Here’s a quick news round up to get this evening party started. It begins with a look at one of Carrie’s report cards. Says the Facebook page: “Her gym teacher, Ms. Desjardin, was obviously aware that Carrie was in need of some extra attention. But did she know how much attention was needed?” Check out the report card inside. Kimberly Peirce’s Carrie, which stars Chloe Moretz as the title character alongside Julianne Moore, Alex Russell, Ansel Elgort, Gabriella Wilde, Judy Greer and Portia Doubleday, was recently moved to October 18 of this year.

Also inside, via Latino Review, you’ll find a picture of an EM-208 Humanoid Drone, which is part of OmniCorp’s product line from MGM’s RoboCop reboot/sequel in theaters February 7, 2014. Our friends at Collider discovered a super weird featurette for MGM’s forthcoming RoboCop that’s being used for selling licensing for related products.

It features concept art for multiple generations of RoboCop’s suit, a re-imagined ED-209, unmmanned drones and futuristic weaponry, the video also includes commentary from star Joel Kinnaman and director Padilha, along with producer Eric Newman, VFX Supervisor Jamie Price and Production Designer Martin Whist.

Joel Kinnaman dons the suit in the Jose Padilha-directed reboot now rebuilding in theaters February 13, 2014.

When a follower noted they had yet to see that design online, he replied, “the whole film he will wear that one… that’s the new slick design..” As in slick new design I think he means “Halo” or “Iron Man”-inspired tin can. It makes sense though. There are multiple suits in the script – a la the first Iron Man movie – the black one we saw earlier being one of them and this one (likely) being another.

Mark Bomback, whose writing credits include Live Free or Die Hard, Total Recall and the forthcoming The Wolverine, has been tapped to work on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, says THR. Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Cloverfield), stepping into the shoes originally worn by Rupert Wyatt, is directing the sequel to Fox’s 2011 hit, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, with the new movie continuing the story of how ultra-intelligent simian Caesar presides over the fall of human civilization. Andy Serkis is returning as Caesar. Fox has set a May 23, 2014, release date.

Now in theaters February 7, 2014, CBM has anded a slew of new behind-the-scenes paparazzi shots from RoboCop that feature Joel Kinnaman as the title character on his motorcycle, as well as a futuristic police cruiser. Director Jose Padilha reimagines the tale of part man, part machine, all cop starring Joel Kinnaman as the title character, Gary Oldman as the scientist who creates RoboCop, and Samuel L. Jackson as media mogul Pat Novak.

Airing October 26 on NBC is the failed pilot presentation of “Mockingbird Lane“, the reboot of “The Munsters” that will now air as a TV special. We’ve received the synopsis and TVLine presents the first ever cast photo. “Sweet little Eddie Munster (Mason Cook) is a normal kid about to enter the horrors of puberty. Truth is, he’s about to discover that for him becoming a teenager means growing hair in truly unexpected places — as in all over his body — every time the moon is full! Eddie’s got it pretty good though. His loving, supportive, run-of-the-mill family includes his mom Lily (Portia de Rossi), the daughter of Dracula; his dad Herman (Jerry O’Connell), who brings new meaning to “Frankenstein”; and Grandpa (Eddie Izzard), who would give Dracula a run for his money if he weren’t actually Dracula! Sony/TriStar has made a few major dafe shifts moving District 9 director Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium from March 1, 2013 to August 9, 2013. This can be seen as a vote of confidence in the film, maybe the execs think it can hold its own in the summertime.

In even worse news, Elysium is snatching up RoboCop‘s old slot, which MGM has pushed all the way back to February 7, 2014. This can be seen as the studio almost kind of dumping the film, which is weird since they’re still shooting. Maybe I’m wrong, but this isn’t a great sign for RoboCop.

In Elysium, “In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) will stop at nothing to preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium – but that doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in by any means they can. Max (Matt Damon) agrees to take on a life-threatening mission, one that could bring equality to these polarized worlds.”

They haven’t done a great job of shooting the new RoboCop movie under the radar. Filming in Toronto, Canada, there have been more than a couple dozen behind-the-scenes images leaked, most creating negative buzz. While it’s been confirmed that we’ll see “multiple” versions of RoboCop, now played by Joel Kinnaman, fans don’t seem to dig the new “black” look. It gets worse for them today when you see him on set with his black bike. I don’t overreact to set photos (remember everyone losing their shit over the Anne Hathaway Catwoman images?) as I like to reserve judgement for the final product. ‘RoboCop’ Director Speaks On Rumors Of Behind-the-Scenes Drama

Latino Review translated an interview over at Cinema en Cena where Jose Padilha, director of the RoboCop remake, responds to allegations made by City of God director Fernando Meirelles that he was having a horrid time with the project.

“I have a script I’m happy with and I got the cast I have picked,” said Padilha in a rough translation. “The director of photography is Lula Carvalho, my editor is Daniel Rezende (City of God, Elite Squad, The Tree of Life). I was even consulted for the selection of the producers.”

When asked about the rumors of him having a bad time while in pre-production for RoboCop:

“We deal with those difficulties with coolness and familiarity.”

Padilha obviously wouldn’t publicly slam the studio or producers – not to mention it’s not all that shocking to hear about trouble behind-the-scenes. Directors are (and should be) artists, and making a movie is a collaborative process. butting heads is part of the process, especially when you’re new.

RoboCop is being rebuilt for August 9, 2013.

Clive Owen (below; Children of Men, Sin City, Shoot ‘Em Up, Intruders) is in talks to replace “House” star Hugh Laurie as the villain in MGM’s reboot of RoboCop, reports Deadline and Variety. He would star alongside Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael Kenneth Williams, Marianne Jean-Baptiste in the Jose Padilha-directed reboot in theaters August 9, 2013. Laurie was to play the evil and ultra-rich CEO of Omnicorp, the company that makes Robocop.

IFC Midnight has acquired all U.S. rights to director Peter Strickland’s psychological horror film Berberian Sound Studio (pictured above), “Set in 1976, pic takes place at one of the cheapest, sleaziest post-production facilities in Italy, where a naive and introverted sound engineer from England is hired to orchestrate the sound mix for the latest film by a horror maestro.” Strickland also wrote the screenplay for the film, which stars Toby Jones, Cosimo Fusco, Antonio Mancino, Fatma Mohamed, Tonia Sotiropolou, and Salvatore Li Causi. Film previously screened at the Locarno Film Festival and Edinburgh Film Festival. It will also be playing at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival and New York Film Festival. NBC’s “Hannibal” has cast a new member of Laurence Fishburne’s investigative team. According to THR, Hettienne Park (below) has joined the upcoming adaptation of the Thomas Harris books. Park will recur as Beverly Katz, a bright-eyed yet weary crime scene investigator who specializes in working with fibers. She’s part of a team of three who piece evidence together. When she first encounters Will (Hugh Dancy), she confronts the criminal profiler about his unusual role with the FBI and flags the special treatment he receives. While the duo initially clashes, their relationship could potentially become a romantic one. Mads Mikkelsen will play the psychiatrist-turned-serial killer in the 13-episode dramatic take from “Pushing Daisies” creator Bryan Fuller.

20th Century Fox has set Wes Ball (watch a trailer for his short “The Ruin” inside) to direct The Maze Runner, an adaptation of the James Dashner dystopian novel. “‘The Maze Runner’ is a post-apocalyptic setting. The protagonist, Thomas, who after having his memory wiped is deposited in a community of boys trapped in an enormous maze. He soon learns they are part of a mysterious test, and finds it is his destiny to join the ‘maze runners’ and lead them to freedom.” Peter Kang and Daria Cercek are overseeing at the studio. Marianne Jean-Baptiste (pictured below; The Cell) is set to star opposite Joel Kinnaman, Hugh Laurie, Samuel L. Jackson and Gary Oldman in the MGM’s remake of Robocop, reports Variety.

Jean-Baptiste will portray the character of Detroit Police Chief, Karen Dean.

Elite Squad helmer Jose Padilha is directing an origin story from Josh Zetumer’s script. Kinnaman stars as the crimefighter, a Detroit police office who’s transformed into RoboCop after he’s murdered while on duty.

“In ‘RoboCop’, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the centre of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. “The Wire” and “Boardwalk Empire” actor Michael Kenneth Williams is in negotiations to join the cast of RoboCop, MGM and Sony’s remake of the classic 1987 sci-fi action movie, says THR.

The movie is gearing up for a September start in Toronto and has amassed a line up that includes Joel Kinnaman as the title hero, Hugh Laurie as the villain, plus Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Jay Baruchel, Abbie Cornish and Jackie Earle Haley.

Jose Padilha (Elite Squad) is directing the film. The original took place in a dystopic and crime ridden Detroit where a terminally wounded cop returns to the force as a powerful cyborg with submerged memories haunting him.

Williams will play the partner to Kinnaman’s police officer Alex Murphy who is tight with Murphy’s family. Sony will release August 9, 2013.

Watchmen and A Nightmare on Elm Street‘s Jackie Earle Haley (above) is signing on to star in the RoboCop remake that Jose Padilha will direct, says DL.

Haley will play Maddox, the guy who dispenses the military training to Robocop. Joel Kinnaman stars as the title character, while Gary Oldman, Hugh Laurie, Samuel L. Jackson and Abbie Cornish are also set and actors including Jay Baruchel (below) are circling the final leads.

The story focuses on Barnabas Collins (Depp), who was transformed into a vampire by a jilted lover (Eva Green’s witch Angelique) way back in the 1700s and buried. He’s just been dug up, and attempts to reintegrate with his descendants, led by Michelle Pfeiffer’s Elizabeth and Jonny Lee Miller’s Roger – despite the fact that Angelique is still around and still not in a forgiving mood.

Okay, Dark Shadows we know you exist! I’m actually not down on the movie – aside from he lame Alice Cooper joke – I have no real beef with any of the bus ads, character posters, standees, teasers, teasers for trailers, trailer, or TV spots. I’m actually kind of looking forward to this even though I’ve hated the last few Tim Burton films. But I’d say there’s a lot of awareness, wouldn’t you? Give those trailer cutters a break WB!

Warners has just aired a second TV spot for Dark Shadows, Tim Burton’s latest arriving in theaters May 11. The original followed the life of vampire Barnabas Collins, played by Johnny Depp in the rehash, and his run-ins with various monsters, ghosts, and supernatural creatures.

It’s incredibly rare when I have a different reaction to a TV spot than I did with the original trailer. Frankly, I don’t recall it ever happening.

Warner Brothers used the NCAA tournament to unload their first Dark Shadows commercial, one that carries quite a bit of different footage than the film’s recently released trailer. In fact, it made me excited to see Tim Burton’s latest, which arrives in theaters May 11.

Tim Burton’s vampire version of Austin Powers?

With the HD version of the trailer ~~arriving this afternoon~~ being uploaded as we speak (still), right now international press has landed 30 hi-res images from Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows, which can all be enjoyed by clicking any pictorial on display.

We’ve also just added the official one-sheet and proper version of the trailer, both of which are a bit hokey. I’m nervous that the film is trickling into “pop culture” territory with their (near) modern-day comedy. This could go very badly…

The original Gothic soap opera was a highly atmospheric, spooky soap that featured gothic horror staples like vampires, monsters, witches, werewolves, ghosts and zombies.

In theaters May 11 “The story focuses on Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp), who was transformed into a vampire by a jilted lover (Eva Green’s witch Angelique) way back in the 1700s and buried.
