SDCC 2010: ‘Crossed’ To To Kick-Off Monthly Series Next Year

This weekend at the Avatar Press junket the publisher added more news to the already smoldering pot that they have brewing for “CROSSED” fans as they announced plans to bring series creator Garth Ennis (“PREACHER”) back to the series next year for an all new monthly series. The series titled “BADLANDS” will premier next year from the publisher and be written by Ennis with illustrations from Jacen Burrows. “BADLANDS” will be the first arc of the ongoing series, and will be picked up once the arc ends by scribe Jamie Delano.

My Two Cents: Is ‘Crossed’ Too Much?

It’s hard for me to believe that it has been nearly 2 years since the first time I ever read or heard anything about the Garth Ennis original “CROSSED”. Back in early 2008 when the comic was being passed off by publisher Avatar as the most depraved piece of illustrated fiction to ever taint the shelves of comic book stores everywhere I was equal parts skeptical and intrigued by the idea of the story. (Let alone that the man behind such personal favorites as “PREACHER” and “HELLBLAZER”) Any skepticism I may have harbored as to the validity of these claims was dashed though when I read the first issue of the series that contains a 2 page spread in which a couple is…ahem…how do I put this delicately…brutalized from “behind” in front of each other while their little girl is torn to pieces “DAY OF THE DEAD” style in the background. With those two pages Ennis and illustrator Jacen Burrows made a statement to readers, horror fans, and industry heads everywhere, a statement that went through loud and clear, and it was simple: f*ck you. But with such a bold statement always comes the eventual allegations and whining from the offended. (Or should I say ‘crossed’?) In this case it is the million dollar question of whether or not “CROSSED” is TOO much. Read on for the entire article.

BD Pick Of The Week: ‘Crossed: Family Values’ Issue #1 PLUS Full Review!

If you were at C2E2 at all this past weekend then undoubtedly you saw fans walking around the convention wearing the free “CROSSED” masks that were being given out at the Avatar Press booth. (Or the many cosplayers running around covered in face paint and corn syrup) In many respects “CROSSED” has spread through the comic industry just like any good airborne virus passes through the air and infects those who inhale it. But like a virus it is pretty disgusting, and it just makes you feel gross. So what better story to choose as our pick of the week than the newest arc in the series? What, you thought we were better than that? Read on for the skinny.
