Puscifer Announce ‘All Re-Mixed Up’: Set Release Date

Puscifer, the side project from Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan, has announced that they will be releasing All Re-Mixed Up on August 27th. The album will feature remixes of several Puscifer songs from the Conditions Of My Parole (review) by several artists, including Sir Mix-A-Lot, Aaron Harris (ex-ISIS) of Palms, John Fryer of This Mortal Coil, Rani Sharone of Stolen Babies, and more as well as a remix by band member Carina Round.

Keenan states, “All Re-Mixed Up is the continuation of the Puscifer tradition to release alternate versions, reworks, and remixes of what we consider initial thoughts. For instance, Carina Round was nervous about how to approach her version of ‘Telling Ghosts.’ Mat Mitchell put her at ease by asking her to think of it as a song half written, advising her to ‘now write the other half.’ It’s extremely liberating in the digital age to approach composing and creating in this manner. Infinite paths to explore, reinterpret, and re-present.

Palms (Feat. Members Of Isis And Deftones) Releases First Single “Patagonia”

Supergroup Palms has released their first single, a song entitled “Patagonia”, which you can listen to below. The song comes from the band’s debut album, which will be released June 25th via Ipecac Records. Palms features Deftones singer Chino Moreno and ISIS members Jeff Caxide, Aaron Harris, and Clifford Meyer.

Moreno talks about working with the members of ISIS: “A chance to work with the guys from ISIS sounded like a lot of fun. I’ve always been into the atmospheric sounds they had created with that project and felt my sense of melody would meld well with theirs.

Aaron Harris on the origin of Palms: “After a little time Jeff, Cliff, and I decided that it was insane that we all still lived here in Los Angeles and weren’t playing together. It just sort of happened naturally, probably because we have been playing together for so long, and things started to come together. But we didn’t want to be instrumental: We wanted vocals. We just weren’t exactly sure who that would be at first.

Also below are dates for the band’s mini West Coast tour. READ MORE

Head To Atlanta For Some Heavy Metal Yoga

Chalk this up as something I would do in a heartbeat. Apparently, Tough Love Yoga in Atlanta, GA, which is owned by Neda Draupadi Honarvar, has a class with a description that reads, “Listen to metal. Do yoga. Melt your face off in a very relaxing and healing way.” Sold. I’m in. Who’s with me?

Honarvar explains that this came about because, “…some of her male friends said they would only try yoga if metal music played during class.” She called their bluff and offered metal yoga classes with each class focusing on a single artist’s music, such as Neurosis, Isis, or Metallica.

Classes are $10 to drop-in and are held at the Tough Love Yoga facility on Dekalb Avenue, next to Radial Cafe. A full article chronicling a man’s experience in her class can be found here. READ MORE

Prepare To Have Your Blackened Hearts Melted By The ‘Metaldudes Cats Book’

In an effort to help prove that the metal community is not filled with mindless, hate-filled, angry men, author/photographer Alexandra Crockett is putting together a photography book entitled Metaldudes Cats Book that showcases some of the most brutal and visionary members of the West coast metal community with their darling, adorable little balls of fur: their cats.

Crockett comments, “Metaldudes Cats Book challenges stereotypes of masculinity and the metal culture. I think we can all agree that cat photos and videos are an integral part of the Internet. Metaldudes Cats Book combines three loves that have a global reach: Kitties, Metal, and Dudes. A love of kitties binds the entire world together, even tough guys who listen to brutal, harsh music.

Isis, Xasthur, Atriarch, Black Goat, Book of Black Earth, Harassor, Lord Time, Skeletonwitch, King Dude, Morbid Angel, Anhedonist, Thrones, Lightning Swords of Death, Municipal Waste, Holy Grail, Nausea, Exhumed, Phobia, Murder Construct, Cattle Decapitation, and Gypsyhawk are only a few of the bands that have already volunteered to be photographed with their kitties.

Read on for more information and some images from the book. READ MORE

Twisted Music Video Of The Week Vol. 62: Isis “Holy Tears”

It’s still a bitter shame that Isis has called it quits. However, their music lives on and so do their videos, many of which are incredibly unsettling and full of eerie, frightening images. However, it’s my personal opinion that their video for “Holy Tears” takes the cake for being the most twisted. And that’s why I chose it for this week’s installment of Twisted Music Video Of The Week!

The video follows the journey of a man who leaps off of a skyscraper, his death inevitable. Right before he hits the ground, the video cuts and shows a life growing from a single cell to a fetus, attaining a moment of self-realization. Then it cuts back to what might be one of the most horrific images imaginable of a personal slamming against the ground at high speeds. It’s truly unsettling.

The song comes from their 2006 release In The Absence Of Truth. The video can be seen on the DVD disc of their recent release Temporal, which collected unreleased demos and rough edits from their musical career. You can snag that release here. READ MORE

Deftones’ Chino Moreno Talks About The Various Side Projects He’s On

In an interview with Rock It Out, Deftones singer Chino Moreno spoke about the upcoming record Koi No Yokan (out Nov. 13th) as well as the various side projects he is a part of.

Regarding Palms, which features several members of Isis, Moreno states, “They recorded this music a long time ago, almost a year ago, so musically it’s been its own thing and I only got asked to do vocals on it not too long ago by my buddy Aaron [Harris], he’s the drummer. It’s not really a thing I rush on. Any of the projects I do, I don’t have to do them. I do them strictly because it’s fun to make music with friends and to do that.

In terms of ††† (Crosses), Moreno revealed that a third EP will be released before the band tackles a full length record.

ISIS Releasing ‘Temporal’ This November

ISIS and Ipecac Records will be releasing Temporal, a retrospective collection of unreleased tracks, remixes, and videos, on Nov. 6th. The set will cover the full discography of the band from Mosquito Control through to Wavering Radiant. A full track list will be released soon.

Drummer Aaron Harris comments, “It was fun and also very nostalgic collecting material for this release. I hear our catalogue differently now that I’m not living with these songs day to day. This is a special collection of outtakes, demos, unreleased tracks and videos; some of which I think we even forgot about.

ISIS broke up in June 2010. Three members (Aaron Harris, Jeff Caxide, and Clifford Meyer) have teamed up with Deftones singer Chino Moreno to form a new group Palms. The band will be releasing their debut album in 2013. READ MORE

Deathwish Inc. Releases Teaser For Converge / Napalm Death Split

Official Press Release:

Legendary bands Converge and Napalm Death have come together for a split release, bridging the worlds of personal and politically driven extreme music.

Recorded as part of their new album sessions, Converge offer up the blazing new song “No Light Escapes“. Already a staple of their live set, this whirlwind of an emotional charged song is a soon to be a discordant hardcore/metal anthem for the band. Also on the release, Converge offer a “We Are The World” styled rendition of the influential Entombed classic “Wolverine Blues“. Joining them in tribute is a number of friends including Tomas Lindberg (Disfear, At The Gates, Lock Up), Aaron Turner (Isis, Old Man Gloom, Split Cranium), Kevin Baker (All Pigs Must Die, The Hope Conspiracy), Brian Izzi (Trap Them), and more. A new Converge album will surface later in 2012 on Epitaph/Deathwish Inc.

On the flip side, metal pioneers Napalm Death offer up two new aural monsters. First, “Will By Mouth” erupts in classic grind fashion. A buzz of brutal guitars and a crushing blast beat lay a foundation for Barney Greenway‘s vicious vocal attack. All of it uniquely bleeding together to paint a vivid picture of social unrest. Also on the release, Napalm Death offer the slower and textural new song “No Impediment To Triumph (Bhopal)“. A deeply resonant number that lyrically sheds light on the horrific Bhopal Gas Tragedy of 1984. Without question, “No Impediment…” is truly a powerful and poignant moment for this legendary band.

You can pre-order the album through Deathwish Inc. and Converge‘s Official E-store.

Deftones And ISIS Members Join Up For New Band: Palms

Jeez, do you think singer Chino Moreno is busy enough already? He’s already got Deftones about to hit the road with System of a Down AND he’s also got ††† (Crosses), the project with Far guitarist Shaun Lopez. Now he’s teamed up with ISIS members Aaron Harris, Clifford Meyer and Jeff Caxide to create a new band: Palms.

Aaron Harris: “Clifford, Jeff and I started Palms a little over a year ago out of a desire to continue making music together after ISIS ended. Chino joined shortly after and our sound took shape from there. We’ve worked really hard on this first release and are excited for people to hear it. It’s nice to be back behind the drum kit, and with this line up.”

Chino Moreno: “Being a huge ISIS fan I’ve always dug the moods these dudes convey with their sound. I am excited to combine my sense of creativity with theirs, and to have fun doing so.”

The album will see a release later this year via Ipecac Records, the home of ISIS. READ MORE

[Review] Wolves Like Us ‘Late Love’

Not knowing much about Wolves Like Us, I entered into reviewing their debut album Late Love with a completely open mind. This Norwegian hardcore punk band is relatively new onto the scene with their debut album having come out in Europe this past June (coming out Sept. 13th in the US). So does this act have what it takes or are they just another drop in the bucket? Check after the jump!

Isis 1997-2010

I feel like I’m always the one to bring up an awesome band breaking up…. and here’s another one! Experimental act Isis is throwing in the towel after 13 years of awesome music. It pains me to see them go but I’d rather a band go out this way than to make a bunch of album that were bad and people would rather have them break up. So with that aside here is the statement from the band:

isis Isis 1997 2010

“Isis has reached an end. It’s hard to try to say it in any delicate way, and it is a truth that is best spoken plainly. This end isn’t something that occurred over night and it hasn’t been brought about by a single cataclysmic fracture in the band. Simply put, Isis has done everything we wanted to do, said everything we wanted to say. In the interest of preserving the love we have of this band, for each other, for the music made and for all the people who have continually supported us, it is time to bring it to a close. We’ve seen too many bands push past the point of a dignified death and we all promised one another early on in the life of the band that we would do our best to ensure Isis would never fall victim to that syndrome. We’ve had a much longer run than we ever expected we would and accomplished a great deal more than we ever imagined possible. We never set any specific goals when the band was founded other than to make the music we wanted to hear and to play (and to stay true to that ideal), so everything else that has come along the long and winding path has been an absolute gift.”
