Ex-Metallica Bassist Jason Newsted Announces Details For Debut Full-Length Album

Ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has been hard at work with his new band Newsted. He released the Metal EP at the beginning of this year and it has been announced that Newsted will be on this year’s Gigantour alongside Megadeth, Black Label Society, Device, Hellyeah, and Death Division, which kicks off July 5th (tour dates below). Now it has been announced that the group’s debut full-length album Heavy Metal Music will be released August 6th. Below is the album cover, track list, and a stream of the first single “Heroic Dose”.

Newsted features Jason Newsted on bass and vocals as well as Staind guitarist Mike Mushok alongside guitarist Jessie Farnsworth and drummer Jesus Mendez Jr.

Commenting on Gigantour, Newsted states, “There is a chance that Mustaine and I will bust out some old Metallica that he was a part of. It has been talked about. I’m willing to throw down Phantom Lord – actually, whatever he calls out, I’m gonna throw down.” READ MORE

Newsted, the band fronted by ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted, has announced a US tour this April and May. The 14-stop tour kicks off in California and winds up in New Jersey. Newsted will be touring in support of their recently released EP Metal, which you can snag on iTunes. The full tour schedule can be seen below.

According to UTGReview, Staind guitarist Mike Mushok has become the official guitarist for Newsted, the band led by ex-Metallica/Voivod bassist Jason Newsted.

Mushok is still the guitarist for Staind, so it’s going to be interesting to see how these two projects work with each other.

Newsted Releases Video For “Soldierhead”

Ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has released an official video for “Soldierhead” from his new band Newsted. The song comes from their latest EP Metal (iTunes). The video was directed by Leon Melas in an abandoned factory in California.

In an interview with Sonic Excess, Newsted spoke about the video, stating, “It’s just a simple thing, and I just wanted to capture the band. There is no heavy concept, no literal thing about bullets chasing your head or any of those things. It’s old school metal and most likely will be black and white. It was shot in an old factory. It was a gnarly, dusty, old factory and it had energy. That is what I will describe it as.” READ MORE

Ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has released a stream of “Soldierhead”, the first single from his new band Newsted. The song comes from his upcoming EP Metal, which comes out on Jan. 8th, 2013 (pre-order on iTunes here). On May 6th, Who Cares, the musical supergroup featuring Ian Gillan (Deep Purple), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), and friends (including Jason Newsted (ex-Metallica), Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden), Linde Lindstrom (HIM), Jon Lord (Deep Purple), and many others), will release their debut digital single. The single pack will include two brand new songs entitled ‘Out Of My Mind‘ and ‘Holy Water‘. You can check out the music video for ‘Out Of My Mind‘ after the jump as well as a list of all the special guests on the two tracks.

The tracks were recorded as a means to raise funds to rebuild a music school in Armenia that was destroyed in an earthquake in 1988. Ian Gillan says, ”The idea came as Tony and I flew back from Yerevan together after being inspired by the enthusiasm of everyone there to get this thing done. It was brilliant working with Tony again after all these years; he makes life easy for a singer.”
