If They Made Horror… Hypothetical Horror Films From 8 Non-Horror Directors

There are many directors out there who will probably never make a horror film, but are stylistically idiosyncratic enough that we can safely assume what it might be like if they tried. With any luck, someday one of these hypothetical films will become a reality. Except the Judd Apatow one. No one wants that.

The New Monuments Video For “97% Static” Must Have Been Directed By J.J. Abrams

The latest video for “97% Static” from Monuments looks like it was directed by J.J. Abrams. Know why? Lens flares EVERYWHERE! And if lens flares everywhere wasn’t enough, they also added in a kaleidoscope effect to ensure that you got multiple lens flares throughout. The end result? I’m blind. Check out the video below for a dazzling array of light stripes.

“97% Static” comes from Monuments latest album Gnosis (Amazon), which comes out in the US this Tuesday. The band will be touring Europe with Jeff Loomis, Vildhjarta, and Stealing Axion. Tour dates are also below. READ MORE

[San Diego Comic-Con '12] Footage From NBC’s “Revolution” Panel

Premiering this fall (September 17 to be exact) is NBC’s new genre drama “Revolution”, which made a big splash at the San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend. Now we have footage and interviews from their panel (although it skips over footage from the show itself).

What would you do without it all? In “Revolution”, an epic adventure thriller from “Supernatural”’s Eric Kripke, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Iron Man’s Jon Favreau, a family struggles to reunite in a post-apocalyptic landscape of empty cities, local militias and heroic freedom fighters where every single piece of technology — phones, computers, cars, even lights — has mysteriously blacked out … forever.

“Revolution” stars Billy Burke (Twilight films), Tracy Spiridakos (“Being Human”), Anna Lise Phillips (Animal Kingdom), Zak Orth (Wet Hot American Summer), Graham Rogers (“Memphis Beat”), J.D. Pardo (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2), Giancarlo Esposito (“Breaking Bad), David Lyons (“The Cape”), Maria Howell (“The Vampire Diaries”) and Tim Guinee (Iron Man films) and is executive produced by Kripke, J.J. Abrams (“Fringe”) and Bryan Burk (“Fringe”).

“Revolution” will air Mondays at 10/9c on NBC this fall. Head inside for the footage. READ MORE

“Lost” Director Jack Bender Isn’t Giving Away The Secrets Of ‘Devolution’

Jack Bender directed 37 episode of “Lost” in addition to several episodes of “Alcatraz”, which means he’s probably picked up more than a thing or two from J.J. Abrams. So it’s no surprise that he’s keeping the plot of his new thriller Devolution, under wraps. All we know is that the film is based on an idea by Max Brooks, the author of “World War Z”, and that the script will be written by Wrath Of The Titans scribe David Leslie Johnson (who also wrote a few “Walking Dead” episodes).

Per The Hollywood Reporter, “Jack Bender, perhaps best known as the preeminent director of ABC’s Lost, is working on Devolution, a thriller he is developing to direct for Legendary. Plot details are being kept lock and key, but the pedigree is all genre. It is based on an original idea by Max Brooks, the author of World War Z, while David Leslie Johnson, who worked on ‘Wrath of the Titans’ is writing the script. Brooks is producing with Legendary, indicating that the author is slowly developing deeper relations with the company.

Fun fact: Bender also directed Child’s Play 3.

Drew Goddard Talks ‘Cloverfield 2′ And ‘Robopocalypse’!

Cloverfield30512 Drew Goddard Talks Cloverfield 2 And Robopocalypse!

With the release of The Cabin In The Woods looming next month, I met up with Drew Goddard (the film’s director and co-writer) in Hollywood this afternoon for a lengthy chat.

While 95% of our conversation naturally centered around Cabin, we briefly touched on the status Cloverfield 2 and his screenplay for Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse. For those who need a refresher on the latter, it’s based on the book by Daniel H. Wilson which explores the fate of the human race following a robot uprising.

Also be sure to check out the rest of my interview with Goddard when it hits – I’ll be breaking it into two pieces. One will publish before the release of The Cabin In The Woods in the coming days/weeks. Then I’ve got a more spoiler heavy segment scheduled to hit after you’ve had a chance to see the film. He’s a smart, talented and enthusiastic guy and I think you’ll enjoy the read.

Hit the jump for the updates, which include Goddard’s thoughts on Cloverfield 2 possibly not being found-footage. READ MORE

Super 8

In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.

Yes, MORE Train Wreck Footage in Six Minute ‘Super 8′ Clip

I can’t help but laugh just a little bit. This morning we brought you two very fresh clips from J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 (review) — and when I say “fresh” I am referring to the fact that they weren’t from the train crash sequence. In an unsurprising twist on the day, Paramount has released yet another stock of footage that blends the handful of previously displayed “train wreck” scenes (including the one that was a blend of three previous clips, ha!). If my count is right, this is the sixth clip? Anyways, you can watch six whole minutes inside, which does carry a few fresh snippets here and there.

‘Super 8′ Film Gets Serious Production Value in New Clip

I know the constant barrage of news can get tiring, but I recommend you embrace the anticipation for what will probably be the best genre movie of the year, especially if you’re a fan of Steven Spielberg.

A few weeks back we collected four clips from J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 that combined to display the opening train crash sequence that was eluded to in the first teaser last summer. Paramount has now released a FULL clip that has some more footage tacked on, enjoy it inside. They call it “production value,” I call it “clip 0″.

The lighter genre fare arrives in theaters June 10.

Update: A Movie Within a Movie in First ‘Super 8′ Clip; New Clue!

Update #2: Second clip inside.

Update: A new clue has surfaced in one of the various TV spots. As displayed in the poster, the water tower is the focal point as a ball of light emanates from behind it. In the newer TV spots it’s implied that whatever “it” is can be found IN said water tower as it’s literally covered in metal from objects around the town (you can see all of the objects being pulled upwards in various spots).

Moviefone has premiered the first official clip from Paramount Pictures’ Super 8 that teams director J.J. Abrams with producers Steven Spielberg.

Two New Stills From ‘Super 8′

Super 8 is purposely being kept vague, but that’s not really a surprise considering the set of Star Trek was guarded like Fort Knox. Abrams likes to keep people guessing, and I’d rather that than see 700 clips spoiling every great scene before the movie opens.

Today, Paramount released two new stills from the geek favored director’s latest, showing us… well, absolutely nothing. Check past the break for the stills, featuring the kids shooting their Super 8 film and staring off into the distance.
