Biel portrays Vera Miles. Danny Huston, Toni Collette, Jessica Biel, Michael Stuhlbarg, Michael Wincott, Richard Portnow and Kurtwood Smith also star.

The project is based on the non-fiction book by Stephen Rebello that tracks how Hitchcock, at the height of his game as a director, decided to make a “lowly” horror movie. No studio wanted to touch it initially, so Hitchcock scrounged for financing by himself. The movie, of course, became one of his biggest hits and one of the most influential of all time.

IFC Dates Both ‘In Their Skin’ and ‘Hellgate’ For Home Video

IFC Films revealed a March 12 DVD date for Zyzzyx Rd director John Penney’s Hellgate (formerly Shadows), which feature Saw star Saw‘s Cary Elwes. Ploy Jindachote and Paula Taylor also star. In the film, “A western businessman (Cary Elwes), his Thai wife and son experience a horrible accident while visiting Bangkok. In the aftermath, they find there is a shadow world between life and death where endless darkness lies.” Midnight Meat Train‘s Ryuhei Kitamura produces.

The company also announced that In Their Skin, formerly Replicas, will arrive on home video March 12, too. “After a tragic family accident, Mark (Joshua Close, The Exorcism of Emily Rose) and Mary Hughes (Selma Blair, Hellboy, Storytelling) retreat with their son to the family’s vacation home in the woods. They are wakened early the next morning by their new neighbors, Bobby and Jane Sakowski (James D’Arcy, Hitchcock, An American Haunting, and Rachel Miner, Sons of Anarchy, Bully), who invite themselves over for dinner. What begins as merely an awkward evening turns sinister as Bobby’s questions become intrusive and his envy of the Mark and Mary becomes more aggressive. As matters escalate, it becomes clear that there’s no limit to what Bobby will do to get what Mark has, and ultimately the Hugheses’ will to survive will be put to the test.”

The IMP Nominates ‘V/H/S’ For Best Horror Movie Poster!

We’re incredibly excited to report that IMP Awards, the premiere poster website, has nominated the theatrical V/H/S one-sheet for “Best Horror Poster”!

“Bringing back memories of the poster for Visiting Hours this skull image made up of someone’s deranged video collection manages to hint at the plot of the film while still providing a creepy image,” says the site.

Designed by Gravillis Inc. for Magnet Releasing, the poster is nominated against The Cabin in the Woods, The Woman in Black, The Possession and In Their Skin.

V/H/S is now available on DVD, Blu-ray and even Netflix Instant. Another tape was discovered – S-VHS – and will premiere at Sundance this coming weekend. READ MORE

Formerly known as Replicas, IFC has provided Bloody Disgusting with a fussy look at the final one-sheet for In Their Skin, which is now on various VOD platforms with a limited theatrical run November 9.

“Following a tragic incident, the Hughes (Selma Blair and Joshua Close) escape their busy upscale suburban life in order to spend some quality family time at their isolated country home. An evening with friendly neighbors is suddenly interrupted when one man’s obsession with perfection escalates into a violent struggle, forcing all to go beyond anything they ever thought they were capable of, in order to survive.”

[Interview] Selma Blair On The Uncomfortable Moments Of ‘In Their Skin’, ‘Hellboy 3′

Formerly known as Replicas, IFC’s In Their Skin is currently on VOD and On Demand with a limited theatrical run November 9. Directed by Jeremy Regimbal, the film stars Selma Blair, Joshua Close (who also wrote the script), James D’Arcy and Rachel Miner.

Last week I hopped on the phone with Blair and we discussed what attracted her to this project, which is much darker than many of the roles she is known for. We also discussed how she dealt with filming some of the project’s more intense material while being pregnant along with her desire to revisit the Hellboy universe.

In the film, “Following a tragic incident, the Hughes’ escape their busy upscale suburban life in order to spend some quality family time at their isolated country home. An evening with friendly neighbors is suddenly interrupted when one man’s obsession with perfection escalates into a violent struggle, forcing all to go beyond anything they ever thought they were capable of, in order to survive.”

Selma Blair stars in In Their Skin (formerly Replicas), a thriller I really enjoyed which you can currently find on VOD/On Demand. I just got off the phone with her, and while the bulk of our conversation is centered around that film (a conversation you’ll be able to read in its entirety before the film’s theatrical run on November 9th), we did speak briefly about a certain sequel many of us are dying to see happen.

So I figured I’d share this Hellboy 3 tidbit with you in the meantime before the full interview goes up. First of all, it seems like something she’s really passionate about. I didn’t even have to bring it up and I get the sense that it’s not just another job for her – it’s a role she’s invested in and an arc she wants to complete.
