The Night Stalker

In 1985, Ramirez went on a rampage of sexual assault and murder, entering homes at night and generating fear throughout Southern California. He was later found guilty of 13 counts of murder, five attempted murders, 11 sexual assaults and 14 burglaries.

The film, also titled “The Night Stalker,” will show how Ramirez, currently on death row in California, became a killer. It’s being co-produced by Soundgarden lead singer Chris Cornell and Nicolas Constantine, who also wrote the screenplay.

Will James Franco Return For ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’?

In an interview with MTV, actor James Franco dropped the bomb that he may not join the cast of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the sequel to the Apes prequel, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, in which Franco played the scientist that gives Caesar his mental strength.

I was going to be a small part of the next one,” he reveals in talking about returning to his role of Will Rodman. “There was a moment when Rupert Wyatt was going to direct the second one. A lot of the human characters that were in the first movie were dead in the sequel that Rupert was going to direct. But there was one scene, between Caesar and my character, maybe even just like on a video that was left behind, but then a lot of things happened, like [former Fox co-chairman] Tom Rothman who was a big part of the first movie, left. Now Rupert’s not a part of it so I don’t know. My guess is I won’t be in it. Nobody’s talked to me since Rupert left.

Let Me In and Cloverfield‘s Matt Reeves has since come aboard to direct, and Andy Serkis is the only name to be attached to star. There’s no need to be alarmed because it’s just too soon to say Franco won’t return, which is why it’s a bit odd that he’d even imply that’s the case. Shooting is set to begin in the first quarter of 2013 with a release set for May 23, 2014.

Dawn continues the story of how ultra-intelligent simian Caesar (Andy Serkis) presides over the fall of human civilization. After the apes break out of their facility, a virus breaks out that causes the collapse of human society. The new project is taking the story to the next level, with the apes on the path to emerge as society’s new rulers.

Aziz Ansari Joins Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg’s ‘Apocalypse’

AzizAnsari40612 Aziz Ansari Joins Seth Rogen & Evan Goldbergs Apocalypse

Aziz Ansari (Funny People, “Parks And Rec”) has joined the cast of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Apocalypse. He’s just the latest in a long line of comedy pros to join the cast including Rogen, Jay Baruchel, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson. All of the actors will be playing themselves as they are stuck in Franco’s apartment in Los Angeles facing an apocalypse.

Ansari told Grantland, “I’m doing this thing in this movie, called The Apocalypse. It’s Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride — and all those guys. And it’s basically all of us playing ourselves. Me, McBride, Jonah, Seth — everyone’s playing themselves, and the bit is James Franco’s having a party at his house, and the Apocalypse starts happening.

Earlier, Rogen elaborated on the horror roots of the project. “We want to make a horror comedy. Some of our favorite movies are like ‘Army of Darkness’ and ‘Evil Dead’, sh*t like that… Movies like ‘The Mist’, we love the idea of these movies where people are boarded up in a house together and whatever’s out there is scary but being stuck with each other is far more miserable probably.

The project is inspired by a short called “Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse” that featured Rogen and Jay Baruchel playing themselves, holed up in an apartment as they dealt with the end of the world. Rogen wrote the script with Goldberg, who will make his directorial debut on the project. Sony Pictures will finance and distribute.

Watch Andy Serkis Acting As Caesar Before ‘Apes’ CGI Is Applied!!!

apes011712 Watch Andy Serkis Acting As Caesar Before Apes CGI Is Applied!!!

David Harley and I don’t see eye-to-eye when it comes to Twentieth Century Fox’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Rupert Wyatt’s prequel to the 1968 masterpiece that spawned multiple sequels. Personally, I thought it was one of the best Fox films in nearly a decade, and was blown away by the extermination of CGI “dead eyes”. This was accomplished by sticking star Andy Serkis in a motion-capture suit and thus using his body language and actual eyes in the finished product.

Fox is rightfully campaigning to land Serkis a best supporting actor nomination for his role as Caesar, an ape with extreme intelligence who falls victim to the prejudices and fears of man. As Hitfix notes, if Serkis finds himself among the five nominees announced a week from Tuesday, it will make history as the first motion-capture performance recognized by the Academy (let alone any major awards organization).

There has been major debate as to whether or not Serkis should be recognized, considering you don’t actually see him on screen. The below video should put the argument to rest, unless of course you can’t stop laughing (it’s super weird and uncomfortable). It displays Serkis sans CGI acting as the lead ape. It’s supposed to be an emotional moment when James Franco, who played Caesar’s adoptive human father Will, leaves him behind after a public incident. READ MORE

Seth Rogen’s ‘The Apocalypse’ To Be Cameo Laden

Sony Pictures is in negotiations to finance and distribute The Apocalypse, the end-of-the-world comedy that is serving as the directorial debut of Seth Rogen and longtime writing partner Evan Goldberg, says THR.

Rogen wrote the script with Goldberg. The project is inspired by a short called “Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse” that featured Rogen and Jay Baruchel playing themselves, holed up in an apartment as they dealt with the end of the world.

The project’s scope has expanded slightly from its days as a short, as Rogen and Baruchel will now be joined by James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson, all playing themselves as they are stuck in Franco’s apartment in Los Angeles facing an apocalypse. The filmmakers also are hoping to populate the movie with cameos.

A spring production start is being eyed. READ MORE

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Described as an origin story, “Apes” is set in present day San Francisco and deals with the aftermath of man’s experiments with genetic engineering that lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy. Franco will play a driven scientist who becomes a crucial figure in the war between humans and apes.

[Review] ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ Makes Same Mistakes as Remake?

I haven’t been this excited for a movie in a long time, and many reviewers on Twitter are absolutely raving about Rupert Wyatt’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the first franchise entry since Tim Burton’s 2001 remake of Planet of the Apes. Unfortunately, Bloody’s David Harley is putting the kibosh on my anticipation with a mixed review that basically calls the film “boring”.

Some fun nods to past series’ entries aside, ‘Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes‘ is a movie that uses technology instead of telling a story. The original is part of Fox’s legacy of timeless films – co-written by the master of the twist ending, Rod Serling – and they already screwed up once with Tim Burton’s gorgeous but completely forgettable remake, so it’s unfortunate that the reboot makes the same mistake. The ‘Outbreak‘ meets ‘Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes‘ plot moves along at a at a snail’s pace when there aren’t a ton of monkeys running around breaking stuff.”

You’ll find Harley’s full review at the link above. Don’t forget to return this weekend to write your own review and tell all of BD what You thought.

Fox has unloaded their sizzle reel for Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Rupert Wyatt’s prequel arriving in theaters August 5. I guess the point of dumping it online is because the film arrives in theaters in just a few weeks — but still, why can’t exclusive Comic-Con footage stay special?
