Magnolia Pictures has announced a January 8 DVD and Blu-ray date for their indie horror love story, Jack & Diane, directed by Bradley Grey and starring Juno Temple, Riley Keough, Cara Seymour, Dane DeHaan, Michael Chernus and Kylie Minogue.

“Jack and Diane, two teenage girls, meet in New York City and spend the night kissing ferociously. Diane’s charming innocence quickly begins to open Jack’s tough skinned heart. Vulture has premiered the Tribeca Festival one-sheet for Magnolia Pictures’ “lesbian werewolf” movie, Jack & Diane, which will have its world premiere in the “narrative” section of the forthcoming NY fest.

Directed by Bradley Rust Gray, “Tomboy Jack and bubbly Diane fall head over heels in love one hot summer in New York City. When Diane reveals she must leave the city for school in Europe, their budding love is tested. Weaving horror elements into a distinctive and fresh yet timeless and universal first-love story, TFF alum Bradley Rust Gray brings his unique vision to this idiosyncratic story of the joys and terrors of first love.”

Juno Temple, Riley Keough, Cara Seymour, Dane DeHaan, Michael Chernus and Kylie Minogue all star in the R-rated horror drama.

With the synopsis of Jack and Diane screaming love story and hinting werewolves, you may have asked yourself the same two questions I have. With this sounding more like a love story, is this worth my horror-thirsty attention? Can we expect Jack and Diane to be to lycanthropes, as Let the Right One In was to vampires?

I got with the director Bradley Rust Gray (The Exploding Girl) and proposed these questions. I got the answers plus a whole lot more. [News Bites] Steamy R rating For Jack & Diane, Unused Akira Storyboards, New Pacific Rim Date

There’s a rash of some serious hit-whoring around the Web, so instead we’ll compact a bunch of news briefs into this nice and tight edition of News Bites.

Magnet Releasing’s sexy werewolf flick Jack & Diane (pictured above), premiering at next month’s Tribeca Film Festival, and starring Juno Temple, Riley Keough, Cara Seymour and Kylie Minogue, has been rated “R” for “strong sexual content including nudity and an assault, bloody violence, language and drinking – all involving teens.” That’s a spicy plot for a pic about two hot females who think they’re Lycans. Magnet is expecting to release this fall.

Clicking on over to io9 you’ll find a series of unused storyboards from Warner Bros. Pictures now-defunct Akira. These images, though, are a snapshot of it could’ve looked like when the project was attached to Blinky director Ruairi Robinson a few years back. These sketches are by concept artist Sylvain Despretz (Gladiator, Alien Resurrection). Jaume Collet-Serra was most recently attached with Garrett Hedlund set to star.

Fans of Guillermo del Toro will have to wait a bit longer for his giant monster flick Pacific Rim as Warners pushed the film deep into summer locking in a new July 12, 2013 date. Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Rob Kazinsky and Ron Perlman all star in the pic set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, and the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.

Deadline is reporting that WWE Studios and Anchor Bay Films have made a deal to co-distribute The Day (review), a provocative post-apocalyptic thriller that premiered in the Midnight Madness section of the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. WWE Studios bought U.S. distribution rights shortly after the film’s first screening. The film stars Shawn Ashmore (X-Men), Dominic Monaghan (The Lord of the Rings, “Lost”), Shannyn Sossamon (A Knight’s Tale) and Ashley Bell (The Last Exorcism) in a post-apocalyptic vision where “An open war against humanity rages. Five survivors wander along rural back-roads, lost, starving and on the run. With dwindling food stocks and ammunition, an attempt at seeking shelter turns into a battleground where they must fight or die.” Watch the trailer inside. READ MORE

Release Dates For Intruders and Jack & Diane

One of the worst films I’ve seen in 2011 is 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s (unintentionally) faux supernatural horror film Intruders (review), which premiered at the TIFF this past September. Starring Clive Owen, Daniel Brühl, Carice Van Houten, Pilar López de Ayala, Ella Purnell, Izan Corchero, and Kerry Fox, Millennium Entertainment has landed on March 30, 2012 as their U.S. release. “‘Intruders’ centers on an 11-year-old girl who is forced to confront childhood demons.”

In other release news, the Bradley Rust Gray-directed werewolf flick Jack & Diane, which stars Juno Temple, Riley Keough, Cara Seymour, Dane DeHaan, Michael Chernus and Kylie Minogue, will open in theaters June 1 via Magnolia. “The film follows Jack and Diane, two teenage girls, who meet in New York City and spend the night kissing ferociously.
