[Indie Horror Spotlight] ‘Among The Sleep’ Is Spooky

In this episode, Adam and David explore a bizarre and terrifying world, where they learn to embrace their inner child and break free from the shackles of their crib in search of their mum. For the unfamiliar, Among the Sleep is an indie horror game developed by Krillbite Studio. Yesterday, their Kickstarter campaign successfully reached its funding goal with about three days to spare. Now they’re working toward achieving a handful of stretch goals that include Oculus Rift support (basic support is already happening, this would be for more advanced functionality) and commentary tracks.

If the idea of a toddler sized Adam climbing dresser shelves so he can reach a doorknob sounds appealing — and really, why wouldn’t it — you should definitely watch me play this alpha.

[Indie Horror Spotlight] In ‘Don’t Starve’ The Name Says It All

In this installment of Indie Horror Spotlight, our heroes (David and I) play the latest game from Klei Entertainment, an open-world survival game that refuses to hold your hand. It’s called Don’t Starve, and it’s the game Tim Burton would’ve wanted to make, if he knew what video games were.

What makes this episode so exciting, you ask? Why, it’s only exciting if the image of me chasing down rabbits with an axe in one hand and the will to survive, no matter the cost in the other gets you excited. Also, about half-way through David decides he’ll have no more of my chicanery. Check it out after the jump!

[Indie Horror Spotlight] The Strangest Game I’ve Ever Played

If you’re fond of the unusual, than you’re going to love the cheerfully violent Happy Wheels, because this is the strangest game I’ve ever played. It’s a browser-based pseudo-platformer with a very active community of players who use its level editor to craft custom levels. Some are better than others.

It’s not necessarily a horror game, but I remedied that little issue by playing — mostly dying, actually — on maps inspired by games like Dead Space and Limbo. Won’t you join David and I for some good wacky fun?

[Indie Horror Spotlight] Slenderman Isn’t The Only Thing Hunting You In ‘Slender: The Arrival’

Welcome to Adam Plays Slender: The Arrival, Part 2: Electric Boogaloo — the sequel to Adam Plays Slender: The Arrival (you can watch that here). In this highly anticipated follow-up, Adam continues his horrifying adventure, this time with the vocal assistance of his reptilian ninja obsessed friend, David! You know what’s scarier than Slenderman? How about a hoodie-wearing homeless man/woman/thing that is crazy good at cardio? Watch it after the jump!

[Indie Horror Spotlight] Adam Plays ‘Slender: The Arrival’

I like to fancy myself an enthusiast of the horror genre. I’m experienced, desensitized, some might say. For some reason, all that experience goes out the window when I play a game like Slender: The Arrival — the “reimagining” of Mark Hadley’s The Eight Pages, which you probably remember taking the Internet by storm last summer. It’s a collaborative effort between Hadley, Blue Isle Studios, and Marble Hornets creators Joseph DeLage, Troy Wagner and Tim Sutton. It’s terrifying. If you’d like a good laugh, feel free to watch me try and play it after the jump.

[Indie Horror Spotlight] ‘One Late Night’s’ Ghost Lady Stole My Red Balloon

If you’ve ever had to work late at the office, alone, with coffee that refuses to exit the mug, then you’re almost definitely going to love One Late Night.

Seriously, this might be the best thing you’ve ever watched, because it literally has all of that. What else does it have? How about keys in toilets, battery scavenge hunts, and spinning computer chairs! Watch me showcase my ineptitude for computers in this moderately freaky indie horror game, after the jump.

[Indie Horror Spotlight] ‘DreadOut’ Has A Very Persistent Mosquito

In this very special edition of Indie Horror Spotlight, it’s Adam vs. the Mosquito.

Seriously. If there was a list of annoying video game bugs — the insects, not those of the technical variety — DreadOut’s mosquito would claim every spot on the list. That persistent creature followed me the whole time, and refused to let me lock him in a room so I could have some good scary fun. Other than that fun-sucking mosquito, the demo’s pretty great. You can watch me play it after the jump.

[Indie Horror Spotlight] ‘Homesick’ Combines ‘Slender’ And ‘Clock Tower’ With Terrifying Results

Welcome to the new and improved Indie Horror Spotlight! See that hologram behind you? THAT’S PART OF IT. Okay, no holograms, but that would’ve been cool, right? Unfortunately, that’s not within our budget. Until we get our hologram funding, you’ll have to sit back and enjoy this brand new edition of IHS. What makes this one particularly special is I decided to record myself playing the game. Yes, I freak out. Yes, I curse like a sailor. And yes, it’s embarrassing.

Tonight, it’s all about the incredibly freaky indie horror game Homesick.

[Indie Horror Spotlight] Watch Adam Play The Slender-Inspired ‘Survivers’

A few weeks ago I took a look at the intensely creepy survival horror mod Grey. That was a great game. Tonight I decided to check out a horror game that’s still very early in development. On paper, it sounds promising. Survivers is a horror game that takes the terrifying Slender concept where you’re casually walking around a forest searching for pages to collect, only this time around you’re being hunted by something else. Something loud. Oh, and there’s totally co-op. Watch me play it after the jump!

[Indie Horror Spotlight] ‘Grey’ Is A Chilling Blend Of Condemned And Silent Hill

Indie game development has been around since the 90′s, but it wasn’t until fairly recently with the surge of popularity of digital distribution where indie developers were really given the tools to create fantastic, high quality games as well as the means to distribute their work all over the world. It’s not uncommon to see a successful game that was developed by a small team of people (Limbo, Castle Crashers) or even a single person (Braid, the upcoming Shadow of a Soul), and as digital distribution continues to become more popular and new tools like the Ouya see mainstream acceptance, we’ll continue to see incredible indie games. This is why I’ve decided to take a look at some of the more notable indie horror games in a brand new series I affectionately refer to as Indie Horror Spotlight. On tonight’s menu is the chilling new source mod, Grey. More after the break.
