Experimental rock/metal band The Melvins have never been ones to appear normal. On the contrary, they’ve eschewed that title and have always strayed VERY far in any direction but what is considered “safe”. And that’s just what the band has done with their latest music video.
Directed by Kyle Westbrook, the animated video is a twisted take on war, addiction, and excess. You can watch the video below (courtesy of Metal Sucks)
The track comes from the band’s recent cover album Everybody Loves Sausages, which you can purchase via Amazon. READ MORE
German quartet Bohren & Der Club Of Gore, who have been described as “the gentlest black metal band on earth,” are set to release their eighth studio album Piano Nights on February 3rd, 2014 via Ipecac. The album was inspired by a performance in Moscow where Chrisoph Clöser was playing a selection of the band’s songs on a grand piano. Below is the track listing and album artwork.
From what I’ve listened to of the band, it seems like they’re a perfect fit for anyone who is into Twin Peaks and composer Angelo Badalamenti’s beautiful score. READ MORE

The loss of ISIS was a blow to the music world, one that many felt very keenly. The band’s ability to build tension with each passage, ultimately coming to a climax that felt like a tidal wave crashing upon you, was nothing short of amazing. But their end came with a new beginning: Palms. Featuring Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno and ex-ISIS members Aaron Harris (drums), Jeff Caxide (bass), and Clifford Meyer (guitars), Palms is the next step in these musicians’ musical journey. But does it take the best of both bands and combine them into a majestical opus or does it falter, tidal waves becoming mere ripples? Find out more below. READ MORE

Supergroup Palms has released their first single, a song entitled “Patagonia”, which you can listen to below. The song comes from the band’s debut album, which will be released June 25th via Ipecac Records. Palms features Deftones singer Chino Moreno and ISIS members Jeff Caxide, Aaron Harris, and Clifford Meyer.
Moreno talks about working with the members of ISIS: “A chance to work with the guys from ISIS sounded like a lot of fun. I’ve always been into the atmospheric sounds they had created with that project and felt my sense of melody would meld well with theirs.”
Aaron Harris on the origin of Palms: “After a little time Jeff, Cliff, and I decided that it was insane that we all still lived here in Los Angeles and weren’t playing together. It just sort of happened naturally, probably because we have been playing together for so long, and things started to come together. But we didn’t want to be instrumental: We wanted vocals. We just weren’t exactly sure who that would be at first.”
Also below are dates for the band’s mini West Coast tour. READ MORE
I got the opportunity to see Tomahawk open up for Tool in 2002 at the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, OH. To say that I hated the performance is an understatement. I was covering my ears half the time while rolling my eyes the other half. It simply wasn’t music that I wanted to hear, especially considering who would be playing in an hour. I had much the same reaction the first time I saw Meshuggah open up for Tool in 2001.
However, now Meshuggah is one of my favorite metal bands. I simply did not understand what they were doing at the time because I didn’t take the time to really listen and appreciate what exactly they were offering.
And so I entered Tomahawk’s latest release Oddfellows with this type of openness. After all, I have been wrong before. Could I be wrong again? READ MORE
ISIS and Ipecac Records will be releasing Temporal, a retrospective collection of unreleased tracks, remixes, and videos, on Nov. 6th. The set will cover the full discography of the band from Mosquito Control through to Wavering Radiant. A full track list will be released soon.
Drummer Aaron Harris comments, “It was fun and also very nostalgic collecting material for this release. I hear our catalogue differently now that I’m not living with these songs day to day. This is a special collection of outtakes, demos, unreleased tracks and videos; some of which I think we even forgot about.”
ISIS broke up in June 2010. Three members (Aaron Harris, Jeff Caxide, and Clifford Meyer) have teamed up with Deftones singer Chino Moreno to form a new group Palms. The band will be releasing their debut album in 2013. READ MORE
