House of Horror (James Wan’s)

Revolves around a police officer (Grillo) and a psychologist (Bello) investigating the deaths of five people who were killed while trying to summon a ghost.

The film centers on the aftermath of a horrific massacre: five college students, brutally murdered inside a decrepit, abandoned home. Fresh on the scene, detective Mark Lewis and the police department’s psychologist, Dr. Elizabeth Klein (Bello), question one of the few survivors who explains they were amateur ghost-hunters, seeking out paranormal phenomenon at the abandoned house, believed to be haunted. But what started out as a harmless activity turned into something truly terrifying, and the suspect claims the responsibility doesn’t lie with any of the inhabitants, but with the house itself. The Conjuring

Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, “The Conjuring” tells the horrifying tale of how world-renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.

Incredibly Creepy International Poster For ‘The Conjuring’

I wasn’t a huge fan of Warner Bros. first poster for The Conjuring – you know, the tree with a noose. It’s relevant and all, but it in no way demands your attention.

This new UK poster, for example, screams for you to look. Not to mention it carries a very James Wan-ish atmosphere (obviously the puppet helps with that).

Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, The Conjuring tells the horrifying tale of how world-renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, respectively) were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.

Guaranteed to be the horror film of summer, it hits theaters July 19, and August 2 in the UK. READ MORE

[Interview] Producer Jason Blum Talks ‘The Purge’ At The Stanley Film Festival!

By Erik Myers:

Writer/Director James DeMonaco’s Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes-produced The Purge (formerly Vigilandia), starring Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Max Burkholder, Adelaide Kane, Edwin Hodge, Tony Oller and Rhys Wakefield, hits theaters on June 7th. The film is produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse (Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Sinister), Platinum Dunes’ partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), as well as Sébastien Kurt Lemercier (Assault on Precinct 13).

In an America wracked by crime, the government has sanctioned an annual 12-hour period in which any and all criminal activity—including murder—is legal. The police can’t be called. Hospitals suspend help. It is one night when the citizenry regulates itself without thought of punishment. On this night plagued by violence and an epidemic of crime, one family wrestles with the decision of who they will become when a stranger comes knocking.

BD Stringer Erik Myers caught up with Blum at the Stanley Film Festival a few weeks back and they discussed the themes behind The Purge as well as the film’s take on violence. They also catch up a bit on Insidious Chapter 2. Check it out below! READ MORE

Jason Blum Promises Answers In ‘Insidious Chapter 2′!

James Wan’s Insidious: Chapter 2 hits theaters via FilmDistrict on Friday, September 13th (Wan’s other summer effort, The Conjuring hits two months earlier on July 19th).

BD Stringer Erik Myers was onhand at the Stanley Film Festival in Estes Park, Colorado this past weekend and he caught up with producer Jason Blum to talk about the sequel. While they didn’t have a lot of time to chat, Blum remarked, “I saw it last week. There’s a rough cut of it, very cool. I think it does what a sequel should do. It brings back enough of the first movie so it doesn’t feel like a totally new thing, but there’s a ton of different stuff in it. And a lot of the mythology from the first movie… you’re going to get a lot of answers in the second movie. I’m looking forward to people seeing it.

Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Ty Simpkins, Barbara Hershey, Leigh Whannell, Angus Sampson, Andrew Astor, Jocelin Donahue and Danielle Bisutti all star in the sequel.

I recently spent some time on the set of the film and can’t wait to report what I saw with you. Myers also has some coverage from The Purge at the fest that we’ll be posting over the next few days.

Teaser Posters For ‘R.I.P.D.,’ ‘Oldboy’ and ‘Insidious Chapter 2′

Out of the CinemaCon starting tomorrow in Las Vegas comes teaser logo posters for a trio of upcoming genre films.

The Insidious Chapter 2 looks like the film’s first logo, only with the letter “S” forming a “2″. In theaters September 13, Oscar-nominated Barbara Hershey will play the role of Lorraine Lambert, the mother to Patrick Wilson’s Josh Lambert and the grandmother to the demon-possessed boy Dalton. Directed by James Wan, who was recently attached to the next Fast & Furious installment, the pic also stars Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Ty Simpkins, Leigh Whannell, Angus Sampson, Andrew Astor, Jocelin Donahue, and Danielle Bisutti.

I quite enjoy FilmDistrict’s Oldboy tease, which scratches out the number of days before the protag. is released from prison. In theaters October 11, the film stars Josh Bolin as an advertising executive who is kidnapped and imprisoned for 20 years without explanation. He is abruptly released and sets out to discover the who and why of his captivity, running across a social worker (Elizabeth Olsen) and an illusive man (Sharlto Copley) who allegedly holds the key to his salvation. The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson and James Ransone.

Just added is also a look at the poster for Uni’s R.I.P.D., Robert Schwentke’s troubles comic adaptation in theaters July 19. Starring Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon, Stephanie Szostak and Mary-Louise Parker, it follows a recently slain cop joins a team of undead police officers working for the Rest in Peace Department and tries to find the man who murdered him. New Trailer For ‘The Conjuring’ Packs In The Scares!!!

Every time I see something new from James Wan’s The Conjuring I’m inclined to believe that, aside from the fact that it’s probably really good, it looks like a leap forward for the director himself. It just looks so much more assured than his already impressive existing body of work. I particularly like the leap from on top of the armoir, and any use of “Hurdy Gurdy Man” puts me in the bag a little bit.

In theaters July 19, “Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, The Conjuring tells the horrifying tale of how world-renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.

It was recently revealed that the filmmakers were aiming for a PG-13 but couldn’t get it because of the intensity of the scares. Not the gore, just the creepiness. So the film will remain at its’ current R rating. Can’t wait. The film stars “Bates Motel’s” Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor, Joey King, Shanley Caswell, Haley McFarland, Mackenzie Foy, Kyla Deaver, and Sterling Jerins.

Warner Bros. has just completed its panel at the ongoing WonderCon in Anaheim, CA for The Conjuring, the latest haunter from horror master James Wan (Insidious, Saw, Dead Silence).

According to Twitter reactions, the footage went over gangbusters. But we’ve already seen the astounding trailer, so here’s a bit of news to get the hardcore horror buffs excited.

Wan told the crowd that he shot The Conjuring to be PG-13, but the MPAA said even without gore it was just too scary and it got an R, Yahoo! reports.

Starring Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor, Joey King, Shanley Caswell, Haley McFarland, Mackenzie Foy, Kyla Deaver and Sterling Jerins, Warners believes in their film so much that they’re making it a major summer release opening it on July 19.

Teaser For James Wan’s ‘The Conjuring’ Looks Like Haunted Horror Done Right! Over A Dozen Images Added!!

I’ve begin to hate haunting/possession movies recently because nothing ever happens in them except a few people bending over backwards. Big deal, lots of people have scoliosis. But director James Wan (Saw, Insidious) The Conjuring (previously The Warren Files) looks like he’s aware of those pitfalls and is sidestepping them without sacrificing character. This teaser focusses almost exclusively on Lili Taylor’s character, so I imagine we’ll be getting that features the whole ensemble soon enough.

In particular I think the blindfold scare at the beginning is particularly well done. It’s a variation on a gag we’ve seen before, for sure, but it’s pulled off with confidence and restraint and as such wrings new scares out of it. I spent some time on the set of this movie last year and look forward to sharing that report with you in the coming months.

In the film, “Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, “The Conjuring” tells the horrifying tale of how world-renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.” Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Lili Taylor and Ron Livingston star.

This movie apparently had insanely high scores from test audiences, hence the summer release date. Wan is also busy filming Insidious Chapter 2 at the moment. Head inside for the trailer and images! Clap if you want more!!! READ MORE

James Wan’s ‘House of Horror’ Finds Ghost Hunting Hottie

Cody Horn, star of End of Watch, one of my personal fav films of 2012, has signed on to star alongside Maria Bello and Frank Grillo in “The Untitled James Wan Thriller” for Dimension, says THR.

The film, formerly House of Horror, is being directed by Will Cannon and produced by Wan and Lee Clay.

Wan, director of Saw, Dead Silence, Insidious and the forthcoming The Conjuring, wrote the story that revolves around a police officer (Grillo) and a psychologist (Bello) investigating the deaths of five people who were killed while trying to summon a ghost.

Horn, who enjoyed a breakout year with star turns in Magic Mike and End of Watch, will play a ghost hunter.

The film starts shooting next week in Baton Rouge.

James Wan’s Haunted House Horror Gains One More

Excellent casting decision as Mean Creek‘s Scott Mechlowicz, pictured, has joined the cast of Dimension’s untitled James Wan Presents thriller, formerly House of Horror, starring Maria Bello and Frank Grillo.

Wan, director of Insidious, Saw, Dead Silence and the forthcoming The Conjuring, will produce with Will Canon directing.

Wan also came up with the story which revolves around a policeman and a psychologist who interrogate the lone survivor of a ghost-hunting excursion that resulted in the deaths of five people. Max La Bella penned the script.
