I caught up with producer Jason Miller (Frozen, Hatchet 2, Chillerama) last night on the red carpet for the Eyegore Awards (which kicked off this year’s Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood) and he filled us in on his new project.
So you have a found footage project coming up? “I do… I haven’t announced it yet but I guess I can give you the exclusive [laughs]. We’re still negotiating with a distributor but we’ve shot half of it on our own and now we’re just wrapping it up.” And this is you behind the camera right? “Yes. Writing and directing.”
Miller directed last year’s short Infected which starred Alexis Peters, BD alum Brian Collins, David Foy and A.J. Bowen. He also served as second unit director on Hatchet 2 and Frozen so he’s definitely been working on his chops. I’m definitely interested to see where this goes.
This year’s Halloween Horror Nights dates are September 21, 22, 28, 29 and October 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 31.
IDW has teamed with Chad Minshew and Scott Sigler for an adaptation of the New York Times best-selling horror trilogy, Infected. It’s a take off from the traditional zombie stories and lends itself to a 28 Day Later style of horror. “Infected” sees America taken over by a mysterious disease that turns all those who carry it into crazed lunatics who destroy themselves and everyone around them. If you haven’t picked up the novels, I highly recommend that you do, this is some of the most chilling fiction of the decade. Today the comic adaptation begins, and you can check it out below. American World Pictures announced via their website that Jason Dudek has gone behind the camera for the sci-fi horror Infected, which will star Vinnie Jones (The Midnight Meat Train), Danny Glover (Saw), Taylor Handley and Margo Harshman. Here’s the logline: “A pharmaceutical company recruits a well-known scientist to help develop a vaccine against a deadly virus.”
Movie Mogul Ltd (Panic Button) have announced that their new feature film Monster Project has gone into development, says Screen Daily. Described as a “cross-genre” film, “‘Monster Project’ follows six teenagers who undergo a harrowing transformation into monsters, imbued with various abilities and ailments, and are forced to go on the run, fighting for their survival.” John Shackleton will write, direct and co-produce with Movie Mogul director of operations, Gareth I. Davies.
Playlist reports that Moneyball helmer Bennet Miller and I Am Legend‘s Francis Lawrence are also in contention to direct Catching Fire, Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games sequel. The slot recently fell open when Gary Ross bailed, and since then David Cronenberg, Alfonso Cuaron and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu have been targeted for the replacement job. “The sequel continues the story of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and the fictional, futuristic nation of Panem. Due to the events of the previous novel, a rebellion against the ruling Capitol has begun, and Katniss and fellow tribute Peeta are forced to return to the arena in a special edition of the The Hunger Games.”
Amok Time has finally announced that they are now accepting pre-orders on their psychotic action figure duo – “Tiny” and Shorty” – from the cult classic film Killer Klowns From Outer Space, reports Figures. The pair, acquired by Amok way back in 2008, have faced an uphill battle to see release, but they are now slotted to arrive this November (this still leaves me skeptical). SOTA released just one Klown in 2006 – these two complete the trio of bloody bozos! Images inside. READ MORE
Naughty Dog’s next game is the post-apocalyptic PS3 exclusive The Last of Us. It follows Ellie and Joel, two people who are merely trying to survive in a world where humanity has been almost completely wiped out by a mutated form of the Cordyceps fungus. This fungus has adapted to infect humans, creating a freaky fungified creature that’s sort of like the mutant offspring of a mushroom and Left 4 Dead’s infected.

Developer Naughty Dog is adamant that this is not a horror game, but there’s no denying its strong horror influences, especially when it comes to these sexy fungus zombies. Head past the break for an uncomfortably close look at these things. READ MORE
After a slew of fan-made posters were debunked, Bloody Disgusting received official word from Filmax International that Paco Plaza is fully stocked up for a zombie apocalypse and will be going behind cameras on REC 3: Genesis next Monday, April 4.
The pic is said to carry the essence of the first two REC pics, co-directed by Plaza and Jaume Balagueró, who will act as creative producer this time around. He will direct the fourth installment, Apocalypse.
As previously reported, Leticia Dolera (Spanish Movie, Semen, A Love Story, “White Glove”) and Diego Martin (Three Meters Above the Sky, “There Is No One Alive”) both star.
The script, written by Luiso Berdejo (writer also REC) and Paco Plaza, recovers the essence of the first installment, which terrified the public. The shoot will be held for 7 weeks in several locations in Barcelona.

I’m starting to get a bit frustrated with all of the fake REC posters finding their way online and being declared by sources as “official” and “exclusive”. Each time I check in with Filmax they respond with a firm, “Uh, no?!”
Thank the Gods Spanish director Paco Plaza started his own Twitter account so we can get updates directly from the source. Over the past few days he’s been posting pre-production make-up test photos from REC: Genesis, not that you don’t know what the infected/possessed individuals look like by now. Still, it’s all in good fun.
Filmax’s third film to be directed by Paco Plaza stars both Leticia Dolera and Diego Martin.
“The action in [REC] GENESIS encompasses the events of the first two films and after the sense of claustrophobia previously experienced. The action now takes place miles away from the original location and partly in broad daylight, giving the film an entirely fresh yet disturbing new reality. The infection has left the building. In a clever twist that draws together the plots of the first two movies, this third part of the saga also works as a decoder to uncover information hidden in the first two films and leaves the door open for the final installment – the future [REC] Apocalypse.”

Update: Are you kidding me? Filmax tells us that THIS poster is fake too!
Last week a fan made Russian poster was posted for the fourth film, while today a one sheet has been unveiled for REC: Genesis, Filmax’s third film to be directed by Paco Plaza. Leticia Dolera and Diego Martin both star.

Say what you will about Quarantine, Sony Screen Gems’ English-language remake of REC, but it was a pretty good film that not only introduced a new audience to the Spanish franchise, but also got a sequel made here in the States. The more horror the better, if you ask me.
Entering post-production last July, a trailer has now leaked online for Stage 6′s direct-to-disc Quarantine 2: Terminal, the John Pogue-directed sequel starring Mercedes Masohn and Josh Cooke. You can also read our special preview.
“In ‘Quarantine’, an apartment building in Los Angeles was quarantined by the CDC (Center for Disease Control), trapping the frightened residents inside as a deadly mutant virus turned the residents into rabid killers. ‘Terminal’ picks up later that night at LAX, as passengers board a flight to Nashville. When a passenger becomes violently ill with a mysterious rabies-like virus, the plane makes an emergency landing at a large metropolitan airport. Jenny (Masohn), a heroic yet inexperienced flight attendant, takes charge of the safety of her passengers. Relieved when a swarm of heavily equipped emergency vehicles, police units and the CDC arrive, Jenny and the passengers soon discover that they have been quarantined and are now trapped. Desperate to escape, Jenny enlists the help of one of the surviving passengers, a kindergarten teacher, Henry (Cooke), to devise a plan to survive.”
